  1. Long time family friend. Where is Oz originally from?

UND has a pretty full plate of recruits. So im guessing if there is any to committ It will be a young one or depth player like Davidson. But I know we had 1 coach in Fargo, 1 in the cities and 1 in New York over the weekend, so I know theyre looking!

Burnsville - dad Tom coached HS hockey there for many years.

  2. North Dakota senior Matt Frattin is College Hockey News' 2011 Player of the Year

  3. Just 8800 for hockey?? And you are going to throw UND, with the best traveling fan base not playing in the own backyard, and Notre Dame plus UMD there. Place will be packed and the Scottrade Center will sit empty.

Michigan and DU have no following. I was in Denver a few years back for the West regional and the Michigan "faithful" were few and far between. UNO would bring in a few, but overall the St. Louis attendence would be awful.

Kohl Center was not full in 08 for UND v Wisco Regional final

  4. Agree, but I haven't verified the math, and I am too busy to do so. It doesn't pass my initial sniff test.

UMTC leapfrogs WMU and CC - TUC records change enough for UMTC to flip some comparisons.

  5. So all the Gophers have to do is get to the Final Five and then have the favorites win in the other tournament games and they are in? That doesn't seem right...if the favorites win, then UMD beats UMN on the Thursday night game.

    the math doesnt lie

  6. We don't need objectivity, this is a Fighting Sioux hockey board... I am not sure what you want? If you want to talk about the Goofs go to Gopher Puck Live.

Looks like C-Piss is just as delusional as you are. C-Piss still thinks the Golden Rodents are going to the NCAA tourney.

Actually, someone on USCHO board has done the math - if all the higher seeds win for the rest of the season, this is your final PWR

  7. I took it to mean that there won't be re-seeding after the Thursday games. In other words, the winner of the 4/5 game will play the #2 seed, and the winner of the 3/6 game will play the #1 seed, regardless of who wins that game. If this is the case, then they could look at where Minnesota is seeded after the first round and make sure they get the night games. For example, Minnesota gets the #5 seed, they could set up the 4/5 game for Thursday night and then set up the 1 vs. 4/5 winner for Friday night.

Again, I don't know for sure, but this is my suspicion of how it will go down.

It also doesn't say specifically what "play-in" games are afternoon/evening on Thur. They have left that open-ended.

Schlossman and/or Dave need to come to the rescue.

  8. So I am reading USCHO's most current bracketology and the first thing that jumps out to me is the fact that if the season were to end today, BC would be playing in Manchester (again). I understand one-seeds should be rewarded with as close to home ice as possible. Here is the most updated version

    West Regional (St. Louis):

    13 Miami vs. 4 Denver

    12 Dartmouth vs. 5 Merrimack

    Midwest Regional (Green Bay):

14 Rensselaer vs. 2 North Dakota

    10 Michigan vs. 8 Nebraska-Omaha

    East Regional (Bridgeport):

    16 RIT vs. 1 Yale

9 Notre Dame vs. 7 Union

    Northeast Regional (Manchester):

15 Wisconsin vs. 3 Boston College

    11 New Hampshire vs. 6 Minnesota-Duluth

Upon further review, BC's good fortunes with home ice in the NCAA tournament is disgusting. (Most likely due to the fact that I am bitter towards BC (as are most of you) because they seem to break my heart every year)

    2010: Worcester

    2008: Worcester

    2007: Manchester

    2006: Worcester

    2005: Worcester

    2004: Manchester

Enough of my BC complaining, what are everyone's (incredibly pre-mature) thoughts on the potential bracket?

They may have been a #1 seed quite often - that usually helps you stay close to home.

  9. Moys' Bracketology is up on USCHO.com. Very odd brackets this week. Has UND in Green Bay playing Renssilaer with Michigan vs. UNO. WI and UMD are in Manchester with BC and Denver is in St. Louis. From an attendence perspective, this is about as poor of brackets imaginable. WI not in Green Bay? Who is going to go watch in St. Louis?

I heard from a credible source close to the UND hockey program last week that he would totally shocked if UND was NOT sent to St. Louis. UND would be the biggest draw there period and attendance is going to be poor even with UND there. Have WI not play in Green Bay makes no sense. Ship Denver anywhere...their 100 fans would have to fly regardless.

First time in a while I've seen Moy's brackets and just scratched my head.

Moy must assume that attendance is not king - that you can't ignore bracket integrity and ship Wisco to Green Bay, no matter the Pairwise.

A #1 seed shouldn't be placed in Regional where they have to play an defacto road game against a 4 seed that is not an official host.

I agree with Moy that attendance will be a factor, but not the main factor, in determining pairings.

It could all be moot if Bucky keeps playing like it did last weekend - and no - the "committee" will not find a way to get Wisco in the tournament no matter what so it can play in Green Bay.

I hope we all have been educated enough to know that there is no wiggle in the criteria that determines the 16 teams in the tournament.

  10. Yeah, I saw that too. He's not wrong in the facts, UND did drop two spots, but it's not really as important as you might think just reading that post. As I mentioned in the weekend prediction, UND's comparison wins over Denver and BC were hanging by a thread; they temporarily flipped due to this minor move, but the outcome at the end of the weekend will still be determined by those teams' own performances. If BC and Denver win, they'll hold onto those comparisons (which they would've taken whether Robert Morris won or lost). If BC and Denver lose, those comparisons will flip back to UND.

Come Monday, whether Robert Morris won or lost won't have had any direct effect on UND's ranking. In the long run, there are currently at least 4 teams within .01 of .500 in RPI who UND has a winning record against (Alaska, St. Cloud, Bemidji, Robert Morris) -- how many of those end up above and below the TUC line will have a small impact. (AA will also be in that camp if UND emerges with a winning record vs. them).

    Great work as always.

We all must remember that the only PWR that matters is the last one.

  11. Well, as long as Yale is #1 overall, that will lockup one of those two eastern regionals. I'd say chances are pretty good UND doesn't go farther than Green Bay or St. Louis. If Duluth stays ahead of us in the PWR, they'll get Green Bay for sure, though, which is disappointing.

NH is possibility as well - if Yale stays #1, NH could not be seeded 8/9, since both Yale and NH are hosts.

  12. Dell needs to start on Friday night and the team can evaluate Saturday after that. Keep getting him the game reps he needs to get him ready for the gopher series, but don't over do it with his work load by any means. I think Hakstol has kind of hinted that Eids will get a start with his mentioning of how hard Brad has worked in practice (In coach speak, thats giving us all a reason for him to be in the net on Saturday).

Hard work in practice is great - can he stop the puck/stay in the net?

Dell is much more fundamentally sound than Eids
