  1. It may be entirely meaningless, but it is interesting that in the Sioux victory over Manitoba the veterans led the way in scoring, while in the MN game against Alberta it seems to be that the freshman led the way. As I said, it is probably meaningless, but interesting nonetheless. It may, and I stress may, be an indication of team leadership, or lack thereof. In the end, time and the season will tell whether this single game indicator is meaningless or verrrrry interesting.

  2. After continuously reading all of these posts, I suddenly have a feeling (which obviously may be wrong since I am not Indian) that GK is not anti-Fighting Sioux name at all. It appears, from his extensive dialogue and the latest INMED revelations, that he is simply anti-UND and that this is a result of what he obviously feels was some type of mistreatment by UND. We don't know exactly what that alleged mistreatment is. However, it appears that the sole driving force behind his rantings and anti-Fighting Sioux rhetoric is that he is PO'd at UND and all of this is his way of getting even. To sum it all up, he is terribly mad at the entire world, other than those Sioux that choose to live on the reservation and perceivably suffer more than his perceived or supposed suffering. That is a terrible burden and an enormous chip on the shoulder to bear. All of this poisonous attitude is going to ruin what could have been a prductive and fruitful life.

Unfortunately, GK seems to suffer from a malady that is becoming more and more prevalent in all of society today. That is taking responsibility for one's own self. I have gained an enormous amount of respect during this dialogue for a number of individuals, Sioux-cia especially. And it has nothing to with anyone's position on the Fighting Sioux name debate. It has to do with perservering, setting and meeting goals, and taking responsibility for one's own situation.

GK, this has now turned into a sad commentary on your outlook on life and your failure to take responsibility for yourself. You are not responsible for anyone else or for representing others. You are solely responsible for representing yourself, and what you have represented so far is a very sad commentary.

Before you go blasting me for being non-Indian and not humanly possible of comprehending your situation, please take an honest look around the world with an open attitude. There are millions, if not billions, of people out there who have suffered horribly, and perservered without having such a poisonous attitude.

I am no longer upset at the illogical rantings of GK. It is with pity that I view such lousy outlook on life and the waste that attitude will bring.

  3. OH! that hurt my feelings dude! i would totally count on him!  are you talking about kessels jump over the dudes stick and then he scored or are you talking about someone else?

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Sorry about that. Kessel was outstanding undressing the Swedish defensemen one-on-one. He made a couple of moves that were incredible. Absolutely no doubt about that. But he had a tendency to do a Vanek-style disappearing act in other games, and had a tendency not to pass the puck to linemates.

Meanwhile, Stafford continuously created scoring opportunities for himself and his linemates. While they didn't finish them off many times, they definitely had significant opportunities.

Physical skills Kessel clearly has. He needs to ratchet down the "me" philosophy and ratchet up the "us" philosophy. He clearly should have the ability to do that. I have a lot of respect for Lucia, but he wasn't able to fix Vanek's shortcomings. It remains to be seen about Kessel. It should be interesting, no matter what.

  4. I dont think hes a one way player.  when he needs to back up a D then he'll be there.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I saw Kessel play in the WJ and the only time he impressed me was when he had the chance to go one-on-one. He did not generate opportunities for his linemates. Expect him to score some goals, but not many assists. And if I was on defense, I would not be overly confident on him picking up the third man into the zone.

  5. Serioiusly, this is going to be one fun game to watch..I don't know why nobody thinks this will be an exciting game, the NHL game is sooo much faster than the college game, and the players are so much better...it's a great opportunity to see some of the best players in the world. There are young players in this game worth going to see, like O'Sullivan, Koivu, Bouchard, Thelen, and Pouliot for the Wild, and guys like Bouwmeester, Horton, Olesz, McArdle and Stewart...and possibly a chance to see the NHL's best goalie, Roberto Luongo. The tickets aren't too expensive, and it's NHL hockey, I don't see why any self-respecting hockey fan wouldn't go...

I went to a Wild exhibition game two years ago and it was the most boring hockey I have seen in a long time. Absolutely lifeless and dead, no excitement at all. As for ticket prices, $19 will get you in the corners in the upper deck. Try $29 on the sides on top and the ends on the lower level. $39 on the sides on the lower level, according to theralph.com. I actually traded two Sioux tickets to a nonconference game for two tickets to the exhibition game. A mistake I will never make again.

  6. To each his own, but I fail to see how anyone could possibly not love SH as a PA announcer.  I personally feel he's the best anywhere, and if as a Sioux fan his announcing of Sioux scoring doesn't get your blood moving, you are not among the living.  To those that are less enamored with SH, I challenge you to name someone better, whether it be in college or pro and regardless of sport or venue.  Even if you inexplicably do not care for SH, you can't deny that he bleeds green with the best of them.

The fill ins for Scott when he wasn't there last year did not come close to making it. Scott got the crowd involved and helped to set the tone for the atmosphere. It will be a large hole to fill but hopefully there will be someone that can step in and make it there own thing, while helping to create the atmosphere.

Scott - you will truly be missed.

  7. Whoa, check it out.  Eddie Mio is with Phoeinx?

Any of you guys old enough to remember Mio?  Former CC backstopper....had one of the coolest goalie masks of his era.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Yes, I remember him. I also remember him giving up a goal to Dave Geving (D) who flipped the puck into the zone for a line change. Puck bounced twice, Mio stuck out his glove, and the puck bounced over his glove for a goal and a 3-2 Sioux win. This was probably the highlight of Geving's career.
