    And where did you hear that he is playing in the USHL this season? First I've heard anything about that. He's certainly not ready to contribute to a USHL team at this point.

    I've only ever seen Ambroz play once, but if his point totals are indicative of his talents, a college commitment may be a moot point. I'm sure the NTDP will offer him a position on the 2009 team, but if he's looking like a top five NHL draft pick in 2011, why would he accept? Careerwise, he'd be better off playing in the WHL for two years and getting paid for it.

    I think it mostly depends on the kid's confidence and ego. If he pictures himself in the NHL at age 18, he should probably go to the WHL. If he pictures himself in the NHL at age 20, he should probably go to the NTDP and then college. If he pictures himself in the NHL at age 19, he could go either way.

    Also, the only reason I can see why his point totals are inflated is because he's fairly physically mature already. He might not stand out as much when the other kids grow and get faster, but that's still to be seen.

    Anyway, I'm sure all the top programs are after him, so without some kind of family connection that I don't know about, SCSU is out of the running. :huh: So barring any connection to some school out east, Minnesota would have to be the defacto choice. UND, Sconnie, and Denver will probably push pretty hard though.

    2008 United States Under-18 Select Team

    UMinn recruits are represented well (Walters, Budish, Leddy).

    I thought that NTDP players were not eligible for the team but Beau Schmitz of the U17 team is on the roster and Nick Mattson is not.

    We need some 91 recruits - UMinn has got a good start.

    Schmitz is going OHL next season, so I guess he's technically not NTDP anymore.

    There's not much left for Minnesota '91s, maybe Orhn from Greenway as a BIG defenseman, but not much beyond that. That Herbert kid from Bloomington-Jefferson might start getting some looks now, but I don't think he's considered a hot commodity yet. Alex Wideman from St. Louis might be considered a feisty little scorer type in the mold of Duncan or Lasch, but I guess that's up to the coaches to determine.

    7th overall? Isn't that pretty highly drafted to make a recruiting pass on him?

    There's two tipoffs as to why he might go the college hockey route...

    1. He's a grade ahead in highschool, meaning that he'll be a senior next season.

    2. He'll be playing in the BCHL next season. Of course, that fact doesn't preclude him from playing in the WHL after he's graduated high school, but I personally think it will improve his draft stock to play a full season of college hockey before his draft year. That is, you can be a fourth liner on a good college hockey team and still get picked in the first round of the draft, but you pretty much have to be one of the top three players on your CHL team to get picked in the first round.

    One guy who is REALLY underweight and one guy who is from practically Junior B?

    Underweighters can make it (Marto) but... wait and see as far as I'm concerned.

    As for DeHaan, let's wait for his performance with Omaha. COJHL is a relatively weak conference. It's weaker than the NAHL as far as I know.

    The REALLY underweight guy went 7th overall in the WHL draft.

    Lasch was from the "practically Junior B" league.

    A HUGE recruiting victory the Sioux can pull it off and he can qualify academically.

    Morin's father says Jeremy has full-ride scholarship offers from 10 different U.S. colleges. Boston College, a school Maxwell has verbally committed to, and North Dakota are among the front-runners.

    Anybody know anything on Dylan Olsen who was/is MacWilliams teammate this year? I know I read a while back that someone was saying he was better than MacWilliam and that we should be going after him rather than MacWilliam. So does anyone know if the coaches were looking at him for 09 and/or have had any contact with him as far as committing here?

    Based on the USHL draft... I'm gonna guess Forney. But I hope he comes back!!!

    What the hell is happening there?!

    EDIT: Nevermind, if I had only played three games the previous season, I'd probably move on as well. SCSU has a habit of picking up leftovers (Coole, Kronick, Borgen, Hepp, Ryan). I wonder if he'll be next?

    I think it was 12 players that went on to play DI hockey from that Jefferson team.

    Thanks. Basically, my point about Oliver is that it's easy to write him off as the fifth or sixth best player on that team, but what if the team if chalk full of future stars? Oliver is behind only Landman in returning scorers for next season. Will people be eating their words if Roseau returns to state and Oliver is their leading scorer?

    Landman, a junior, has yet to make a college commitment. He's drawn interest from just a couple of Division 1 schools; perhaps Thursday's performance will spark more. "My doors are open to anybody, really," Landman said.

    As for Oliver, I think he wasn't the stud SCSU was hoping for, but he's no where near a flop. He's well built, very athletic, and a non-stop worker. He might not come in until 2010, but he should still be fine. Also, he was the Roseau/SCSU link that the Huskies needed to land Lee!!

    Does anybody know how many D1 stars/NHL players were on that dominant Bloomington Jefferson team from the early '90s? I think we might be seeing something like that again with this Rams team.

    I think the REA will easily sell out at regular ticket prices. If the DECC is the only other option, it's no contest. They could probably convert the Mariucci, but it's not really that much better of an option to begin with.

    Maybe they could play on the practice rink at the NHC. According to Craig Dahl, it "feels smaller".

    If Lapic is the committed recruit as some people believe, I suspect that we will hear this week since his season is over. How about he commits and brings a friend...

    The buzz on gopherpucklive is that the team Lapic is favoring right now isn't known for getting the obvious high-end players. North Dakota certainly does NOT fit that description. IF it's a WCHA school, it's probably going to be MSUM, SCSU, MTU, or UMD. Mankato isn't very far from New Prague and they don't have any fowards lined up for '09 either.

    I wouldn't mind him for SCSU either. Honestly, I think Lapic would be alright, but the "in" with his freshman teamate would be a nice bonus too. Ambroz would be an incredible longshot for SCSU, but without Lapic, they're not even in the game. Ambroz's sister (Kacy) is committed to UMD. His older brother Matt plays for UNO.

    Who do you have as the best uncommitted Pitlick?

    That's what I'm thinking, yeah. Who knows how they'll each do after high school though. The NTDP thought enough of Pitlick to take him to an international tournament. He didn't do that great, but I have to go with their opinions over my guesses.

    I meant second best UNCOMMITED, but he still compares pretty favorably with the committed ones too.

    BTW, Mattson (and Landman) are 1990's. Lapic is a 1991 (along with Budish, Pitlick, Leddy, Birkholz, Oliver, Schmidt, and Walters).

    There may be a commitment here shortly.

    A little detective work should make it clear who has just committed. A nice pickup. He's probably the second best of "that birthyear" from "that league" remaining. He probably won't win ROTY the first year he plays for the Sioux, but he should be a solid four year playmaker.

    Don't fear, IF St. Croix plays college, it'll be for UND. Morbeck's praises have already been sung on The Scouting News. I like your strategy of aiming for his brother though. Any team that needs a goalie in the near future should seriously consider "Corndog".

    The Notre Dame Hounds midget team specializes in developing the young talent. Essentially, they are primarily bantam players "playing up" in the midget major league. The SMAAAHL league as a whole is a feeder for CHL teams and the SJHL. And while the SJHL isn't bad, it's not quite on par with the likes of the BCHL. So yes, keep your eyes on the NDH midget team for potential prodigies, but realize that they're likely CHL targets unless they've verbally expressed interest in colleges (ala Schwartz and Gormley).
