Its based on the expectation that for once Idalski might actually beat preseason expectations, not necessarily a national championship.

Its easy to replace Idalski with some one better. That wouldn't be a problem.

The twins didn't come to UND because of Idalski. They came because they wanted to help build their home towns womens hockey teams program.

The UND womens hockey coach situation is the reason they chose Minnesota over UND to start their college careers.

Wrong!  They committed to Minnesota because UNDs coach during the time they were recruited was auwful.  Once she was gone, the twins decided it was time to come home.

Its obvious you and 83 have a huge inferiority complex with the hockey programs.  My comment about dropping basketball was purely tongue-in-cheek bait that you took big time.

A serious question I do have however is.........

Do the basketball programs run in the black or red at UND?

Bottom line is UND will never drop Women's Hockey for one reason and one reason only:  Title IX.  And that sucks.

UND has too many sports and WH is one that eats up a ton of money for very, very little return.

How about we drop women's hockey once we drop men's basketball.  Women's hockey is more competitive.  When was the last time the basketball team made the NCAA tourney (D2 or D1)?

Maybe the best solution is to keep it simple, don't try to have too much detail on the logo, try to go to aggressive or too cartoony silly. What made the Fighting Sioux logo work was that the Sioux warrior had a facial expression that was stern and determined but not over the top aggressive and certainly not cartoon. Hopefully that aspect will not be  lost on the firms working on designing the new Logo.

I just threw up in my mouth a little bit!  I am starting to come to peace with the whole move on thing, but if  a logo like one of these is selected it will throw my mental state back into state of flux.  If we spend a pile of $'s on design and end up with a logo like this I will be pissed!

Honestly, a fourth line of LJ between JJ and Wilkie might be lethal!

    1.  CBS

    2.  Chyz with Gersich and Pogo

    3.  Gardner, St Claire and Simo

    4.  LJ with Wilkie and JJ

I like that.  No Sanderson, no Olson.  I hate the lazy hooking, tripping, interference penalties LJ takes when he doesn't move his feet and gets beat on a play.  It's at a minimum once a series!  So with that said, I would interchange Olson and Sanderson with LJ when needed. The one thing about LJ, just when you don't expect it, he will score a big goal.  Goalies have trouble handling his heavy shot which lead to bad angle goals and rebound opportunities.

  5. Why do threads always get hijacked into a "football vs hockey" debacle?  Sorry to break the news but, hockey is the most popular sport on campus and therefore gets more exposure to promote things like this.  Doesn't hurt that at the hockey games "Sioux Forever" chants are louder than ever, not to mention the new nickname getting booed rigorously.

Give it a break with the inferiority complex!

  6. If potential recruits are at a game and experience this it won't  likely be seen as something positive by them.

I'm sure that if there were recruits in this weekend they thought the atmosphere in the Ralph was nothing short of awesome.  I don't think you could be any further off on your assessment!

  7. Fun game tonight.  The boys really dominated for the majority of the game and the score could have been even more lopsided then the scoreboard read.

The booing after every time "Fighting Hawks" was used was classic.  My guess this will last from the Student section for some time.  It is ironic based on the notion that the students were mostly responsible for voting for the name, but I think they just picked the best of a piss poor final list of names. If Roughriders would have won, they would have booed just the same, maybe more.  Also another bit of irony was the first time "Fighting Hawks at full strength" was announced, the puck found the back of the net.  It was only the second time of the evening it was stated as Darren Looker slipped it in there casually at the beginning of the game.  The irony was that he said "Fighting Hawks at full strength" and they immediately scored.  It seemed like it caught the players off guard in a moment that was like, "what the hell did he just say?  Crap they just scored."  I think it caught the crowd a little off guard as well because after that moment, every time FH was used, the booing got a little louder.

I will be interested on how the powers to be will react to this warm welcome the new nickname received tonight.  My guess if this type of reaction continues, they will double down and instruct Mr. Looker to use FH for everything.

  8. Naturally, I hope our guys make it. They are playing their best football of the year and I hope that counts for something.

I am wondering if the conference is nationally viewed positively enough to warrant 4 teams. That is a big issue I think.

But, I also like to "follow the money" and if UND really has tossed a hefty bid out there, that should impress the committee.

Whatever the result, the truth is this team needed to hold a 4th quarter lead in one of two games and it would be out of the committee's hands. That said, Bubba Ball is working and IF this staff has another recruiting class as good as this one appears to be, the program is going to contend for titles.

And not just Big Sky titles!

If they don't get in this will be the main reason.  No blame needs to be placed anywhere else.
