  1. It said in the Herald today that there were NFL scouts from Philadelphia and Jacksonville at yesterday's game looking at Chris Kuper, Digger Anderson, and Jeff Glas. I'm sure Glas' performance made them take note.

  2. Is there a college division of "Worlds Strongest Man"? I hope not, because if there is we all know ESPNU would televise "Worlds Strongest Co-ED", or "Dorm Room Poker Showdown" over college hockey. My hopes are not real high for ESPNU. Nice concept though.

  3. Good game today. Nice showing by the fans. As usual the defense was stellar, but seemed to allow WW to convert on alot of third downs. This was by far the best showing by the offense so far this season. Easily Belmore's best game, he looked poised and confident, and I can only remember him missing one throw. Dressler was fantastic as usual. His catch and long run for a TD was display of him turning on the afterburners. The punt return TD that got called back was unfortunate, but it was the right call. It was the block that freed him, the tackler missed him by only a foot or so. Glas was great, hitting two monster field goals, 48 and 52 yards I think. But for some reason he wasn't booming kickoffs into the endzone today as usual.

  4. I just did a search for "North Dakota" on the Tivo, and on Monday night 9/19/05, NFL Network is airing Football America. The title description says "Backyard Brawls--Harlem Hellcats; North Dakota; rivalries". I'd assume this is the one done a few years ago that feautred the Sioux/Bison rivalry. It starts at 9:00 p.m. in case anyone is interested.

  5. So if UND changed its nickname, or just stopped having one all together, wouldn't REA be off the hook because the symbols in and around the building would no longer be those of a schools mascot? They'd just be the logo of a private company. The NCAA can't regulate private companies, can they?

  6. Of course, NDSU and their allies in Forum Communications will paint this as another step in moving to "the highest levels in athletics, academics and research",....

Let's not forget that it is Forum Communications (WDAZ/FSSN) that also holds the television rights to Sioux athletics. And Sioux athletic events are those which Forum Communications (rightfully so) chooses to export throughout the country via satellite. The Forum newspaper is obviously a homer for the Bison, but the parent company has its priorities straight. I'm sure there is a reason they don't invest in producing more than 2 or 3 NDSU sporting events per year, while at the same time broadcasting nearly 30 UND events.

As far as the Alerus/Fargodome debate goes, I prefer the Alerus. The fact is that both are community event centers, that were built big enough to hold football games. Neither was built with an excessive amount of $$ to lavish the places with many luxuries. When walking through the concourse of either building, one gets the feeling of being in a concrete high school basement. The one advantage the dome has is the location of the Suites, and how they are built. I always liked that. At least when you go to the Alerus, you KNOW that it will be a great, loud, fun atmosphere. When you go to the Fargodome, it had better be a sell-out if you are expecting that same atmosphere. 15,000 in the Dome, is not as loud, adrenaline-filled, pumped up, shear excitement as 9,000 in the Alerus is. And when the Alerus is full, bring your earplugs. Just ask UC-Davis, or NDSU for that matter. When NDSU was in the NCC, I don't think that any game they had against UNO, SCSU, etc was ever as loud or intimidating to what those same programs have faced in the Alerus.

  7. This is kind of related to the Uniform Design topic, but does anyone think that the UND players last names should be on the back of jerseys? I'd think it would help give a better identity for players to the more casual fans and help them identify with players more. I know most of us on this board probably know that #18 is Dressler, #27 is Strouth, etc., but the more casual fan might like watch Dressler return a kickoff 92 yards, and not have to look at his/her game program during the run.

As far as giveaways go, bobbleheads seem to be big!

  8. Intelsat 8 seems to be very busy tonight, lots of local Patriots coverage, plus I was just watching some channel televising a Buffalo Bills radio show. Pretty cool.

Just found ESPN NFL Sunday Countdown, too!!

  9. I pointed my dish to the new satellite, Intelsat America 8, a few days ago. Locked it in around 90% signal on the test card channel (11974 V, S/R 5.632) and it worked great for days. I flipped it on last night just to check it, and there is nothing. Still nothing today. Did the test card go down? Is there a different transponder I can try? It's not an equipment problem because I can still get all the Chinese channels on G3C when I turn the dish. Any ideas?

  10. The Lennon Show is a much better football show, and the features are better as well. The Bohl show is produced much better, for example the intro to the Bison show is alot more entertaining and cool looking, better music, etc. Phil Hansen, bless his soul, I'm proud that he is a native North Dakotan, great player, but listening to him speak is like pulling teeth. Pat Sweeney is much better hosting/interviewing, and he should be, he has 30 years of experience. Both are good shows.

  11. GK will say Standing Rock has the right to self-portrayal, so they can be the Warriors if they so chose.  UND does not have the right to portray themselves as the Sioux though, as they are not.

Does UND, the University of North DAKOTA, not represent the state of North DAKOTA? Our state was named North DAKOTA in part because it was once known as the DAKOTA Territory. I believe it was named the DAKOTA Territory because of the presence of one of the predominate Native American tribes that inhabited the region. Does the most prominent and visible University in the state of North DAKOTA not have the right to self-portrayal?

  12. I haven't watched enough NHL to know very much about which announcers are good or bad, but I wasn't terribly excited about Gary Thorne during the Frozen Four. Anybody heard who will call the games on NBC?

  13. Hopefully his casino in Las Vegas can also survive. At least for a while. I have been to LV a few times yet somehow never seem to be able to make it to Ralph's Place.

You aren't missing much. Pretty out-dated. Pretty much a dive. Awesome car collection though!!
