  1. I think I see what you are asking...Is it more beneficial for the NCAA to have UND and MN play in the regionals at Grand Forks or potentially in the Frozen Four right?

By looking at the PWR rankings, with MN being #1 they are basically automatically placed as close to home as possible for them, giving them what home-ice advantage they could have. The NCAA already gets a good-size chunk of the revenue from UND/REA for hosting the event(i.e. Ticket Sales), so it doesn't really effect the NCAA so much in terms of revenue I don't believe. They want whats best for the regional sites, since the Frozen Four you can almost bank on everybody with a ticket showing up regardless of what teams are there. Where as at the Regional sites, if you don't have 4 teams from the area, attendance will be lacking which will affect the NCAA revenue more than anything.

Exactly. But, is it really "home ice advantage" for UMN if they have to play us on our turf? Depends on who you ask. I bet if you asked MN, they would much rather play anyone out East AT out East than us in GF. WI has already peaked this year. MN is peaking right now. I think it may be someone else's turn to peak come 4-5 weeks from now...... :D

  2. hey ATLsioux, now you are touching a nerve being a home town bemidji boy :D

AZSIOUX, Bemidji was featured on the front page of the Wall Street Journal last week (pretty cool, even a picture of them on the cover) for the whole curling thing....if you want to give me your email address, I can email to you the nice color PDF of the WSJ front page (which would be pretty cool for everyone in the town to have and post around town/frame; much better than trying to hold on to a newsprint that deteriorates)

  3. hey rook, why dont you chill out and relax, wow....if some of us knew thew answers then we would probably answer them right away for you. getting a little chippy with the "ILL FLY ACROSS THE COUNTRY AND DRAW A DIAGRAM" :D:D way to ask nicely....

i guess i would be like that as well if i lived in the ATL

seriously, hope you get your questions answered soon..

    Guys,

Easy on the ATL.....are you implying there's something wrong with driving around 5mph on 10 lane interstate highways in bumper to bumper traffic with 28" spinners on "my feet"?.......that shutting down a city when it snows .01 inches is not the right thing to do?.........but please do remember, I have the benefit of watching one of the top 3 creative players in the world (Kovalchuk) play, while playing 18 holes on the same day......... :wink.gif

  4. So if we lose tonight are we behind them in the pwr rankings and drop back down to 16 or around there?

Why can't Bemidji get their heads out of the sand and help us out a little? It's seems as if all they are worried about is getting the game over with so they can focus on ice fishing and shopping at Pamida.

  5. If UND makes the tourney, it will be as a #3 seed. The way all the comparisons would shake out in the end, I think it will be very hard for UND to finish 13 or 14 (which would be a #4 seed). Like I said, if they make the tourney, they will make it as at least a #3 seed. I've sat and analyzed the Pairwise and various scenarios and it's very hard to come up with a scenario that would play out where UND would finish #13 or #14 overall. They are either out of the tourney or in at least as a #3 seed (or #2 if they get hot the last couple weeks).

This could be seen by the last few weeks and looking at the Pairwise. After some Friday nights, UND has ended up as a #3 seed and then after Saturday night, the Sioux would be out of the tourney. Over the past few weeks, UND has not been a #4 seed in any projected bracket using the bonus. It's always been #3 or out of the tourney. From what I can tell, the same will hold true come the end of the season.

#3 seed, #4 seed, whatever......that's not the point. The point is that when we get in at GF, what will/can/should/could the NCAA do about having MN in the same regional. My point is (and of course this is all based on big assumptions that we/MN even win), is it more beneficial to have UND-MN face each other in a regional final or in the Frozen Four? And, does the NCAA even have any subjective power to do anything about it. UND-MN games are huge for ratings/revenue etc, but how/when/where would that possible matchup best benefit the NCAA? I am not referring to any first round matchups. If I need to book a flight across the country to tell someone this face to face with the help of a diagram, please let me know.

  6. We all take pleasure in what happened to Pauk last night.

However, this only gives Denver more motivation for tonights game and puts us closer to accurately being labeled by others as "cheap" and "dirty". Why would we want this as an outcome ? Let others carry the torch for this kind of stuff. I we condone it - we are no better than anyone else we accuse.

So what exactly will happen if we are labeled cheap and dirty? Is the WCHA gonna take away our birthdays? There are two teams in the WCHA that are not labeled by others as cheap and/or dirty: Alaska and Michigan Tech. And that's because they are not perennial threats. I was at the game at the X and actually saw Bina get hit while most were too busy stuffing their faces with footlongs and nachos and trying to dance along with the dork on the jumbotron, and I have nothing but respect for anyone on our team that goes after anyone on Denver's team. And the people from WI and MN share the same respect (but just don't go after their players).

