  1. I didn't use the main entrance today (used the less travelled northwest entrance). I was just wondering if there were any nickname protesters in the vicinity? I figured there may be with all of the hoopla going on these days.

  2. This was a pretty good game today. We didn't dominate until the 4th quarter, but let's not forget that West Chester was one game away from the National Championship game last year.

The defense was opportunistic, the special teams were fantastic. Dressler's 92-yard return was a beautiful thing to watch. Glas' 47 yard FG would have been good from 55. The offense was adequate and efficient. The O-Line seemed to get pushed around a little bit, and Belmore wasn't close on any throw over 10 yards, but he managed the game well.

On a side note, the new NC banner surrounded by all of the NCC championship banners hanging in the Alerus looked great.

Anyone hear the attendance figures? It seemed like a decent crowd for a holiday weekend.

  3. For those of you with systems:

I'm going to be moving to Minneapolis around New Years and definately will be missing the chance to go to every home game.  So I figure if I can get a satellite system then I'll be good.

First off, how much does a good system cost?  How much for installation?

Also, which direction does it need to be pointed?  When looking for apartment I would like to know where I need to be in order to have the dish pointed in the right direction.  If it comes down to it I'll just end up at the bar every friday and saturday night.

If you're going to the TC, contact PSB. I'll I can say is go with the biggest dish possible. I use an old primestar dish, which works great. The bigger the dish, the better the reception. Hopefully, the new satellite will be better than last year's, as many with smaller dishes had problems last season. The dish needs to have a clear veiw of the southern sky. I think you could probably get a decent system for around $300, as long as you are only worried about getting Sioux games, and no other programming. I have used both Fortec and Satwork (which is what REA used to sell) receivers. In my opionion the Fortec is a far superior receiver, it costs a little more but not that much.

  4. I just wanted to say THANK YOU VERY MUCH, PSB. Just got off the phone with him helping to find the new satellite for the upcoming FSSN broadcast season. I only use my system for Sioux games, so I thought I would find the satellite now, rather than when it is 5 degrees outside. PSB was a big help tonight, not the first time he has helped me so I can pick up UND games. For anyone looking to invest in a FTA satellite system so that you can watch the Sioux, I highly recommend contacting PSB for all of your equipment and/or questions. The first post in this thread will lead you to him. Once again, thanks alot PSB, I appreciate it. I'm looking forward to another great season of watching Sioux athletics in the comfort of my own home thanks to you.

  5. If I am not mistaken, this was part of the new contract UND worked out with the Al. UND just had to come up with the money to pay for it. Not sure if it will happen at all this year or if it will be next season before we see it. Hopefully it is still in the plans. I woud also like to see something on the west side of the building along interstate that says "Home to the University of North Dakota Fighting Sioux" I also wouldn't mind seeing a nicer National Championship banner and maybe even a Natioanl Runner-Up banner. Something more along the lines of the ones in the Ralph. The plastic looking one currently in the Al just doesn't look that nice.

All those WCHA championship banners in the Ralph look pretty darn good. How about having banners for the NCC titles hanging in the Alerus also? The Alerus is a great place to watch football games, and when it gets real loud, it's the best. But it does feel more like a community events center than it does the Home of the Fighting Sioux. More should be done to give it that "college atmosphere" for before and after the games, rather than just during them.

  6. How about a shrine to Sioux football in the Alerus? Something like what's in the Ralph, only on a smaller scale. The NC trophy could be on display, along with the Nickel trophy. A history of the sioux football program, including the Sioux-Bison Rivalry. A "Wall of Fame" with pictures and a short bio on some Sioux greats. I admit it is kind of cool walking through the Fargodome and looking at some of the larger-than-life-sized game photos displayed on the walls. That could be neat to see at the Alerus.

  7. What are you talking about, BigGame?  The truth finally comes out and you think it makes NDSU look bad!  NDSU wanted the game at first, UND, with RT and C-Kup, wanted to make NDSU's transition as miserable as possible, declined to play the game.  Now UND wants the game again, please tell how that makes NDSU and the AD look bad.

How long before UND moves to D1AA and proves NDSU right?  I would think that the alumni would be having a hissy fit about now.  How many times will you play Minot State and University of Mary and the Bison play Minnesota and Iowa before there is a major uproar?

