  1. I have a few questions about the game. Was Red River unable to put shots on net or what was the deal? I know Fargo's goalie Dan Zerhan has struggled and I believe his save percentage as posted on Bob Gillen's website is something around 85%? Unfortunatly I was unable to attend the game so I cannot testify as to how the game went and where the majority of it was being played. But unless North's goalie had an uncharacteristically good game, I find it hard to believe Red River had an abundance of quality scoring opportunities. After defeating Fargo North 3-1, I'm going to have to disagree with in that score it is apparent the difference between Red River and everyone else is that great. There have been years when teams have been crushed during the regular season, and then actually win in the first round of the EDC tournement (Shanley vs. Red River, 2004). If I'm Jay Erickson and my team is within two goals of Red River right now, I like my chances come playoff time. The reason for that is because I believe North probably has more room for improvement.

Fargo Norths goalie had 33 saves, compared to 14 for RRs Pat Arnason.

  2. Just shows how classy Minot is....Hopefully he will have his ass handed to him when they play a good team from the East. The West is so bad, and not deserving of their own thread.

Pretty classless thing of that Minot player to do, I cant say Im surprised though...Why do we have to have a seperate thread for western hockey? Isnt the ND High School Thread good enough for the rest of you?

  3. Who are you addressing in this post? I am responding to another member of this forum and elaborating how a private website works. There is no content in my post regarding your specific comments that you cite. I never said I was offended by your post. Maybe you should start reading the flow of posts and figure out what is going on. Wilbur appropriately made a comment about your disrespecful comments about Hazen and the program that Jeff Gustafson developed. If that is what you are referring to then I think most people would agree that you are insensitive and self-centered. You seem to miss the message that you have been consistently receiving from other participants in this thread.

In addition, I find no referent whatsoever in your last sentence, "If we go by what your saying we should list scores....blah, blah, blah.." I have no idea of what you are taking about. You must be mixing up participants in this thread. For future reference, you are using the word "your" when you should be saying "you are".

Even though Lives-to-play does tend to be awfully negative, we all do have to remember that this is a message board. Instead of taking everything so seriously, I think some of the people just need to laugh at things that are ment to be humorous. I dont think Lives-to-play is purposly trying to insult any individual person/people, and for somebody to bring up the fact that he is insulting Jeff Gustafson is absolutely asinine. This is not a forum to talk only about the good teams and good players in the state but rather all the teams, including the bad ones. Lives-to-play says it how he sees it, and I dont see that as a crime. It may offend some peopl, but I really dont think its meant to. Just laugh at his negativity and move on.

  4. Listened to the game and post game comments.

The score indicates a one-sided game, but DL did put up some good shots and a good fight as well. They played hard, but RR came away as the better team tonight.

Mr. Siouxmama went to the game, so I'll hear more about it when he gets home.

I was at the RR game tonight and was a little disappointed all around. Devils Lake was kind of what I expected, they had a few skilled players but lacked depth. The Riders top line was too much for DL to handle and DL didnt come up with many quality scoring chances. The Riders play was a little sloppy at times, but their top like (Meland, Crary, Vigen) had a very strong showing. I thought Pat Arnason took another step towards proving himself to all the nay-sayers. Even though he didnt have to make any spectacular saves, he looked very solid and confident all night. I look for the Riders to have a more complete effort Friday vs. North.

  5. I think it will be very funny if DL beats RR, top EDC teams just don't lose to Devils Lake. RR has proven that they are a beatable team though by squeaking through some close games against poorer teams. I can't wait to see when GPR and RR play in the beginning of January. I think GPR could very well pull out a win. Alex Gausted has already called the first goal, sniping

Arnason high glove and breaking his water bottle. The rest of GPR's offense will finish Arnason off with several more goals, finishing the route and leaving Arnason with a very burnt neck. Arnason hasn't proven anything yet playing very poor teams and I predict he will be nothing special when he goes up against decent teams.

