  1. Lets compare to a similar situation. Like the one with REA lead by Todd Berning, and the REA now lead by Jody Hodgson.

When the REA 1st open it was lead by Todd Berning, who ended up being a crook. He alienated the coaches, athletic staff, and his own employees. Rumors where running wild, for years 1-4 REA lost huge amounts of money and did not help UND Athletics, pissed off fans, alumni.

Then they hire a new director who has been able to communicate with coaches, athletic staff, and his employees is hard working and has been well received and respected, and I might add honest.

Why would changing AD be any different. To my knowledge Jody is not a member of the "Good Old Boys"

Do your job and you will succeed.

  2. Quite frankly, both sides of this argument -- the "insiders" that started the whisper campaign and those that defend Buning and rail against the "good old boys" -- are both equally annoying in my view.

To me, the only thing that matters is whether the comments Buning made about the athletic department not having the resources for the DI transition are true. That's it. The rest is a soap-opera and is immaterial to me. All I care about is whether UND -- as an institution -- is prepared to successfully make this transition.

I think it is obivious now that the "good old boys" won't be funding the move with Tom Buning as the AD. What remains to be seen is how long Phil Harmeson will last, I can not believe this helped his presidency hopes?

  3. He was there because he coached the older guys on the 1979 team when he was a grad asst. He was also there because of his loyalty to Gene Murphy the 1979 team's head coach and one of the most respected and well liked coaches in any sport in UND history. He was there because he is and always will be a very important part of the UND family and a first class guy.

That brings me to a point that I think a lot of people on need to understand. If we are going to make th D1 move we need to start paying attention to some of the things that go with being a D1 program. You don't have an announcer at your games who keeps making mistakes as to whether or not the running back is Dressler , Chappell or a variation of both (Ryan Dressler). Your announcer does not forget to introduce the Hall of Fame Team's head coach (who left his wheelchair and used a cane to walk out on to the field with his team only to be forgotten by the announcer and then only as an after thought the announcer mumbled something about Coach Murphy that most people couldn't understand. You also need to have an announcer who makes sure if you are going to announce Chappell broke the school record with 306 rushing yards you do so so the fans can hear and understand what he is saying. If the best you can do is holler "OK Sioux Fans on your feet its third and 3", you as an announcer need to upgrade before the next home game or move on. That was pathetic and embarrassing. The announcer also forgot to intrduce the family of one of the other FB coaches from the 1979 team the late Don Stoner's family. Your work as an announcer at a colleg FB game at UND starts the week before the game learning how to pronounce the names and then make sure all special events and announcements are clear. That didn't get done.

I agree. I was especially troubled when Gene Murphy wasn't properly announced. That was a huge blunder.

This was very disturbing, We need to clean house our Asst Athletic Director of Operations should help the AD pack the Van. We also again had trouble with Audio and Video feeds on the website, May not be directly his fault, but I do believe it is his responsibilites on both counts.

  4. The "Big News" proves one thing that this board dicussed at length a while back, should insider information be kept inside the circle? I really believe this latest event was to not be announced til Monday, and the only people who actually know how it came down have to be the President, Mr. Harmenson, and Tom Bunning. It is now apparent that they could not keep it to themselves, or their inner circle of friends.

  5. If Josh Morton is the new head of FSC, what happened to Sarah Newgard, the old director?

Want to spice up the thread?

Someone should ask both Sarah and Lora Petrik why they left?

Who they just could not work with anymore?

  6. Apparently the administartion is not ready for some football....

Tonite is the night before the 1st game and none of our Football Coaches, Support Staff, and Trainers ect... have not received anything in the way of....

    Parking Passes

    Tickets for Family

    Field Passes

    Press Box Credintials

Maybe the LTC and Shep should get off the lake long enough to take care of business...?

Someone tell them school started on Tuesday, the 21st.....but practice has be going on for the last MONTH..!

  7. There will be tailgating at the Alerus. You will have to pay to park and there may be a additional fee for tailgating (larger spots).

