  1. I also hear roebuck was forced out. DOnt shoot the messenger please

Hak is next. It's apparent that anyone who isn't on board with retiring the nickname is going to be out. It's really a sad thing what's going on on campus.

  2. I have been following this situation and while I certainly respect your thoughts based on who you are, I must defend the staff on this one. The tweets were certainly enough to rescind the offer on their own merit. His tweets were negative about UND even AFTER he had gotten the offer and accepted verbally. He was questioning whether he really wanted to go to North Dakota, that he may say screw it and not play football at all - just stay out there. In fact, he said prior to the verbal scholarship offer that he did NOT want to go to North Dakota.

These tweets were made available on this website and the overwhelming conclusion was that the kid did not really care about UND football and it showed. One thing to consider: if the tweets were not that bad, why did he delete them?

Once again, I fully respect your opinion and I am disappointed that this did not work out. Your kid has talent and myself and others on here sincerely wish him the best.

We would rip a kid if he verballed and decommitted but this is the reverse...you don't offer a recruit, have the recruit and then pull the plug. Something tells me that we wouldn't have pulled the offer if the transfer QB didn't come to the table. This is something that will hurt us recruiting...other schools will be sure to mention it.

Annette, I'm sorry your son was treated this way. I do believe that (after reading his twitter) he has some growing up to do, but I appreciate the fact that you acknowledge that. UND football should have stuck by it's word and stayed committed to the kid.

What's the saying...what goes around comes around...

  3. Look's like NDSU's attendance has been going down every year for 4 years too. I guess we all have our concerns.

It's hard to stomach that UND football has the lowest attendence of the 4 Dakota Schools. The program needs a shot in the arm and scheduling a solid Non Conference home game can do that. Hence, USD hosting Eastern Washington or UND Men's Basketball renewing the NDSU rivalry. I predict another small drop in attendence this season for UND football...invest in the program, Fasion!

  4. Regarding the 2012 schedule, here is our take:

    1. If you think it is a joke to schedule a D2 team as one of your non-conference home games then you better let Montana and Montana State know also because they have made a habit of it.

    2. It is our first year of eligibility and frankly there is no guarantee how attendance is going to be. How can the AD drop 150k on an east coast doormat if he doesn't know how many people will show?

    3. Our other non-conference home game is against a perennial Southland power in Central Arkansas. That is an excellent home game.

    4. We have San Diego State, who has turned it around and was in a Bowl this year, as our FBS game. Once again, not some 1-11 doormat FBS team.

    5. That leaves 4 Big Sky home games. All of which are going to be tough for our program at this point. (we have heard that Montana State is one of them and based on how the Great West schedule will be this year and how UND is going to UNC this year, we are also guessing that Davis and UNC will be at home--don't know about the 4th game though, could be SUU). Complete guess but we will see.

    6. Honestly, do you think the coaching staff really wants Central Arkansas, 4 Big Sky teams, and another good FCS team as their home slate. Every team in the country tries to play one dog. In some cases they get two (wink wink).

These are our thoughts on the schedule.

Montana has often times NOT played a FBS team, that's why you'll see a DII team on the schedule. In regards to point #2, you have to invest in the program and over time that investment will pay off, it is very likely that a "doormat" from the eastcoast could be a cupcake which could provide a win that gets us enough wins to be playoff eligible. If you ask me that worth spending 150k regardless how many people show up. A playoff team is likely to boost attendence the following year...again another reason to INVEST 150k in the FB program.

  5. A conference tournament in Vegas would do well, I believe. It would be a nice excuse for a trip to Vegas in the winter for Nodaks. ;)

But I thought that a "big advantage" of the Big Sky was the #1 seed got to host the tournament? I've been suggesting Vegas for a year. It would be interesting to see which tournament would have higher attendence the Summit in Sioux Falls or the Big Sky in Vegas?

  6. It seems odd at this level that your head coach would also serve as your o-line coach. I hope Mussman is getting all the help he needs and they are not trying to get by cheap for a year.