I think you are dead wrong on that opinion. I also think Devils Lake will give Red River a better game than Grafton will. Maybe Arnason has not been tested as much some of the other goalies in the state, but in the games he has played, he has shown that he has the ability to make all the saves. He will be one of the top 3 goalies in the state come the end of the year...mark my words

RR plays DL at Purpur arena...7:30

  6. I booed both & thought Greico deserved better

I was at the game and was flat out embarassed to be a sioux fan. Not because they cant score a goal, not because they are the first team ever to be swept by Anchorago and MTU in the same season and not because of any particular player. I was embarassed to be associated with every fan in that building who booed when Lamoureux was put in the game. Whether you are booing the coach's decision or not, it comes off as though you are booing Lamoureux and that is a tasteless thing to do. Despite the beliefs of many of the idiots that go to the game Phil Lamoureux is infact human. Your job as a fan is not to question the coaches every move (he knows more than any fans could dream of), or to try to coach the players on the ice by trying to tell them what to do. They cant hear you and you are wrong 99% of the time. Besides these things, the last thing anyone should consider doing is booing your own goalie, a guy that grew up in this town and wants worse than anybody to succeed. Your job as a fan is to go to the game, and cheer on your team no matter who is playing or how well they are playing. If your going to boo anybody, it should be the opposing team. I found it ironic that of all the little kids that attend games, the most immature people in the arena are those adults that feel the need to critique players every move out loud and boo your own players. I even saw one guy dressed in full Sioux apparel stand and cheer when MTU scored their third goal on Phil. If you were one of those people, you need to seriously reconsider your motives. If you think you are doing the right thing, do us all a favor and stay at home.

  7. Diechert was one of the best goalies last year and very easily could be the best this year.

Agreed, Deichert proved last year already that he was one of the top goalies in the state and he has put together a couple great games against quality teams this year. Arnason has the ability to be one of the top goalies int he state but we will have to see how he performs against some of the top teams.

  8. Actually we are not the same person, I completely agree with you on the whole RoughRiders09 should stop posting. I know it seems odd that we talk about the same issues but i can assure you we are not the same person... Also, i do not refer to The Riders as "we". Anyway, Billy the Kid, what are your views on this season?

Its ironic that your bring that up Billy the kid, cause I was also going to comment on this stunning sequence of events. Roughriders09 starts to get ripped on because he lacks intelligence and an understanding of hockey, suddenly his 5 posts a minute are gone, but replaced by a brand new member, HockeyFan09. Strangely, HockeyFan09 has the exact same poor writing style as Roughriders09. Theres somthing fishy going on here...

  9. Is this a message board where mature adults come to talk about high school hockey or is this a place where immature high school hockey players come to degrade other players in the state? If the reason for these players quitting are because they feel they are too good for the team, I agree that is very classless. Sometimes players feel the need to quit the team for personal reasons (commitment) and in that event if they do not love or enjoying their time on the ice, I have no problem with them hanging up the skates. I am not going to come on here and bash a kid for quitting because he would rather hang out with his buddies after school instead of playing hockey. That's his choice, and if that's what he wants to do good for him. If that is not the case and these players enjoy hockey and are quitting for reasons like they feel they are too good for team, the coach, or playing time then I believe it's time for these kids to do some soul searching and realize you are not God's gift to hockey and you should probably stop acting like it.

Note: Arguments are inevitible and are half the fun of these message boards. However, if the content and language use can be kept civil it enhances the expierance that much more and makes it more enjoyable for everyone. Thanks.

I agree that these kids should quit if there was some sort of major personal problem, but i highly doubt there is. It is the outcome of them becoming frustrated with the coach and even moreso a team that that has sturggled to win. I also agree with the fact that they should not play if they are no longer having fun, but you cant tell me their whole outlook on hockey changed in the 4 weeks the season has been going. If they are no longer having fun playing hockey, I dont think they should have even started the year playing. There is a little thing called dedication, that happens to mean a lot. These are kids that I know enjoy hockey, and for them to bail out on the rest of the team because they have a problem with the coach is simply classless. Unless the coach physically hurt them, which I know he didnt, these kids should be mature enough to deal with it and play the game, if not for anyone else, for themselves.

  10. How about we never say anything about players that can't score against WF (crary). Seriously I am already sick of hearing about this kid. He can light it up against s***** teams, wow. Until he can score on someone that actually has some clout I never want to see his name again.

