  1. If you care less about sports teams, why do you care about the nickname and logo of the sports teams?? ;)

Well, you live here long enough and you see enough people hurt you start to take sides. Trust me, I have more important things to do, but at this time and place my time is devoted to defending the rights of my people. So be it. We're almost there.

  2. I don't disagree with you on this either, but there are advantages and programs in place for native americans, my point is if they don't like the name and or logo than don't come to school here and take advantage of the what has been put in place for them. A reason that they do come to school here is because of what is offered to them which is great, but then don't turn around and say that the school or students are hostile and abusive.

Believe it or not people come to school here to get an EDUCATION and could care less about the sports teams. Actually, this happens at many institutions. Again, one more ignorant person. Before you type away you should do your history, and I don't mean asking the guy next to you at the bar.

If you only did your research, you would have seen that all but 2 programs related to American Indian students actually PAY to be on campus.

If you only did your research, you would have found UND does not even mentions FS anywhere when they recruit Native Americans.

If you only did your research, you would see that there isn't ONE Sioux tribe that is behind UND's use of the name. I know PCM says otherwise, but when we were in Bismarck a couple weeks ago the Chairwoman of Spirit Lake AND the Chairman of Standing Rock both affirmed that their tribes have not changed their stance, I directly heard it from them.

So use that ignorant comment. It only shows that you have negative feelings about the people you claim to "honor."

  3. Wow! GK has 'evidence' that he is going to send to Myles Brand. I hope that Myles looks at that evidence and gives it the credibility it deserves when he reviews other evidence that has been sent to him.

It seems that a certain person illegally accessed a SS.com member's account. This certain person than proceeded to post racially inflammatory remarks while posing as the innocent SS.com member. While in the account, he also changed the innocent person's password, email contact address, signature, and sent PMs posing as the innocent SS.com member. Most recently, this certain person posted a PERSONAL MESSAGE sent by the innocent person to another SS.com member last October, saying that he/she 'intercepted' the message.

Mmmm, gee whiz, is there any way to find out who this person is? The certain person can't be very smart or he/she would know that of course there is!!

So, here is a little education for that certain person. Do you know that whenever you post something your post leaves an address? That address can be used to find your network, your computer and your location. I didn't know all that either but I do now. The city and campus police didn't know that either but they were educated by campus computer security. That certain person should look up the legal definitions of libel and defamation when he/she is putting together his/her 'evidence' to send to Myles Brand and the NC$$.

So thank you certain person 'for solidifying the ignorance and "true feelings" you have towards Native people' by your actions.

What are passwords? passwords are used to KEEP people out. Wow, can you all believe there are people out there stupid enough to use their account names for their password? A person might as well leave their door WIDE open for the world to walk in. Wow, talk about cracking cases and detective work, eh?

As for ip addresses, yeah, I know all about them, I also have "physically threatening" pm's that were intercepted (that when I posted them here mysteriously dissappeared, again), by individuals that constantly attack me. I wonder which one would be seen as more of a threat? So either walk your talk or walk away like the UND mumbling sioux fans did last night.

  4. "But that's the problem. We aren't "history", we are here in the living presence. We are still defending who we are, we are still Sioux. I am so tired of hearing about the Vikings. Are you a Viking? Have you spent the last 2 years on a boat, burning and pillaging villages? No. I don't know of one Viking, anywhere. I don't know of anyone who wears the Viking horn hat anymore. But we, the Sioux, still practice our culture, the way it was don't 1000's of year before, we still sing the songs our ancestors did. And we are still fighters. I, like many of my Sioux relatives, have picked up a weapon, loaded munitions onto aircraft, or gave the ultimate sacrifice for this county. Yes, countless others have also, but I'm just saying that Fighting Sioux People still live today. Show me a true Viking. Show me a true Leprechaun. Then we we can discuss this in greater detail." This is from the "Irish hostile and abusive thread" post 37. He claims that it's different because there aren't any true vikings left. Well I'm trying to point out that if that's the way he's gonna use that example, well then he's not a true Sioux. I'm saying a "true" Sioux hunted for food and migrated with the buffalo. I'm not saying anything is wrong with him going to college or not being a "true sioux". But he just can't use that example, because it applies to Sioux also.

Just a little FYI.....as a matter of fact I DO hunt buffalo, and elk, and deer, and my freezer is full of meat. And as soon as it thaws around here I will be tanning that hide, in the traditional ways my people for generations before me have.

  5. The problem here GK is not the nickname or the logo, the problem is people like you that have nothing better to do with there time but whine and bring attention to them selves. You knew what the nickname was when you came to the school and you still came, you know now that you are offended by it, the school year is almost over so leave

When the name change is eventually forced on this campus, I hope you take heed to your own words. I have nothing better to do.....hmmm, I say standing up for my rights and the rights of the Sioux Nation is pretty important. I only stood out there for a couple hours, you probably spent more getting ready for the game, parking, attending the game, and leaving. I would consider that a greater waste of time.

  6. Of course. To GK, respect is only a one way street.

Do you know me? Were you there last night? I don't think so, so I suggest you step off, because you don't even know the half of it. Instead of looking at the evidence I have of abuse, you instead take this time to attack me, again.

  7. And that justifies threats of violence against supporters of the nickname? I see where you stand.

You call it violence, but I will do what is necessary to defend myself, even to cowards. The sad part about the whole ordeal was the children that heard everything going on, on both sides.

