Well if you mean minot, shanely, jamestown, and barely beating West Fargo you just prove my point even more.
Red River hasn't played Minot this year.

How do you think the U.S. will far against the rest of the world in this year's World Junior Tournament? Could J. Toews lead the tournament in scoring? Personally, I think the U.S. will suprise a lot of people at this years tournament and win the gold medal. It will be a fun tournament to watch this year.
P.S. Noteable Game: U.S. vs. Canada December 27th

RR isnt in the holiday tourny this year because it is Centrals turn. RR was in it last year, RR and Central switch every other year, so next year RR will be in it.
What holiday tournament was Red River in last season?

Along with Alex Simonson quiting the team last week, I was informed today that Cody Misleau (sp) has also quit. That is another player with some varsity experience that has quit. When is this going to end. I have also heard rumors that others were thinking about walking off with Simonson, but ended up deciding not to. Being from Grand Forks, this is a tough thing to see. These kids should be happy and should pride in putting on a jersey with Grand Forks on it, let alone Central, who is undoubtable the best team in the history of North Dakota High School hockey. I hope the coaches can rally the troops together and hopefully Central will pull together as a team.

I don't know if this had been posted or not, but I thought it was a great article about Zack in general. http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/columns/stor...&id=2690913
At least you can spell his name right.

This is just as far as I know, he never coached me. Samson was not a very good motivator and he was not a very disciplined coach. His teams took tons of penalties. During Chads first year as coach, the amount of penalties dropped by a lot.
Yes they should have one State, at least once and maybe twice.
I did not know Blaise helped out with the youth program. Simmilarly, the current Minot State coach (Bernie Lynch) coaches Bantam B's. The kids realy like him and he is very good.
Yes, you are correct in saying that Minot should have won one State Championship. They did that in 1992. That is the only one that they should of won. There was no way in the past couple of years that they would make it out of the semifinal round, let alone the quaterfinals.

Good post, people need to take it easy with Grieco. Remember that he had a pretty good weekend against St. Cloud, so there is potential there. We also need to remember that he is only 17, this is very young especially at the goalie position. Remember that guys like Parise and Goehring came in when they were older and that gave them a big advantage. Give Grieco some time, I feel that in a few years he will be a good goalie. These next two seasons he should get in games like Dartmouth and Bemidji. Lets just hope Lammy stays healthy for the top teams.
He's 18

Brad Miller needs to hit the weights...period. He looks to have great skill with the puck but unless he becomes considerably stronger on his skates, he'll continue to be ineffective against top teams in the WCHA.
Brad Miller was sick for nearly the entire summer. He lost a lot of weight and was unable to work out because he was sick. He has put most of the weight back on, but still is not where he was a year ago.

Shanley has some freshman playing that should mature into good varsity players. They will be bad this year, but they should improve dramatically throughout the season. In the next 3-4 years Shanley should be one of the better teams in the State. I think they will have some close games with North and West Fargo, along with W/B.
Shanley will be one of the better teams in the State in 3-4 years. Good luck with that. They could be one of the worst high school hockey teams I have ever seen put together. They will be luck if they are not fighting to get out of the cellar in 3-4 years.

Will Martin Tatom be able to play this weekend after suffering an injury last weekend against Winona?
-
I take it you haven't seen him in the last 2 years or so.
Agree, John is almost as big Brian is.

There is a video of Matt Jones in a hockey fight in the AHL on October 20.
Steps to get there:
Go to hockeyfights.com
Click on Videos in the left hand column under multimedia
Scroll down to Current AHL
Click on Desbiens vs. Jones to download.

