  1. ^ My thoughts too. After watching this tournament I really liked the chl style of play.

Remember, your watching the best CHL teams play in a playoff setting.

Don't compare it to a regular season AA vs MSM game or USHL game.

  2. It changed a few years ago, not sure of the exact date. I've always had a feeling it had something to do with how the goofers were treated at the Ralph after the Holy Cross upset. They probably cried to the NCAA that the Ralph played music to loudly.

    Better replay

  3. FYI - Minn Leg. approval of new Vikings stadium also clears the way for major improvements to Target Center, funded by city and the TWolves (law lets city to use sales tax revenue to fund improvements, which was previously prohibited).

  4. Fellas;

We (fans) need to act like the big time program we are.

We recruit the best players in NA eligible to play college hockey. Some of our recruits are so good, they are also coveted by the CHL, "supposedly" the best development league in the world.

Some of these players choose the CHL, some choose UND. Be impressed that we are in the mix when the best talent in the world for their age (ex. SJ) is deciding where best to continue his/their hockey development.

We run with the big dogs - we can't/won't get them all.

We will get the players that are comfortable with the college environment and realize they will train/develop at a world class facility with world class coaches behind the bench - and not be concerned primarily about their draft status/getting CHL exposure.

We don't need that type here anyway.

  5. I would end the practice of individual schools hosting regionals, but let the conferences act as hosts, with the top seeded team from the conference placed in that regional. It would be easier then to keep bracket integrity and make it less common that seeds 8-16 get placed at home automatically.

If true this year here is the bracket

    BC v AF

    UMTC v BU

    UND v WMU*

    Miami v Mass Lowell

    Mich v Cornell*

    UMD v Maine

    Union v Mich St*

    Ferris v Den

*changes made to avoid 1st round conf matchups.

  6. Haven't seen this anywhere else.

With graduates/departures the 11/12 team had 128 goals leave the team from 10/11.

If Kristo stays, the 11/12 team will lose 7 goals - if Kristo goes, 26 goals.

    Note: Goals scored in 10/11 = 177; 11/12=135

  7. Glad someone finally mentioned this. Nelson was a center his whole life until this year and it wouldn't surprise me to see him centering the second line next year. He was put on wing this year due to us trying to find one dominant line. But it looks like we could have an abundance of centers on next years roster with Knight, Nelson, Rowney, Grimaldi, O'Donnel. Not a bad problem to have though.

With 28 goals playing wing, I don't think the staff would tempt fate and move Nelson back to center unless there was an emergency.

  8. Really kind of hard to like or dislike them from this picture. I don't hate them, though.

Jersey design similar to Hockey Canada with an extra stripe

    cropped-392teamcanada_jerseys.jpg

Without a logo to use I wasn't surprised to see North/#/Dakota on the front.

It's over - now just win, baby.

  9. Weigh that against the game-day distraction.

I'd rather get ahead of it and have it be secondary on game-day.

    DITTO!

Only reason I could see would be to stop copycats from showing up Sat.

  10. All in all - it was a great night.

Historic for many reasons - one is it could be the last Fighting Sioux/Gopher game, of any sport.

It it is, what a way close it out.

I know UND will play UMTC again - it just won't be the same.

  11. Can't we just all agree that the Minnesota block "M" is the best logo on the front of any hockey jersey in the world? :)

It's clean, sharp, and you can tell excatly what it is from the last row of the upper deck.

They should go back to the 70's era look - with the Flyers style arm striping. I'm surprised they have never brought that back for a retro/3rd jersey.

The 'M" was bigger then, only one outline color vs. 2 outline colors now.

Alas, the team was better then, too.

  12. I have a question: Is there a scenario where UMD, UM, UND, DU are all 2 or 3 seeds? If that is the case does that mean they all must be placed in different regions?

Best chance for that to happen is for BU and Miami to win their tournaments and Denver or ND winning the WCHA.

    http://blog.siouxsports.com/2012/03/15/thursday-night-pwr-possibilties-update-sioux-seem-a-lock-for-ncaas/

BC is a lock and Mich is almost a lock for #1 seed - if BU and Miami win 2 they are both %90 for #1 seeds.