  8. Now granted, I did not hear if the Sioux fan had said anything to the protester

Exactly. You DIDN'T hear what he said. So how can you judge what was going on? It's cool though, I have it all on video tape. An hour of fingers, racists comments, threats. I'm sure Myles will find this real interesting. Thanks UND for solidifying the ignorance and "true feelings" you have towards Native people.

  9. do you sit on the back of a horse and sleep in a teepee?

youre an american like it or not

Actually I DO ride horses, and I DO sleep in tipis. and I DO speak my language, and I DO practice my Lakota way of life. Why must being an american mean giving up who I am? Instead of attacking me, why not explain the whole leprechaun/viking thing to me.

  10. I have read alot of what has been said during this whole debate and never responded to any of it. But I must say if the native americans are so offended by the name and logo than why would they come to the school? Just a question.

That's a good question. I, and this is the truth, didn't know this problem even existed until I step foot on campus. Do you think UND promotes this FS crap in ANY Native publications? No.

And do you think that 8 hours southwest of here anyone gives a rip about Hockey? No, again. If I could do it again, I wouldn't be here. I say this because I wanted the entire College experience. I wanted to root for my team, I wanted to attend games and tailgate, but do you think that'll happen here? Not on your life.

The level of education I have received on campus has been excellent. I have met many wonderful people. And like the pins I made last year state:

    "UND

a great school, plagued by a racist name"

Its only a matter of time before we bring this to an end, though. I can guarantee that it will get worse before it gets better, but change is always difficult. But do you think that UND will be "less" of a team when the name changes? I don't

  11. I think PETA has petitioned the NC$$ to stop those commercials because they are demeaning to the monkeys. Or was it the Federation of Actual People who complained because the monkeys made they look stupid?

I would think anything better could come from you. Now you are comparing my people to animals. That's intelligent.

  12. The Fighting Sioux name relates to the Dakota, Lakota and Nakota warriors who ruled the northern plains more than a hundred years ago. It's not a reference to the Sioux people today. It's a reference to the Sioux warriors who long ago fought to defend their land and their way of life.

How do I know this? Because I can look at the logo as a point of reference. The person shown in the logo is clearly an idealized, fictitious Sioux warrior. He doesn't look anything like you or the American Indians I see on campus every day.

The logo isn't intended to represent you any more than the Vikings logo or the Fighting Irish name is intended to represent me.

But that's the problem. Then we we can discuss this in greater detail.

  13. Was it really necessary to add "B" to the reply to HockeyMom? Class or lack there of comes through as usual. We'll be seeing quite soon what else is coming round the pike. :)

B? I thought her name started with....well anyways......I'm sure you can find more than just one letter to complain about.

  14. Just like the ring around my bathtub...scrub like hell and it still shows up...welcome back Dog! :)

That's just too much information. I never left, but just because I don't respond doesn't mean I'm not here.

  15. Fighting Norwegians would be a good nickname too. Then we could have a fighting Ole mascot. Yikes we could also have lefsa (sp) and lutefisk as official foods.

So, with that mentality, you think that H-Sioux-O, Siouxdogs, and Sioup, represent my people? This is where I really start to lose "how" this considered honor.

If you want to eat some traditional food, lets bring in some puppies, and some buffalo tripe.

  16. The U should should just change their name to the Fighting Dakotans and say that they are using it because it is the state's name. They won't be forced to change it because even though it's a group's name, it is also the state name.

I'd like to see the NCAA's off-the-wall and illogical response to denying that name also.

That's fine, just change the logo to someone of scandinavian descent, or German descent.

  17. As usual, the double standard just walks itself out into the open and everyone but GK and the NCAA can see it.

The problem is you can't see how ignorant YOU are. We have no double standard. the Sioux nation, which I am a part of, has asked UND, Cupcake, and the SBHE to retire the name, plain and simple.

If you people who claim to be of irish descent want to take on ND, be my guest.

The fighting sioux logo is not based off of some mythical creature. It is not based off of a dead culture (like the illini, they were all killed by people who invaded their home land). It is based off of the Sioux people.

I know most of you that wear the Sioux jersey have absolutely nothing to do with the Sioux people, but we are here. (Of course, there are exceptions to this and those three Sioux fans that have spent time on a reservation will most likely respond to this).

Believe me, this next year, hold on, its going to be a wild ride.

  18. So GK, you're saying that if we used the cartoon version Sammy Sioux again that would be OK because there really isn't Indians that look like that?

No, that's not what I'm saying. Sammy Sioux was based off of an Indian, a leprechaun is a leprechaun, not human at all.

I know Sioux people. I know Fighting Sioux people. I went to war along Sioux men and women, I fought fires with "Sioux crews", never have I seen a true leprechaun, though.

The Irish government doesn't have to necessarily get involved, but if it was truly offensive I think the media would have informed us that the people of Ireland were offended, don't you think?

  19. When was the last time you seen a leprechaun? A true, green, little leprechaun? On the other hand, I can tell you the last time I seen a Sioux person. I can also tell you the last time I spoke the Lakota language, and participated in the Sioux way of life.

If the Irish truly have a problem with this, then why don't we heard complaints from Irish government? UND dismisses the fact that the Sioux nation, as well as the National Congress of American Indians (which is comprised of the leaders of all of the Federally recognized tribes in the country) have resolutions against the name, but to my knowledge I have not heard, read, or seen anything that states the government of Ireland opposes the use of the name "fighting irish" or the use of the mythical little green guy.

  20. hmmm..no gloating..maybe CBS actually asked GK some REAL questions??? I'd hate to think reality interfered with his "visionquest" ;)

You are an a$$hole SiouxMeNow. But I guess its okay to make a mockery of my culture, because that is all you know how to do.
