  1. Who in Grand Forks shot Potulny's dog? Someone door ding Irmen's car? The interview's with these two and the on-ice antics (Irmen) were a little over the top. I can understand getting fired up for the games, but do we need to hear about "it" constantly? I guess I'd put most of the blame on FSN for hyping it and ask the leading questions during the period interviews.

Do they take some serious heat from the locals, or what?

taz digs the impartial FSN post game coverage

I have a door ding in my car too. It must have been a Gopher fan.

  2. I agree with you about Miller having a outstanding year. Gionta would have been a fluke. He had something like 56 points that year compared to Jeff's 83. As far as Parise/Lessard. Lessard had 8 more points than Parise, but played 8 more games than him. Zach made everyone on his team a much better player. Not to say that Jr. didn't do that, but Parise was the complete package for a college hockey player. His work ethic was second to none, which speaks volumes. This was one of the cases where the voters needed to look beyond the players' stats, and actually look at the players on the ice.

the joke wasn't so much miller beating panzer, but more the fact gionta finishing next to panzer in the voting.

  3. Well, no other sports have a I-AA, so you'd be talking a move to D-I in basketball and all other sports. I struggle to imagine any sport in which UND would quickly be nationally competitive in D-I, outside of swimming & diving. The goal for basketball would change from a national championship to making the playoffs and getting to play a first round bodybag game against Duke or UConn.

I would guess that most college basketball players would rather play to win their D-I conference and make a March Madness appearance than win a D-II championship. Pure speculation on my part, though.

Perhaps UND women's basketball could move up to DI if Kupchella's proposal goes through. And perhaps the men's team could move down to D3 so Coach Glas could be competitive again.

  4. If you happen to have a copy of the 2004 ND state hockey finals, between GFC and South. Watch the last 3 minutes of that film. A well fought game by both teams, then the officials got alittle chesty and took it out of the kids hands.

South choked, something they are pretty good at. Every year all we hear is South South South. Every year in the championhip, it is Grand Forks, Grand Forks, Grand Forks. This year will be no different.

  5. I was watching the game on TV and after the little thing between Prpich and Paukovich I heard someone use the f word. I believe it was Paukovich. Did anyone else hear that? Also I liked the little chat between Paukovich and Stafford at the end. ???

If you are going to be a tough guy, do it on Friday night or earlier Sat night. There is no way that Paukovich was going to fight with 30 seconds left in the game.

  6. seating.jpg

I really don't understand why the students are not in sections 105, 106, 306, and 306A. It would solve the issue of standing and blocking other sections. You could stick the band in the top of either section 105 or 106. They are right in the same corner as the student entrance. The students would be directly behind the opposing teams goalie twice for convenient taunting!!!

I also don't think that student's should have assigned seating. Let the die hard fans who want to show up and stand in line for 5 hours have the best seats. It would help with the atmosphere during games.

Because there are already people sitting in those sections. People that haven't received any complaints. Why punish the season ticket holders that have not received complaints and reward the group that has received complaints? And before a student jumps all over me, let me say this, I personally think that 99% of the students are class acts. The other 1% will behave as jerks regardless of where they are sitting so why move them?

  7. Do you not see the never ending circle?

He makes good points...you make good points.

One side wants answers to questions....the other side wants answers to questions.

Kracker could ask you question like "show me how the name is honoring me."  When I am a NA and and I see this every day.  I guess the horse isn't dead yet.

Its obvious GK is getting under your skin.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

The answer to that could be "You are being honored because.. UND has proven time and time again that it caters to Native American students (INMED, NA Cultural Center, scholarships, etc). The name/logo serves to reiterate the fact that UND is one of the more Native American friendly colleges in the US.

If anything, UND is discriminatory against caucasians. When I was going to UND there were no scholarships available to "white people only". However, there are scholarships available to Native Americans only. There was no house on campus called the European/caucasian cultural center. However, there is a Native American Cultural center. There was no "white people into medicine" program that basically set up a quota to allow "x" amount of white people in every year. However, the Native Americans had the Inmed program that did this.

  8. Coming from someone who has worked on the reservations of Nodak and Minnesota, here are my two cents. Any resolutions by tribal councils are not worth the paper they are written on. Tribal governments are the most corrupt governments that I have ever seen. They embezzle money which keeps it from going to the people in the tribe that really need it. Tribal council members are continually getting voted in and then recalled the next week. It is like a game of musical chairs. Heck, you can be a Chief Prosecutor on reservations without even having a law degree.

The Sioux nickname is not the reason that every new building on the reservation has it's windows broken within the first week. The name doesn't force alcohol down native americans throats. The name does not cause people to be unemployed.

  9. Actually, I thought there was quite a bit of talk about it being a hate crime right away.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Actually, you are wrong, there was very little, if any, talk of it being a hate crime. It was played off as a party gone bad type of situation.

Reverse discrimination is alive and well.

  10. Well after the logo is taken away, I guess we can do away with all of the native american scholarships, the indian studies dept, the native american cultural center, etc. Because without the logo and nickname, none of those would be at UND. Look at NDSU, no native american logo or nickname and how many indian programs do they have?

I have worked on multiple indian reservations, including Red Lake, Leech Lake, White Earth, Turtle Mtn and Spirit Lake. And believe me, there is some personal housekeeping that needs to be done at all of those places before they should start worrying about UND.

  11. Minot showed their true colors in the first round of the state tourney this year. An unbeaten record in the west is equivalent to a .500 record in the east.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Even if they beat every east team they played during the year including Central, Red River, and Grafton?
