  1. Some scores from today's/tonight's games : Hazen-Beulah 7, Bottineau 0 West Fargo 5, Mandan 4 Williston 5, Devils Lake 2
  2. Is it now safe to say the Deichert from Fargo South is the best goalie in the state? Eli Rosendahl's stats took a hit in the Roseau game last night. His G.A.A. goes from 1.00 to 1.59. His save % dropped from 95.1 to 92.5. What a difference a game makes. His G.A.A. is even higher if he didn't play the entire first two periods. As most of us here know, the G.A.A. is calculated by multiplying the number of goals conceded by 51 (the number of minutes in a high schoool regulation game), and then dividing by the minutes played in net.
  3. I think people are overlooking Minot's goalie David Bown. (not Brown) He's currently 3rd in G.A.A. (down to 1.44 after the Bismarck High game), ... better than Michael Hillman's 2.33 and Tony Kringstad's 2.45. Bown has 4 shutouts, including back-to-back against Bismarck Century and Bismarck High. Hillman is a great goalie no doubt ... but the best goalie on the ice the other night between Minot and Bismarck was David Bown. Congrats also, on a nice season, to Danny Groves from Devils Lake. The kid is only a sophomore. If you've seen him play you know what I'm talking about ... plays the angles well, not afraid to play the puck out of the net, and very quick. Fun to watch. Devils Lake could play spoiler in the first round at the State Tournament if Groves is on his game. And yes, before the East fans chime in ... Deichert and Rosendahl are # 1 and # 2.
  4. I posted these numbers in an earlier post and they are correct, at least according to the North Dakota High School Activities Association. Check again for yourself : http://ndhsaa.com/athletics/football/football_2005_07.pdf
  5. A few scores from tonight : Fargo Shanley 5, Hazen-Beulah 4 Devils Lake 4, Mandan 1 Bismarck High 4, Williston 2 I heard that Michael Hillman, in net, was again the story in this one. He had 25 saves for the Demons. Williston outshot BHS, but lost the game. Bismarck High led 3-1 after 2 periods of play. Williston scored to make it 3-2 in the 3rd, but that's as close as they would get. I still haven't heard a score from the Red River/Grafton-Park River Game or the Jamestown/Fargo North game.
  6. Grand Forks Red River 2, Grand Forks Central 1 (Final in regulation)
  7. Here are the male student numbers for the Class A schools : (Taken from the NDHSAA website : http://ndhsaa.com/athletics/football/football_2005_07.pdf Fargo South - 1106 Minot - 981 Bismarck High - 873 West Fargo - 859 Bismarck Century - 788 Fargo North - 666 Grand Forks Red River - 639 Grand Forks Central - 622 Mandan - 543 Dickinson - 493 Jamestown - 437 Williston - 391 Devils Lake-Cando - 387 Wahpeton- 285 Hazen-Beulah - 285 Grafton-Park River - 238 Fargo Shanley - 176 Bottineau - 169 I'm not sure about the male student numbers from Breckenridge which co-ops with Wahpeton. Bismarck St. Mary's, I believe, also co-ops with Bismarck Century in hockey only, so your could add another 180 male students to their number (966 total.)
  8. My "useless fact of the week" ... There are 105 days in the boys high school hockey season. (November 14th through February 25th) It's hard to believe, but we're just a few days away from the halfway point. (December 31st will be day 48.) Anybody want to select their "Mid-Season All-State team"? (3 forwards, 2 defensemen, and 1 goalie)
  9. Final ... Dean Wilson's Fargo South Bruins 3, Phil Housley's Stillwater Ponies 1. Fargo South wins the Kiwanis/Wells Fargo Hockey Festival Championship and the Bruins improve to 10-0. Roseau beat Bismarck High this afternoon 6-0. Roseau is now 9-3, while Bismarck High falls to 5-6 overall. In the same tourney this morning, Jamestown knocked off Lake of the Woods 5-2. Jamestown improved to 3-8 overall. Lake of the Woods is now 5-6. Dickinson won this morning over Ely, MN 7-6. The Midgets improved to 5-6 overall. Ely's record stands at 1-7-1. Anyone hear a score on the Bottineau/Pierson, MB or the Fargo North/Univ. School of Milwaukee, WI game?