Just to follow up on this old thread, I have the box of old beta tapes that UND83 referred to here. He dropped them off at my house back in May or June sometime I think it was, and I spent the summer converting them all to DVD. I'm always looking to trade for other games I don't already have to add to my collection. If you don't have games to trade I also collect old game programs. If anybody is interested in any of these DVDs let me know. Here's the entire list:
03/11/84 - WCHA playoffs Game 2 vs. Minnesota-Duluth (won 5-4)
03/24/84 - NCAA 3rd place game vs. Michigan State (won 6-5 in OT)
11/23/84 - vs. RPI (won 7-6 in OT, Adam Oates plays for RPI)
12/08/84 - vs. Minnesota-Duluth (won 6-5, Brett Hull plays for the Bulldogs)
12/14/84 - vs. Minnesota (won 4-1)
02/22/85 - at Minnesota (won 6-1)
11/16/85 - vs. Minnesota (lost 2-3)
10/31/86 - vs. Wisconsin (won 9-4)
11/01/86 - vs. Wisconsin (won 6-2)
01/09/87 - vs. Minnesota (won 5-2)
01/10/87 - vs. Minnesota (won 4-2)
03/13/87- WCHA playoffs Game 1 vs. Minnesota (won 5-3)
03/14/87- WCHA playoffs Game 2 vs. Minnesota (won 5-3)
03/26/87 - NCAA semifinal vs. Harvard (upgraded copy)
03/28/87 - NCAA Championship vs. Michigan State (upgraded copy, local news
footage plus season in review highlights show from WDAZ follows the game)
I don't have anything to trade you but I would love to purchase the 1984 playoff game against Duluth. My dad played in that game and I would love to give it to him for a gift.

I agree Redwing, imagine if you had Shephard, Adam, Mason and Freeman on the ice. The penalty count would be in the low to mid-fifties.
Freeman huh? Good thing he calls a lot of penalties. He's a linesman and doesn't call any.

Dakota Hocky magazine has Red River picked as the number 1 team in the state this year. They are followed by Fargo South, Minot, Devils Lake, and Grafton.

What is going on with Marto?
I was down in Omaha last weekend to watch the Lancers play Sioux Falls and then drove to Des Moines to watch the Lancers play the Bucs. Jake played very well both night. Although he is not putting up the points, he still effects the game like he did in high school. He is one of the best skaters on his team and also one of the top defensemen. On Saturday night's game in Des Moines, he played every other shift and was even in a 4-0 loss.
-
Is Reed Manke going to play this weekend against Nebraska-Omaha? He is not listed on the depth chart and I feel that the Sioux have no chance in beating the Mavericks if Chris Belmore is starting at quarterback.
-
Lets go back a few years and include the best games played in the old ralph (through lets say 1990). Any ideas?
When Red River beat Fargo North in 5 overtimes has to be in the top three.
-
Good article too bad they left out our team out (red-river).
The 2005 State Championship game between Red River and Central should be on the list.
-
So that's what those 4 extra years of undergrad taught ya, eh? Maybe I should investigate that.
Oh well, so I'm wrong.
At least this will be Frazee's chance to put up or shut up. Wayne State will be nothing to the Gophers (They aren't even as talented as Alaska ALaska Alaska Nanooks or whatever ) so I doubt we'll see much there. It all comes down to Oct. 6.
You are saying "Wayne State will be nothing to the Gophers?" How did the Gophers season end last year and weren't they supposed to win the West Regional Tournament? They better not overlook anyone else for a long time because "anyone" (Holy Cross) can jump up and bit them in the ass.

another meaningless ranking
http://www.insidecollegehockey.com/5Polls/.../polls_0504.htm
#2 - SIOUX
#3 - GOPHERS
#7 - BADGERS
#9 - PIONEERS
#13 - SCSU HUSKIES
#24 - BULLDOGS
#26 - CC TIGERS
#37 - MAVERICKS
#53 - SEAWOLVES
NO TECH........
Michigan Tech is number 39. If this were the preseason standings, the Sioux will be playing a top 25 team this weekend.

The Central-South game for the State Championship was one of the best high school hockey games I have attended in a long time. A good game between two good teams, it was just meant to be for Central to pull it out in front of the home crowd.

When is Shea Hamilton eligable to play for the Sioux? If he had to sit out a semester, is he eligable to play tonight because the semester is finished? Will he have an impact in the lineup?