Your right, we should never bring Russel Crary up again. He is obviously a horrible hockey player if he went one game without a goal. I mean he only had 13 points, or somthing of that nature, in his first 4 games as a varsity hockey player. I suggest that if you never want to see his name again, you never look on this board again because I can forsee him being a highly talked about player as the year goes on.

On a different note, I had heard that Cody Mishleau had concisdered quitting but had not heard that he actually did. If this is true, you can add him to the list of classless pussies that think they are too good for the team they are on. Some of you may say im being a little harsh calling them that, but its all they deserve. I dont care how much you hate the coach or how bad your team is, when you are an upperclassman on a young team you are looked up to. What kind of message is it sending to the younger kids about the importance of dedication. These kids are not only playing for themselves, but for their school, and city...I am embarassed to say that I know both of them. I wish Coach Bina and the rest of the kids on Central who decide to stick it out the best with the rest of the season.

  11. You dont think that RR can keep up with south. The only factor in that game will be that South has a better goalie other than that south has nothing on rr. So they beat WBL big deal WBL could have played a bad game but with players like the players RR has Deichert will have a lot of shots and will need to play a vry good game. THe game will be close that is for sure but if you think RR cant keep up then you got something comming.

Alright RoughRiders09, I have read all 7 of your posts in the last two days, and as a fellow Red River fan and Red River alum, I would like to ask you to please proofread your posts before you post them. Having graduated from Red River I know that the english teachers there are well aware of what a comma is, and im fairly sure they relay the message to you in class. This would not be an issue if you forgot one every now and then, which im sure I do as well, but when you write what should be a paragraph, in one line, it gets a little confusing for readers. Although you are only a sophomore, as indicated by your name, I would like to ask you to represent the the great school of Red River a little better. Thanks...

  12. So true. All the "he sucks" comments and BS about these guys not having the talent to play are laughable. Being frustrated on how the season is going is understandable, personally ripping players is bush league.

However, as a perk to all you die hard program supporters, I have set up a meet and greet with big Joe where you can all personally tell him how you feel, face to face. I booked a small room as I don't expect many attendees.

    Amen

  13. Guess what, did I ever say that I played hockey? No, I never played hockey in my life and have never had anything like a girlfriend lost to Lammy. He just plain out can't win games for UND. Should a coach play a goalie because he's a good individual or a decent player overall? Or should the coach play the goalie who gives the team best chance to win? When has Lammy won a game for UND? How many games has he been so poor that if UND makes two mistakes it costs them the entire game. Elliott, does he give his team a chance to win every night? Hell yeah he does, Lammy doesn't help the team at all. He gives up bad goals, does not make the saves he needs to, and Hakstol said that in Friday night's post-game show. I quote Hakstol here, "He didn't make the saves he needed to make."

You are really making zero good points here. First off, unless you know "Lammy" on a personal level lets call him by his real name, Phil, or else Lamoureux. To this point maybe Lamoureux has yet to "win" a game for the Sioux, but I would not be so quick to say that he has lost a game for the team either. Your lack of hockey experience is very obvious when you are so quick to blame one person for a loss. You then bring Elliot into the conversation by saying he gives his team a chance to win every night, guess what buddy, Brian Elliot is probably the best goalie in the country and if Brian Elliot was on the Sioux Im pretty sure he would be playing. The bottom line is that right now Lamoureux is the best goalie the Sioux have. Greico was given his shot and he played a couple good games but I would not say he was any better than Lamoureux has been. Another thing to remember is, you are not their everyday in practice, coach Hakstol is and he knows which goalie gives his team the best chance to win. Even though you may disagree, I can guarantee you that Hakstol wants to win worse than anybody on this message board and he will play whichever goalie he thinks gives his team the best chance to win.

  14. So just because RR had a close game you're grouping them into the rest of the pack behind South? Don't disrespect one of the best (if not the best) team in the state that way just because they didnt blow away a team like they usually do. Cmon man we all know that Red River and South are far and away the best in the state.

I agree with soohockey15 on this one, maybe RR did have a sub-par performance in their game against West Fargo, but to say the Fargo South is in a class of their own would be going a little overboard. To say you think South is the best team in the state at this point would be more fitting, but not a league of their own. The next couple weeks should tell us a lot about how the east region will end up.