When the schedule came out that was the first indication that they were trying to get by cheap for a year...this just solidify's it. IMO Muss (or any head coach) shouldn't be coaching the OL

  7. I am sure the rankings of those two conferences probably change from year to year. Does it really matter since neither one is going to get more than one in the tournament?

I do think it matters. Even though it may be one team, the higher your conference RPI the more likely the top couple of teams will be able to maintain an RPI that can get them at 10-12 seed....which increases the "chance" of a win.

  8. From Terry V's chat yesterday....

    Anyone know what Douple said?

I watched the video...just pointed out that the Big Sky's Conference RPI is 23rd and the Summit League's is 17. Wouldn't be considered a jab without the events of the past 4 or 5 months...but because of those events, it was definately a calculated jab.

  9. We have a football team that is playoff eligible in 2012. Any playoff game that does not include a top 4 seed goes to the homesite of the highest bidder. All things equal, we wouldn't be outbid very often.

We can't pony up money for a FCS non conference game...I'm not holding my breath that UND will be able to "successfully bid' for a home playoff game.

  10. The Cougars, who are not eligible for NCAA postseason play until 2012 when they begin a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference schedule.............

Why is there only a one year transition from NAIA to DII but four years from DII to DI?

Its actually a 2 year transition, although year 1 the NAIA allows the to participate in the post season. I'm sure the reason for 4 years is to discourage as many school as possible from making the move. Since UND has made the move the NCAA has made the DI transition even more difficult, i.e. must have a conference invite prior to making the jump plus nearly a $1M membership fee.

  11. No faith in our football team Old Time Hockey? NDSU just hosted a playoff game and we become playoff eligible next year. As for the Betty no faith in our men's or women's bball team. There is more to Sioux athletics than hockey. And what about the chance the NCAA will throw more sanctions against UND or better yet...make our D1 transition longer. They did it to another school.

Football is possible....Basketball Men's or Women's will never host, not because the ability of the teams but because they way the NCAA runs the tournament (Predetermined Regional Sites)

  12. He wasn't the one scheduling football games and negotiating contracts...now you can argue that he probably should have been the one but I think (actually know) the duty of FB scheduling during the Buning era was handled by someone who is still in the UND Athletic Department.

I will admitt my mistake....the person who negotiated the Idaho State contrat and all others around that time is no longer in the UND athletics departmen (but was until not too long ago)t, but it wasn't Tom Buning. Although Mr. Buning was obiviously responsible for delagating this responsibility to him.

  13. Thankfully the master negotiator responsible for that one is no longer around...

Actually I believe he is still working in the Athletic Department but is no longer negotiating the FB contracts.

  14. Have you done a lot of college football scheduling to know how it should be done? It sounds like you should be offering your services. Realistically, when you made the statement "but in my mind someone gave up and gave in and took the easy way out" you had about 5% of the total information and knowledge UND officials had. I suspect the people who do UND's football scheduling for a living might possibly have a little more information than you. I know that's part of what these forums are about, but statements like the last one are just silly.

Well let's put the facts out there-

    1) Fasion turned down an every other year series verus NDSU....that still blows my mind. Why would that not be helpful for the fb program, attendence and fan interest?

    2) UND has released their 2011 football schedule very early...there are still FCS team looking for games, both home and away (Yes these are advertised)...so to me that tells me that it's taking the easy way out. It's either about the money (we don't want to be for a one game) or its about not being able to secure a contract (home and away; 2 for 1) that fits.

    3) I think the majority of fans, myself included, would rather see an away game verus another FCS team than an "extra home game" versus a recent NAIA team. The players deserve to see where they stack up in the FCS, the fans want to see that and I believe it would be much more valuable for fan interest than 3 non DI one teams. I mean we play 6 out of a possilbe 11 games against teams in our own classification, and one of those is a stretch (Drake) to consider a FCS team.

Here is an honest question, how will it be apparent if progress is made with our FB team next season?