  10. I found a few more scores .... Hastings beat New Richmond 3-0. That means, as Lucky11 said, Fargo South (8-0) will play Hastings (6-3-1)in the semis tomorrow at 4:45 pm at Graham West Arena. In the Little Falls Tourney ... Hazen-Beulah beat Becker-Big Lake 9-1. Hazen-Beulah (5-6) will play Kittson Central (1-5-1) for the consolation championship tomorrow (Thurs.) at 1:30 pm. In the same tourney today, Wahpeton-Breckenridge lost to Kittson Central 6-2. Wahpeton-Breckenridge (0-8) will play Becker-Big Lake (1-7) for 7th/8th place tomorrow morning at 11:00 am. In the St. Cloud Apollo Tourney at the MAC/Torrey Arena ... in the 1:45 pm game, Bismarck Century lost to St. Cloud Cathedral today 3-2 in overtime. Bismarck Century (3-7) plays Litchfield-DC (0-9) for 7th/8th tomorrow morning at 9:00 am.
  11. Just some facts : Minnesota polulation - 4,919,479 (Dec, 2000) North Dakota population - 642,200 (Dec, 2000) Minnesota - 72 Class AA H.S. hockey teams, 85 Class A teams (157 total) North Dakota - 18 H.S. hockey teams Minnesota is approximately 8 times larger than North Dakota in population. But 10 times better is hockey? I think not. Do both states had good and bad hockey teams? Yes. MNHockey9 .... you said East Grand Forks is a terrible hockey team? How did they tie Warroad last week then? I see Warroad is ranked # 10 out of 85 Class A Minnesota hockey teams. Hmmm.
  12. I agree with you Crosby 87 .... Minot has to be considered the top team in the west. They are now 32-2 in their last 34 games versus West Region opponents dating back to Feb. 1st, of 2004. (That includes winning the last 26 games straight v.s. West Region teams)
  13. For anyone who is curious .... here's a link to the holiday hockey tournament schedules. They have all nine tournaments scheds. It looks like Williston has cancelled their Holiday Tourney and will only have a JV Tourney. http://www.oldies1390.com/cc-common/mainhe...&article=359898 Fargo South plays Rochester Century at 12:30 pm on Wednesday. Depending on whether they win or lose they'll play on Thursday at 12:15 pm or 4:45 pm against a yet to be determined opponent.
  14. Just a lil Totino-Grace fact : The school is actually named after the pizza and pizza roll founder. http://www.totinograce.org/se3bin/clientgenie.cgi A quote from the website "The school was originally named to honor Archbishop Thomas L. Grace, an early Minnesota bishop who was a pioneer in education. In 1980, the name of the school was augmented to Totino-Grace to honor the generous benefaction of Jim and Rose Totino, entrepreneurs in the frozen pizza business. Today Totino-Grace is the second largest (with a student population of approximately 1100) of the thirteen Catholic high schools in the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis." Who knew? I just heard about this a few weeks ago. Pretty cool.
  15. I know this is a North Dakota hockey message board, but I know a lot of ND hockey rubes who have enjoyed watching the televised Minnesota high school hockey games on FSN, including myself. Four great games coming up on Tuesday night ... so set the Tivo or DVR's. Here's the list of games that are going to be broadcast : December 27 - Schwan
  16. I just wanted to correct an earlier post ... Bismarck Century is 3-4. They have not won 4 straight. The Patriots lost to Williston in overtime 3-2 last night (Saturday.) 1. Lost to Dickinson 9-3 2. Lost to Devils Lake 6-0 3. Lost to West Fargo 10-1 4. Defeated Mandan 3-2 5. Defeated Hazen-Beulah 4-3 6. Defeated Jamestown 3-2 7. Lost to Williston 3-2 (OT)