  7. I think it goes something like this:

Right now the Sioux are losing a number of comparisons due to the TUC category. If they were to sweep Denver it would add two wins to the TUC, this definitely helps, at least short-term. Next week they play Mich Tech so these games cannot help us in the TUC.

A sweep of Denver and Tech would likely move the Sioux to 4th place, possibly even 3rd.

If they end up third there is no chance they play a TUC in the first round so they can't help their TUC record.

Not only that but it eliminates one more game in the WCHA tourney that could help the TUC record.

If they end up fourth they would probably play Mankato, they are not a TUC today but could be after the Wisconsin series this w/e. Mankato does not play next w/e. If Mankato is a TUC after playing Wisconsin, this would help UND by adding two earlier wins to their TUC total. But if the Sioux sweep them in the first round they might drop back out of being a TUC, thus again providing no help for the TUC comparisons.

As strange as it sounds, it may be possible that a split with Denver and a sweep of Tech may prove better then a sweep of both. A split with Denver and sweep of Tech will probably leave the Sioux in 5th place with a chance to play a TUC in the first round. A sweep of the first round would then give them a 3-1 record against TUC recently (Denver 1-1, 1st round WCHA 2-0). Since UND's current TUC record is sub-500, a 3-1 record may help more than a 2-0 record being added to TUC. You also probably get the play-in game in the final-five which is more winnable than the semi-final game, probably against Wisconsin.

The rule for tournament games is that is won't hurt your RPI if you win, it can definitely hurt your pairwise.

I will take my chances with going 4-0 to end the reg. season. If they do that they should flip the DU comparison and the Northern Mich. comparison. They will also improve their RPI enough to flip some other ones they are narrowly losing today based on RPI (such as Michigan and Maine, depending on how they do).

There are so many close pairwise comparisons right now that they just need to win and see how it shakes out. Right now I think an improved RPI will help just as much as improving the TUC. They need to maintain the comparisons that they have won and add enough to get in the top 12 to be safe. I think going 4-0, then sweeping the first round would be good enough to get in.

Rochsioux: Thank you for the well-thought out assessment. Finally a forum topic response with some insight, and with a conclusion that does not end with "Let's see how it all plays out, keep your game faces on boys".

Can't wait to head up to MPLS to the X this year, knowing that every game played that weekend will be critical.

  8. Not if the Sioux are a #4 seed...

Someone explain to me why when we get the #4 seed (which we will, quit wasting your time discussing it on a Friday night), MN will be shipped elsewhere:

    1. Is there an objective rule that would deem it necessary; or

    2. Do the pros outweigh the cons for the NCAA to make a subjective call to split UND and MN (GF revenue vs. overall tourney revenue, etc.).

  9. I loved Prp's little reminder to Pauky, just to let him know that the Sioux remember what he did. Paukovich has to be skating lightly out there knowing things like that can happen(and should) more to him. I would never encourage something that would seriously injure a player, but I highly promote little "love taps" against the Paukovich's of the world. He has to have his head on a swivel when Prp's on the ice with him. :D Prp picked the perfect time, which as stated earlier, isn't always the case.

What's a love tap? Dude, you can't have it both ways. The Sioux need to keep Pauk's head on a swivel, and let's admit there's risk to that; he could get hurt, but anybody could get hurt. You sound like a stock analyst that says he highly recommends a certain stock, but then caveats it with a buttload of risks and issues, effectively saying "don't blame my recommendation if the stock tanks though". You can't have reward (scaring Pauk), without risk (possible injury). Face it.

  10. What's all this stupid smack about getting the wins and then getting a hit on Paukovich at the end of the Saturday game? First of all, its a dumb strategy that takes the Sioux's focus off of playing a good series......secondly, its putting the cart before the horse.........The right strategy is to send someone, anyone, after Paukovich immediately at the start tonight (preferably taking him out of the game).....then the Sioux will immediately have the frustration monkey off their back and it will cause Denver to lose focus (helping the Sioux for the weekend).......If Bina was my teammate, I couldn't concentrate on only the game until I knew Paukovich had paid the price.

This is a perfect time against a perfect team to take a few hitting from behind game misconducts, especially the way Denver turns their backs......who cares if one of our guys gets kicked out for a game......as long as he takes Paukovich out with him, the emotional charge to the rest of the team will be all we need to sweep.