NDSU looks bad because of the reasons they are publicly making for not wanting to schedule UND. UND's reasons, state to the public, were because it could have negative playoff implications, and it would not be a level playing field scholarship-wise. NDSU's reasons now for not wanting to play are basically to spite UND, "because UND has made their bed, now they have to sleep in it", as Gene Taylor said. I think it is probably true that an underlying reason for UND not scheduling the bison last year was because they didn't want to help them out in their first year of transition. But at least their official reasons had validity. NDSU's official reason is, "we're cranky, and now we can get even with you." That makes NDSU look bad.

  8. Well, tonight's Vikings pre-season game was pretty pathetic. Bowenkamp didn't even see the field. I don't understand that. Unless he has been extremely poor in practice, I don't see why the coaching staff would not want to at least see him take a few snaps in only the 2nd preseason game. I understand that Hill had a nice third quarter, leading the offense to two TDs, but still, I would think that Tice would want to see all four QB's play in the game, especially since Hill has been with the team for three years, they've seen alot of him and shown little development. Tice is hands down the worst coach in the NFL. His skills were evident tonight by the 15 or 16 penalties that the Viqueens accumulated.

  9. I don't know if anyone else brought this up in another thread at all, but when the Nickname announcement came out last week the "Common Man" Dan Cole on KFAN out of the TC had some pretty harsh words for the Sioux. Proclaiming that UND should change the name because it is the "right thing to do". Besides being the "right thing to do" he also said we have "a lousy hockey program" :glare: . Pretty hard to take that guy seriously, I know. Now, I've heard the FAN playing those soundbites in ads for his show! Gofer-Homer tactics never cease to amaze me.

  10. Sounds like the comcast deal requires them to bring the NHL Network from Canada into the U.S., so that will be kinda neat. I wonder why Directv doesn't carry TSN on their sportspak? That would certainly help promote the sport if it were available in the States. I wonder when pricing for NHL Center Ice will be announced, I'll bet it will be a bargain. :glare:

  11. I would rather GrandForkers know nothing about Sioux culture than pretend they do and end up mocking the very people they say they honor.

I find it hard to believe that you have ever seen or heard of anyone in Grand Forks (other than an occasional belligerent visiting fan), any UND student, alumni, fan, or supporter ever "mock" a Sioux Indian or the Sioux culture. Have you ever been to the Ralph or to the UND campus? Both are shrines to UND Athletics, Academics, and North DAKOTA Native American Indian culture.

  12. Back to the subject of increasing football attendance, how about sending free subrscriptions of Sioux Illustrated to high school libraries in ND and NW MN? At only $15 per year, it wouldn't cost all that much to send it to 50 or so schools in the region, and could increase interest in Sioux Athletics.

  13. .....But happy feet, a wobbly ball and too short?  Don't think so.

Belmore is a good athlete and has shown some times he can be very good.  He is a good athlete.  I would expect him to  improve.  I think Freund has a good future but I have not heard anyone close to the program think he will be ahead of either Manke or Belmore.

Manke is 6'0", Belmore is 6'2", Bowenkamp was 6'5". I believe Klosterman was short as well, but he was a special player. Manke is no Klosterman. Whoever starts, I hope succeeds, but like I said I've seen Belmore and Manke as much as anyone else, they both scare me. But Belmore gives me little more confidence.

Today's Forum said UND will pass more this season. That surprises me, hopefully I am wrong about the quarterback situation.

  14. I hope Belmore doesn't start, and I certainly hope Manke doesn't start. They're both real scary. I say throw Freund into the fire.

Seriously, Belmore will start and Belmore will finish. Manke has the potential to be the best holder in UND history.

  15. My favorite memory didn't happen during a college game, but in the mid-90's during the summer the Sioux basketball team was doing some sort of promotional tour. Scott Guldseth, Rico Burkett, Broderick Powell, and several others came to my high school and I got to play with them on the court. It was awesome, alot of goofing around, but a great experience. Actually, it was my first experience with Sioux athletics. I got to visit with those three alot afterwards, all good guys.

  16. What does Dan Hammer do when it is the offseason? He would be awesome as the host of a weekly Sioux Football radio show. Or even Tony Stein or Tank. Hammer is the voice but Stein and Macnamara are both hardcore UND fans. I really enjoyed Dan Hammer's radio sports show when 1280 AM in Fargo, then known as the "Ticket", was trying to do local sports shows in the mid-90's. I never hear anything about him when it is not football season.
