  1. Good point! I believe the suites come with a stocked bar. I'll call and get more info. If enough people express interest, I don't mind being the person to pull it all together.

Pencil in two spots for me and Mrs. Siouxman. Sounds like fun!

  2. He's missing Jan Ganglehoff to help him with that stuff.

Now, Now. Can't we play nice? At least she didn't do her "tutoring" in the local hockey hangout while simultaneously making cover charges disappear.

  3. My two cents worth on all of the Olympic games I watched:

    1) The U.S. has to quit sending players who view this as an All-Star game (interpret as a reward for NHL play to a vacation and games where total effort is not needed)

    2) The announcers are unbelievable (bad). I actually heard one say: "What a great move. He would have scored if not for the goalie!" Duh - Couldn't anyone score if not for the goalie? Almost (I say almost, but not quite) made me feel like I heard an announcer that I considered worse than Woogster>

  4. They don't consider the head to head meeting as a first tie-breaker?

Not according to the hockey game I watched yesterday on CNBC. Following the Canada-Sweden game, they went through the US situation. The first tie-breaker is based on goal differentials, and the US leads Latvia by about 15 goals.

  5. Now Finland beats Canada 2-0. Canada hasn't scored a goal in the last 6 periods of men's hockey. Don Cherry must be the one leaving yellow streaks on the ice after saying that Canada could field three teams and take all three medals. Seeing a lot of frustration from the Canadian team and doing some not-so-smart things. They are taking a lot of dumb penalties. Right now I don't think that their future in the medal round is looking so good. They should get bronze, but that may be it unless they can plug the leaks.

USA Men should make medal round unless they lose to the Russians by about 15 goals. They have the tie breaker with Latvia, unless they lose by that much. Beyond that, I wouldn't bet on them doing anything else.

  6. It is time to put the Paukovitch idiocy to rest for the Sioux team. They have too much at stake to even have this in their heads. The Sioux cannot afford to lose their discipline, take stupid penalties, or worse wind up losing a player or two for the next game. That is true whether during the Friday or Saturday game. This team cannot afford to lose anyone for the MTU series. MTU has shown a tendency to rear up and bite teams. We know that DU gets cheap when they are losing, and hopefully Hak will have the boys prepared for this situation.

  7. What an incredible passing game. After basically garbage goals on Friday night, all five goals on Saturday were a thing of beauty. The radio guys couldn't even pick out a play of the game with all of those incredible goals. It is like everyone knew where everyone else was (just as they should) and made the pass. They should have given play of the game to Kaip for his attack on Shepard in the 3rd. The puck was on the dasher right up against Shepard. Kaip got in three good swings with the stick trying to get the puck off the dasher, but he kept hitting Shepard. As usual, it took Shepard a while to realize the situation and finally blow the whistle. That was a highlight I never thought that I would see.

The downside to the whole weekend was the difficulty the Sioux had breaking out of the zone. Once they got it going things were fine, but that is an obvious area that needs to be fixed. Brian Lee struggled on Saturday, just not his usual self. Coughing up the puck, not making the timely outlet pass, passing to covered guys or to a Bulldogs player.

Finally, Kozek is a mini-Robbie Bina. He absolutely leveled some guys on the weekend.

OK Sioux - Now let's focus on Denver.

  8. What I really liked about the two wins were the lines. Stafford, Porter, and Toews; Zajac, Spirko. and Oshie; Prpich, Kaip, and Fabian really seems to work. All of the lines skated with energy and the top two lines seem to be clicking. Hak may finally have hit on some combinations that work.

Impressive victories and a team that is sticking together and working for each other.

  9. Unfortunately, Ovechkin has no supporting cast members on this team, and they are doomed not to make the playoffs. Winning the Hart when your team is not in the playoffs? Most likely won't happen unless his numbers get even better than what he has now. If he does stay on his current pace, he'll score in the 60's as far as goals for the year. Only Teemu Selanne has done better as a rookie. At this point, he's definitely the player he was projected to be.

And that is the key - He is doing this without much of a supporting cast. That makes it all that much more impressive.

  10. I'd probably run out into traffic.

To avoid the urge to play in traffic or stain yourself for life, try being a pseudo-rodent. Wear a high school coat or jersey that somewhat resembles rodent colors. They might think that you are a poor rodent fan who doesn't own the real thing and give you a decent deal. Once you have the tickets, remove the outer layer to reveal your "Goldie Sucks!" shirt underneath. This should certainly be less traumatizing. ;)

  11. We need to all, collectively, concentrate on producing good karma. There's probably not many of us still out there listening, but if we all work together, it'll work. If not, no harm done. Let's have a roll call for those still out there.

ok - I just stepped out to get a new can of karma. I guess that I will have to keep trying until I find one that works.
