  1. I think it was obvious that the best team won the state championship. Being a former red river player it tough for me to say it but GPR was the better team. The refs did a great job and let the kids play. One call didn't determine the game.

One call didn't determine the game? Your right but there is a whole different game if one of the officals is able to see that Grafton had six players on the ice. Instead of being on the power play and tying the game, Grafton would of been in a 4 on 4 situation and Red River would have had a power play for near a minute and a half. You can't say that that non call changed the game because it took all the momentum Red River had left and gave it to Grafton. I'm sorry but this call was one that changed the outcome of the game and I will bet that there is video replay in next year's state tournament after what happened tonight. Other than that it was a well played game by both teams and congrats to the Spoilers.

  2. I've always been a critic of Wheeler. I don't think he should have been drafted in the top 5 or even the to 20. However, I do think he has pretty good skills for a big player. He's just got nothing to work with.

Bariball is having a sophomore slump. Carman is rusty. Kaufmann is feisty but not really a finisher. Wheeler can score, but he's more of a Toews type player (set up man, playmaker type though obviously not Toews type talent).

He'll eventually make the NHL, but it is going to be a long journey. I think Gretzky was wise to keep him in college and may even be wiser to keep him in Minny until he graduates.

Turris is a flight risk because of his mobility and puck handling skills. It won't be showcased in Wisconsin, but he's a great fit for the "new" NHL. Just look at Skille. The guy did next to nothing in Madison and now he's doing alright for the Hawks.

Please don't ever compare Blake Wheeler to Jonathan Toews.

  3. True, but there is (maybe was now) a chance the NCAA (or WCHA) would look at this and give him one.

    Maybe not now, but...

My point is still valid. If Adam let the clock run out, no altercations would have taken place and there would be nothing against any of the three players.

You cannot let the final three seconds run out especially in a game with this much meaning. What if Oshie dances around the center, passes it to the guy on the wing and he scores as the buzzer is going off. That changes that whole game. You have to play the game until the final buzzer. Although the things that happened after the horn should not have happened, you still have to play those three seconds no matter what.

  4. 8 or so minutes into the 3rd is when rr scored. One goal was on an empty net. the other was of course legit. Were you at the game? Did you see them play or just the highlights on the news? RR is the best team in ND, maybe MN...but that doesn't mean that they can't be beat.

Our goalie that game was a SOPHMORE starting his 3rd game this season....and trust me, south may not get it this year, but next year and that year after SOUTH will be the dominant team in ND. Our sophmore class this year is VERY good, have been playing since grade school and give them a year full in the gym and it will be very fun to see them every home game at the colliseum.

btw, RR as a school is overrated. Hockey and Tennis...congrats....and even the tennis team isn't a clear shot at winning state next year

Central will be the team to beat for the next couple of years. They graduate a few kids but not many are impact players. I look for them to have a very good season next year.

  5. I don't know there were some really bad calls last night in the game. Almost to the point of being really silly.

Lets just say Grafton should have gotten so many powe plays.

For all of you out there complaining about the officating in Grafton, Grand Forks officials no longer travel to Grafton to ref high school games. It is now all Fargo refs that travel to Grafton so you cannot say that Central was being homered by the refs.

  6. I know that UND will be trying to recruit a goaltender to come in next season but I know of someone UND should keep in mind for the near future. I was in Winnipeg a couple of weeks ago watching my cousin play for the Selkirk Steelers. I was with my uncle who ran into another parent of a current Selkirk player and they talked for some time. This parent mentioned that their younger son was a 16 year old goaltender who was just rated the number 1 goalie in Canada for his age. The parent told my uncle that his dream is to come to the University of North Dakota and play for the Sioux. I don't remember the name off hand but I will try and get it up sometime soon.

  7. I love how people are saying the Gophers are going to have so good defensemen in the future but the thing that gets me is the same thing has been said the past few years and the Gophers' defensemen are average at best. That includes Minnesota's Mr. Hockey Winner and 2005 runner up to Brian Lee in R.J. Anderson. We'll see how good these defenseman are going to be when they finally step on the ice in a Gopher jersey.

  8. The other night I went up to Grafton, with a friend of mine that I go to college with at UND (he's a former Grafton grad. and hockey player). He wanted to catch the Riders and Spoilers duke it out, so I decided to go with, why the hell not.

I was disappointed in two different things. #1 the outcome- you gotta love it when your old rivals (Riders) lose. #2 the play of Arnason- I was not impressed at all by his play that night. When I heard he let in 2 goals against Wahpeton the first game of the season I thought that was just some huge fluke, but after seeing the Spoiler game the other night I can see where that could happen...

I'm hoping to make it to the RR v. South game tonight (pending on if I get my ass going on my Calc. homework). Is there anyway that both teams could lose tonight? :D

You went up to Grafton? What game did you catch there because Red River and Grafton played in Grand Forks.

  9. So, does this mean you have SOLID evidence that he has been tested and was positive, or that you are ASSUMING that he is taking steriods. :glare:

    ...and................what.

I know Alex personally and know for a fact that he has not take steriods. He spends a couple of hours in the weight room each day and works hard at getting better. He wouldn't do something stupid like taking steroids.

  11. ah you beat me to it. nice little writeup that makes s good argument for why he is better than Kane..

This guys a retard because he has Sergei Gonchar still playing for the Washington Capitals.

  12. Can't produce when you get triple covered and no one else can step up.

Wes Welker is sometimes not even covered, Donte Stallworth should get double coverage but sometimes doesn't even get covered. The fact that they roll people has more to do with Moss than anyone. He plays hard (ask his teammates), He runs crisp routes, His blocking is surprisingly strong for someone with his build.

Obviously, you have never seen a graphic of how a defense lines up when he is on the field as opposed to how they line up when he isn't.

Do you have a number I can reach them at?

  13. I obviously played for Red River during that 06 season and have talked to my teammates about this subject a lot. The fact was South was just flat out better than us, I'll be the first to admit it. Ask anyone that was in the locker room after the championship and they will tell you that we should have lost by a lot more than we did.

Hopefully people realize that Soohockey15 isn't liked by any of our Red River alumini, he is one of those kids who wishes he could have been out there but just didn't quite have what it took and just can't accept it. It's people like you who give our program a bad name. No wonder so many people across the state are starting to respect programs like South and GPR more than ours.

I would like to apoligize on behalf of the whole Red River program. Don't think this clown can speak for our program.

I have also talked to many members of the team from last year and they said the best team won the state championship. The team you are probably talking that you played for was the Red River JV squad that was average at best. You have no idea what you are talking about and need to quit posting.

  14. I alluded to this earlier, and acknowledging that it's unlikely, does anybody think any consideration at all is being given to lifting the red-shirt off Catlin Solum? Under normal circumstances, I'd say definitely no. However, this is not a normal situation with no playoff possibilities until 2012--after the current batch of red-shirts will presumably be done. It makes for a somewhat interesting decision (if you were convinced that neither Chappell nor Murray will be ready to play by Saturday). He's not Chappell, but he is very good.

I saw Catlin Solum at the game on Saturday with a brace on his leg. I don't think he would be able to play even without a red shirt already.
