  1. At the end of the day, we still control our own destiny for home ice, playoffs, and NCAA regionals.

Win at least 1 game next weekend, we’ll be home for the playoffs. I can’t see Omaha sweeping Duluth on the road. Can’t see CC or WMU sweeping their series, either.

That’s the first step in the process. Worry about the rest in a week.

Might as well toss some out there, guessing there will a few people making the trip.

Local places(non chain) that I enjoy.

    Gronks Bar(beer poured bottom up)

    TBonz

    Duluth Grill

Uncle Louie’s(get there early or expect to wait, limited seating)

    Julies Restaurant

    Mackenzies

    Breakwater

    Anchor Bar(bring cash)

    The Kitchen(only open til 2pm? I believe)

I’m not a huge fan of Blackwoods. It’s good, but overpriced in my opinion. Lots more value elsewhere. Tavern on the Hill is a part of the Blackwoods family.

Clyde Iron is ok. The interior is pretty cool to look at. Food is ok.

    undsports.com has an 8pm start.

Brad's blog says 7:07 pm both nights....which seems weird because Duluth is normally like us (Fri-7:30/Sat-7:00)

    I would say late start

Not that it matters, but Duluth typically starts at 7pm for all its home games regardless of the day, except when tv says so.

Are you sure, this site says 8.375% (which is still high in my opinion) https://www.taxrates.com/state-rates/minnesota/cities/duluth/

You’re right. I should have clarified that the 10.625% includes the sales tax, some sort of tourism tax, a pay for the street lights tax, and finally some sort of bend over and take it tax.

And to top it all off, the city voted to raise the sales tax even higher on Tuesday to pay for road repair because they believed that a casino would keep their end of the deal and give them free money each year.

The City has to now go sell the state of MN on that they should raise their sales tax accordingly.

I have a Hobey Baker Ryan Duncan puck.

Let me know if you are interested.

Possibility of a game in Nashville and if UND played an outdoor game at Target Field it would most likely be against one of the other Minnesota teams and not the Gophers.

    http://www.inforum.com/sports/4301651-und-plans-continue-playing-unique-showcase-hockey-games

The NCHC needs to continue that hockey showcase each year.

Inside-only hockey showcase games. There's plenty of untapped college hockey areas that would be successful.

No outdoor games unless it's an exhibition. Too much at stake and too many variables.

Don't risk lowering the quality of the game outside when you are trying to grow the overall college hockey game.

Looks like everyone is ignoring Toms story.

No one is ignoring it, I was just making an observation that Brad hadn't tweeted/retweeted anything yet about the letter.

He's reported/had an opinion on almost every other negative news regarding the women's hockey team. I was just wondering how he missed the final nail.

I understand the point you are making, but is Duluth that much more blue collar than Grand Forks?

    No.

It's amazing, sad, and dumbfounding how many quality teams they've had recently + a brand new arena, yet still can't fill their arena on a regular basis.

High school hockey is big over here(in Duluth), but it's just a different environment than in Grand Forks. Maybe the arena location, but I think it's more the type of people in this town. 7,000 people packed their arena for a high school game on a week night. But UMD can't get that number on the weekend. Just weird.

  9. I'm ok with this decision from a fiscal standpoint like most everyone on here.

But, I'm so sick and tired of reading articles from all over stating how successful the women's program was. Do some research. That's all.

From MPR: "One of the most successful programs in the country."

Someone from the Athletic Department needs to bring some cold, hard, financial facts to the table and soon. For every positive article, there's probably 50-100 negative articles. I'm still waiting to see a positive article, too.

They did the hard part that everyone knew had to be done, but were too scared to do before. The bandaid has been ripped off.

Now is the easy part to put facts out to justify everything. Communicate.

OK, it was bad, but it's probably time to get over it.  It was a meaningless game, and UND did end up on the PP for what seemed like half the game.  At this point, it's time to look to Friday, for me.

Pionk may experience renewed interest in the topic when the teams first meet in the regular season next year.

For this weekend, if both NCHC teams are fortunate enough to advance, I doubt you'll see more than about six PPs in the game.  They both will know what's on the line.

Pionk is undrafted. With his skill set, he'll get a lot of looks in the offseason to sign.

Wouldn't surprise me if he left when the money is there.

Clearly it must have been built prior to the concept of hot water in rest rooms hit Minneapolis.

I will give them credit, they have made improvements.  The new video screen was impressive.  The ushers were much more friendly than experienced in early years of the tournament.  The food quality has improved since year 1, but it is still very greatly overpriced and not much of it is worth eating.  I was getting tired of watching skaters falling down all by themselves every time they tried to skate near the end boards.  The ice conditions were not good on the ends.  The middle seemed fine, but hockey uses the whole sheet of ice.  They have lowered the building temperature significantly to help fix the ice, but only sell coffee at one concession stand and no hot chocolate at any of them.  They will get my input again, not that it will help.

I've been there all the years, never been bothered by an usher yet.

On a side note, they're redoing all of the coolant piping underneath the concrete this summer, so hopefully that will improve the ice conditions.

Any chance he sits next weekend once league reviews tape?

I just find it hard to believe the league/NCAA wouldn't look at that Pionk bulldozer play.

You can't come up with a valid reason he did what he did. If they call that play correctly(5+game), I don't think that game gets out of hand like it did.

And to not give Toninato at least a 10 minute misconduct for his temper tantrums is ridiculous.