  15. Very true about Finley here, but guess what? Lammy blows all over the ice, cost two games against Wisconsin when we scored at least or above Elliott's goals-against average. Three goals Friday night, two tonight and we lose both games at home. Why? Because we played piss-poor Lamoureux who certainly can't make a save when his team needs one. He doesn't bail out our team when they make a mistake like the GOOD goalies do. Take Elliott for example, he made huge saves both games that preserved the lead last night and tonight for the Badgers sweep at the REA. We got swept by the diving Badgers for the second year in a row!!! Thanks a lot Lammy, what a waste of a talent you are! You're going to be the greatest washout to ever play goalie at the University, you're a disgrace to this program and tradition!!

Sounds like you are taking the results of a lost girlfriend of rough childhood out on somebody who is actually doing somthing with their life. Im sorry that you never made it in hockey, or that Phil always made the team over you, but to go on a rant like that is ridiculous. He knows better than anybody what he is capable of doing and I can guarantee he is working harder than you can imagine to improve every aspect of his game. In the meantime, I dont think a little support would hurt.

  16. Lamoureux is our pain-killer, he can't stop a beach ball if his life depended on it. If we keep that loser in the nets, then Hakstol is blind man walking. Lammy stays in net, our season is pissed down the drain and a complete waste!! Lee and Finley need to step up and play D with a mean streak, but they're both too lazy to do anything worthwhile. Most of all, take Lammy out of the starting position because he loses the games for us. What a waste of a talent, a scholarship wasted down the drain, a complete washout. Probably the most overrated talent to ever mind the nets at UND!!!

You have officially proved to everybody reading this board that you know absolutely nothing about the game of hockey. I didnt think it was possible for somebody to make that big of a fool of themselves in one paragraph. Congratulations, you just did it.

  17. Its upsetting to read of the possibility that Alex Simonson quit Central's hockey team. Could anybody who knows the truth about whether he did or not please shed some light for me. When I went to school at UND I got to know him a little bit playing outdoor hockey by the rink near where he lived (I think its called riverside or something like that). Back then I could tell he was going to be a special hockey player, and for a kid who was always out there playing to quit is pretty upsetting.

At least I hope he has some other options...

He definately quit but thas all I know

  18. Red River squeaked out a 3-2 victory...I have no other information on the game but I will post when I find out more. The game was in Grand Forks.

I just got a little information on the Red River game. Eric Meland scored all three goals for Red River. Red River controlled the play for most of the game with West Fargo goalie Kirby Keller making somwhere near 35 saves. Apparently both of West Fargos goals were ones that Pat Arnason would like to have back. I was told that Red River did not play a bad game but rather West Fargo surprised a lot of people there with their level of play.

  19. First off to Siouxmama... Yes I know that's the big rivalry in Fargo, I went to North and went to every single North/South game for the last like 15 years. Those games are so much fun! I know my brother appreciates me being at his games, he tells me so after them. But I am already in Grand Forks staying with friends for the games this weekend and am visiting a friend in Crookston tomorrow, or else I would totally skip the Sioux game tonight and go watch him. Also, I can't go to the games next weekend because I will be at my uncle's wedding.

Second off to knowsall... "South will put them in their (not there) place"?? Your username is obviously correct, I mean you must know everything right  I do realize that South is an awesome team, but who are you to bash a team after playing 4 games?? North may not have the greatest history of hockey (or any sport for that matter) but I think ya gotta give them somewhat of a chance. Even I don't think North's gunna win against South, we rarely ever do. But I'm still cheering for them. People give up too easily!

Anyways, have fun with whatever you all are doing later. Go Fargo North Spartans, and GO FIGHTING SIOUX!!!

Alright, If you are going to come on here and critique my spelling and grammar I'm fine with that. But when you start saying things like "ya gotta" and "gunna," right after you correct me, then it makes me laugh. Next order of business, I would'nt say I "bashed" Fargo North, I simply stated that I dont think the game will be close, but I appreciate you putting words into my mouth.

  20. You are passing up the North/South game? They consider that the big rivalry in Fargo.

You should be there for your brother. The Sioux will be here next weekend.

Dont bother going to the South vs. North game, even though it is a rivalry and North is off to a good start im pretty sure south will put them in there place pretty quickly...The Sioux game should actually be close.