If you don't want a trip out east, root for BC and Mich.

  13. I think one of the biggest reasons for the NHL going to dark home jerseys was for the same reason I mentioned above. The home crowd fans never got to see the alternate jerseys if they were dark alternates (which are easier to make than a second home jersey). So, to increase marketing for home games and merchandise, the league switched. Now, the fans got to go have the opportunity to see them play in multiple dark uniforms and that leads to more interest in owning an alternate jersey opposed to when the fans could never go see them in it unless they made a long road trip.

NHL should go back to white at home - I am tired of seeing the road whites of every team - we miss out seeing some classic dark unis (Hawks/Wings Reds, Rangers/Leafs Blues).

Home could wear dark on occasion to show off alternates.

  14. RE: CHL vs College - I thought these stats were interesting

    2009-10 - Minnesota State - 38 GP - 11 G - 8 A - 19 Pts - 27 PIM

    2010-11 - Medicine Hat - 56 GP - 27 G - 35 A - 62 Pts - 31 PIM

    2011-12 - OKC/AHL - 47 GP - 6 G - 9 A - 15 Pts - 24 PIM

This player had WCHA and CHL experience.

From the stats, it looks like the WCHA is a tougher league to play in vs. the WHL, which allegedly where all the skill players go.

The point is that there are no absolutes - both paths have pluses and minuses.

You can take either path and become an NHL star, or an AHL/ECHL/EuroLeague journeyman. One path gets you diploma. You be the judge.

  15. Moving to a 2-3 seed would keep us out of the St. Paul regional, unless UMTC moves up to a 1 seed. That could happen if Ferris or UMLowell lose.

Of course UMTC would have to keep winning. They seem ripe for a Friday loss at the F5, followed by the typical tDon speech, saying that the loss doesn't matter, we just want to get into the tourney.

  16. [

Blah Blah Blah. You guys that are content with just "being there" are the same people who want every single kid to get a trophy in sports. There are WINNERS and there are LOSERS, no matter how much you hippes want to give everyone a trophy, cookie, and a "atta boy" just for TRYING.

Hakstol, has done NOTHING that special since he's been here. His first few years he had Blais's teams that I COULD HAVE COACHED to the playoffs and FF. Bochenski, Parise, Toews, Oshie, Duncan, on and on and on and on.

He had SUPERIOR TALENT and at the end of the day came home with as many Championships (what programs like UND are judged by except by you liberal "happy to be there" clowns) as Michigan Tech and Alaska Anchorage have in the last decade.

Give me a NATIONAL TITLE and 11 bad seasons any day of the week over "Making the playoffs" and CHOKING every single damn year.

Although, that's so HARSH, especially for you "rah rah rah, never say anything negative about our Sioux, rah rah rah" fans.

I guess we need Steve Johnson then - he is from USA/GF - that's all it takes.
  17. Thats true about York but don't forget he already won a national title at Bowling Green.

5 Frozen Fours in what, 7 seasons? Multiple regular season and post season titles. Very impressive. There's no arguing that Hakstol has done a great job. It's just ironic that the people calling him a great coach are the same people who consistently ripped Woog for having almost identical accomplishments while at the U.

Hak does not have the below 500 season Woog had at the end, which also happened to Gino and JSauer.

The fact that Hak has got to 20 wins with circumstances of this season speak highly of his coaching ability. Not an easy task - just ask tDon.

  18. It seems everyone thinks scoring 23 goals is a non-factor.

If it's so easy more people would do it. He's also on the #1 PK unit so he's not a 1-way player.

Scoring goals is hard - we'll miss him when he is gone.

  19. I would love to know how Minnesota and Denver drew. Obviously those numbers would be skewed some since FSN also did the broadcast which more than likely took at least 10,000 viewers away from them since many people probably had no idea Minnesota was even on NBCSN. But I'd still love to know.

NBCSN has exclusive coverage - FSN showed TWolves BB that night.
