  1. Anyone have an idea on who the legal group is that is representing UND in its appeals against the NCAA? Also, is there any behind the scenes help being provided by the Engelstad family as it pertains to their late Father's wishes as they pertain to the Sioux name? Lastly, I'm giving it a 1 in 100 chance that the NCAA will reverse its committee's ruling on the UND appeals...any other predictions???

  2. SiouxTupa,

Got my prints and man do they look good! I especially like the part where your Dad signs the print and the numbering as well. The prints are currently being framed and expect to have it hanging in my office by April 22nd..I'll send a picture when it happens...

    Thanks Again!

  3. The problem is that the NCAA should have no right to tell a state run school whawt they can or cannot be named. I want to know more then anything, why are North Dakota's Senators and Congressman not throwing a fit and challenging the NCAA to change this. Bring a formal complaint against them on the record and in a public forum like congress. They need to state that the NCAA is over stepping their authority and that UND can benamed what ever they want to be named. I want to hear Dorgan, Conrad(I forget the other guys names.) speak up and speak loudly.

Just a thought, can not wait till thrusday.

Its tough for someone like Conrad, Dorgan, and Pomeroy, who all end up taking alot of Casino Money from the tribes, to formally speak out against them in the US Congress. They are politicians and thus they gave their concerns about the name in the newspapers, but little else...Maybe we should start a letter writing campaign to the congressional delegation from ND to support the name and start to question the NCAAs internal financial practices in general.

  4. To start with, I am not looking for a diatribe from GrahamKracker....Basically, I want to know if any new information has come from the relationship building actions taken by UND with the ND Sioux Tribes? Any information would be appreciated...

  5. I agree with that. I think one big question is about tradition and if or how it will change. Part of UND athletics is being successfull nationally in many programs. This is simply why I am still on the fence (although if asked to vote in polls, I vote yes). Is it more prestegious to content for national titles in division II (I'm talking many sports and athletes) or celebarate conference titles and national tournament appearances. The more and more DII becomes watered down more appealing it becomes to be DI

Its not that I don't share the same worries, but I think the concern with a watered down DII level is greatly exagerated. For instance, do you want to go into DIAA and be a nobody or have an opportunity to compete for championships in your division. Also, look what the move to DIAA has done for NDSU...How many kids from ND or Minnesota do you see on the teams - remember when it was fun to identify the basketball players on both teams as being from Minnesota or North Dakota...Now the tradition is bringing in JUCO transfers who end up playing for two seasons before they are let go for academic reasons. I think our strength is in the traditions we have followed in the past and not the opportunity to beat the Wisconsin men's basketball team on a single night when so many will soon forget it.....I'd rather have our names etched on a trophy or logged into the record books with pride instead of disbelief.

  6. I get frusatrated that current and former Sioux athletes don't seem to have much of a voice in this debate. I think their opinions and feelings on the issue are important, too. They gave their blood, sweat and tears to compete under the Fighting Sioux banner. That should be taken into account.

GrahamKracker isn't the only one who's posted here supporting the name change. The reason he was banned is given here. If people were banned simply for having nothing intelligent to say, it'd be pretty quiet on this board.

I've always wanted to know why former athelete's haven't spoken up as well on the name issue...Is it because the press won't cover it or because its not as popular as having small groups of Native American's and the Liberal Arts Department from UND picket a game? I truly think their viewpoint would add more dimensions to the discussion rather than the current path of deciding whose insulted or not.

  7. Here's a link to UI's appeal. It's in Adobe Acrobat (PDF) format.

Any new information on the interactions/outcomes from the Tribal leaders and UND meetings back in December? If anything is key to us keeping the nickname with the NCAA determining the status, I think its the Spirit Lake Nation doing a re-affirmation of their stance from 2000. What say you?

  8. I'll give him a call today (Tue), and hopefully figure out where the prints are. I'm pretty sure we have some somewhere. I'll PM you when I know.

    SiouxTupa,

I will be mailing the checks to you today and I want two of the posters if possible.

    Thanks,

How do you want to do the transaction? Do I send you an e-mail address and work out the money side and shipping...Please advise...BobIwabuchiFan

  10. Iwabuchi...I was in Junior HS, maybe HS at the time he played for UND. As I remember he was very agressive in going FAR out of the net. He is one of my favorite all time players. Any idea where he is today, or what he did after UND?

    batting 500

I googled him and found a Bob Iwabuchi working as a hockey coach in Edmonton Alberta...Not sure if its him, but it has a phone #.

  11. Bob Joyce is holding #5, Hrkac is next to him w/o helmet. There is the mob group in the background, and in the right lower corner there is a circle with the 5 championship rings in it.

Sounds like the real deal...Is there anyway to get reproduction prints of this poster from your father? I would be very interested in this if possible...

  12. My father is the artist who painted that. I have one hanging in front of me now. I can sure inquire, if you are looking for one.

    Let me know! ;)

That would be great! I believe it was a poster that was published from the painting your father made...Any chance to send a digital picture of the painting so I can confirm?

  13. I'm looking for a copy or framed version of the 1987 team poster that was a painted representation of the best College Ice Hockey team of all time....I've seen a few in GF, but always forgot to get information on the artist or the publisher...Any help would be appreciated.

    Loyal Fighting Sioux Fan!