I believe that the FSC tailgating tent will be discontinued, which is sad. They continue to take away from FSC members while asking for more money...?

  8. Any word on FieldTurf on Memorial? That was supposed to happen already this summer and hasn't yet.

Why would they install it at memorial stadium, and not at the Alerus? I know both the Fargodome and Alerus have the same type of turf, both in good condition. It's not like it's really a neccessity in either but come on frickin Concordia is gettting field turf. :) But ya know once one gets it the other will soon follow.

I believe it was put on a back burner....and now as part of Dale Lennon's negotiation to stay it was promised to happen soon, upgrades to both the practice turf at Memorial (Which is Horrible) and a Field Turf at the Alerus (Problem with storage is going to hurt, also field turf can not be rolled up, so install and removal will take more man power)

  9. Yep it would be a great idea if Grand Forks didn't allow any new businesses to come to town if they weren't local. That'd be awesome.

Grand Forks needs outside business to grow......But next time you need a donation, or a sponsor for your team or group....?

Try and solicit a "Major Chain".....Go to Menards, Lowes, Super Target, Kohl's, and the likes... The door will hit you in the face!

Where as , The Red Pepper, Italian Moon, Wendy's, Pita Pit, Dakota Sales, Mckinnon Co., Southgate, El Roco just to name a few will continue to "Give" and "Donate".....

  10. All I know is that there used to be a lot of players at the Super Swing events. Maybe it was a bad weekend for the tourney.

Rob Bollinger and Jeff Bowen (both now gone) greatly assited in getting hockey players not only back for this event (held same time every year) but also in giving funds for support of UND athletics. IMO with the handling of the Womens Hockey hiring and the loss of key individuals in the support staff, we have some Hockey Players and Alumni that are expressing their disatisfaction by their lack of support.

  11. Kevin Fee blog.

after reading this I understand why today's Sioux-per Swing was the lowest attended in the last decade, only four former hockey players in attendance, only one head coach played with a handful of other asstiants. Most alumni, and boosters spent the entire day grousing about our current leadership, actually quite sad :silly:

  12. I moved here 30 years ago population was around 48,0000...2nd largest City in the State.

Now 30 years later we have grown to a whopping 52,000...3rd maybe 4th largest City in State.

The truth is that the City of Grand Forks is a aging population with a very small % of students staying after they graduate. We have no "Great Paying Jobs" in Industry / Technology / Manufacturing. Fargo's Micorsoft announces 100 jobs at the begining of this year that start for college grads at 100,0000 per, Grand Forks L & M Fiber announces 200 jobs for 13-15 dollars per hour.

Until Grand Forks is able to secure some form of attractive High paying jobs, we will continue to lag behind in population.

I believe it is a great place to live and raise a family, but you can not ask college grads to stay for 20-30,000 a year. I have seen alot come back into the community when a higher job opens up in the educational field (UND) or medical profession (Altru).

Fargo in this same 30 year period has grown from 60,000 in 1977 to well over 90,000 and if you included West Fargo, Morehead and surrounding areas, I think they are close to 150,000.

  13. A couple of weeks ago a several meetings were held at the Canad Inn pertaining to the Div 1 move, in paticular Football. Alot of past Coaches were in attendance as were major alumni and supporters....

Tom Buning was not there, I was told he was not invited (By Coaches and Alum)....

This seems really odd to me, that the Athletic Director would be left out, or not show up....?

    Anyone have any answers.....?

  14. RT would have drug the program down in some of these key issues if he were to stay. I am not sure what Rob Bollinger would have did, but I think Buning is doing a good job as of now.

This is hilarious....If either Roger Thomas or Rob Bollinger were the AD, we would not be entertaining the possibility of losing Dale Lennon....

  15. The defense attorneys must do a complete and through job, the last thing I believe anyone would wants in this case is any appeals.

Just for information purpose, Robert Hoy is the father of sioux men"s hoopster Jimmy Hoy.

My two cents... When this is all said and done Mr. Rodriguez Jr. will have taken his last breath.
