  1. On the Herald site one poster recommended the new name be "Sundogs" which is a cold weather phenomenon and would be a completely unique name with an interesting opportunity to create a cool logo.

FYI, the Arizona Sundogs are proudly sponsored this year by the Yavapai-Apache Cliff Castle Casino. The Sundogs will be skating over, slamming into, wearing and who knows what else to the sponsor's logo--all to the delight of the Yavapai-Apache casino.

  2. As long as I'm on a roll, I'll opine that a nickname is defined as "a familiar or shorter form of a proper name." As such, I think "UND" and "North Dakota" would each qualify as a nickname to the official name of the University of North Dakota.

I love the Fighting Sioux name but I think that we can't get away with simply no nickname so what do you guys think of this name/logo idea?

Been there, done that. Very quickly everyone will stop saying "sundogs" and will just call your team the "dogs" and you'll have a dog mascot. PETA protests soon to follow! :D

  4. Yeah, Like the Miami Hurricanes! What a riot!

Sun dogs is pretty lame, though, IMHO. It smacks of some contrived minor league hockey team novelty gimmick!

I would be offended if I didn't agree with you!

  5. I've stood outside the Ralph a lot. Does that make me close to the program? I would like a real source before I believe this.

Geographically, I'm closer to the Coyotes program than any of you and I haven't heard anything.

  6. Would Fighting Sioux vs Fighting Irish get some discussion going in the media about the inequity of how the NCAA has two standards as to what is hostile and abusive?

I think a Fighting Sioux v. Fighting Irish matchup would highlight the abitrary and illogical position of the NCAA. At the very least, ESPN should get someone from the NCAA on the air to explain why one nickname is acceptable and the other is not. No matter how polished an answer the NCAA provides, I think that most people would see the distinction as absurd. You can polish a turd as much as you want, but in the end, it's still a turd.

  7. No, unless it was undocumented and worn for a special game, but considering it isn't much different than the jerseys worn during that time period, I don't have any reason to believe it would have been a special one-game type jersey or an alternate. It was just a replica style jersey that was sold at the time that they decided to use for the occasion I do believe.

I was sitting about twenty five feet away when Reagan was presented with that jersey. I asked the secret service guy sitting next to me if he though Reagan would ever wear it. I got no response. Come to think of it, I pretty sure it was that guy sitting next to me was the same guy in the Matrix movie.
