  1. This game feels a lot like an NCAA playoff  game. Both teams getting chances, playing well, checking HARD, goalies making big saves. Nothing mimics the tourney and preps a team  like this game right now

I’m always so happy for Albrecht when he scores.

You just knew that 4th line was going to snag one tonight. Now we have 3 different lines that have scored and none of them was from our “top” line, depending on how you look at which one is the top line.

2008. The game was over halfway through the first period. Ugh.

Yeah we crammed 5 ppl into a 4-person car to drive from grand forks through an overnight blizzard in nebraska to get to Denver for that one. The things poor college students do to watch a good ol’ fashioned stomping :(

I have never listened to Ciske before on the radio, decided to tune in tonight, dear lord he is pathetic

Haha please share some quips for the group so we can get some laughs after knowing what he’s saying about us

If the playoffs started today we’d breeze through rounds 1 and 2 and into the FF. #3 in the PW ain’t too shabby. Just sayin’.

No one is going to have a piece of cake in the first round this year. I don’t remember the last time the bubble teams had such solid potential to make a frozen four as they do this season. For example: Just this last weekend the  #17 pairwise team jumped up to #11 by sweeping the #2/3 team in the pairwise. There are always upsets, but predicting the first round winners in the NCAAs this year is going to be tougher than normal.

In order to win the Penrose, I think we need to win all 6 of our remaining games. I do not want a repeat of 2022, where we beat Omaha on the road on Friday to clinch a share of the Penrose, then lost the next night and failed to win the league outright. Then in the first round of the NCHC playoffs, we didn't look impressive in a home sweep. We looked punchless in the Frozen Faceoff vs. Western Michigan and in the NCAA first round against Notre Dame. I want us to have momentum and confidence going into the postseason, two things we do not have right now. Duluth cannot be allowed to "steal" any points this weekend.

We also were without Sanderson (easily our best player that season) for the frozen faceoff and NCAAs in 2022. I honestly think we may have beaten 1 or both of those teams with him because those were close, winnable games.  If we would have had that punch on the power play and could have driven more offense from the back end, we have a way better chance.

The 2016 team would blow the doors off of every team of the past 20 years or so (minus the 2011 and 2020 COVID teams). But this year's team is the best since 2020. What we look like next season and beyond will depend in part on how many guys sign early.

Yeah both the 2020 and 2021 teams would absolutely wreck this season’s team. Forward depth, goaltending, and d Corp.

a top line of Guchi Adams and mismash combined with Shane pinto centering 2nd line and Weatherby centering 3rd line is pure insanity. Plus Scheel was a better and more consistent goalie. I still give 2021 the edge with Sanderson and Kleven on D along with JBD kierstad, bast, Frisch. Too good and a team that could have gone head to head with 2016 or 2011 when it comes to scoring depth, all around defensive play, and goaltending.

Feels like a good spot to get a sweep and right the ship.  The history between these teams scares me into thinking the dogs will steal one.  Will berry stick with Persson through his funk and what lineup changes are coming to get us back on track.  It's going to be a big weekend for our season.

I’d like to see hedquist due to Persson’s complete lack of consistency for weeks. But since we need to get in a rhythm leading into playoffs I’m guessing Berry plays Persson to see if he can get out of his funk and start playing well every night to the level we know he can play at. But our play in front of him was a massive problem all weekend so if we clean that up, I like our chances this coming weekend. I don’t see us getting 6 clean points but I think we get 4-5 out of the weekend and “win” the series. Although we should get 6 against them at home just looking at paper and computers haha

Has he? Beating UND is one thing, but UND has still had a better season. Btw, I did say Mayotte would win it lol

Has Mayotte done a better job with what he has compared to Berry doing what he's done with our talent? Then yes, Mayotte wins. And I'm still saying Berry has done a really good job and I still want him as our coach. But Mayotte is easily the NCHC coach of the year. I know you can't really admit that on a public forum but Mayotte has done an incredible job this season in the conference from a coaching standpoint with Berry being number 2.

In defense of Bubs (I think Mayotte will likely win it, and should), he turned around AN ENTIRE DCorps and added a new goaltender. That's a helluva recruiting and coaching job

Who are we thinking on coach of the year at this point? lol sorry…too fun to ignore.

Yes Berry really has done great but Mayotte  has done better.

Win or lose we have to be happy with the response this team has shown compared to last night. This 3rd period will tell the story of how we face this adversity.

I rescind this. Please excuse me jinxing the 3rd period

So the expectations are no longer to be the top program in the country every year to just being one of the best? Might as well pack it in and go home at that point.

This isn’t a fair comment nowadays because there is sooo much good talent and so many great coaches. Add in the ability to use video for breaking down shifts and pre scouting the other teams/players and it makes for a more even playing field. We should and do expect great things but ripping Hak for never winning the big one and ripping a loss here and there (although we did play reeeally bad last night) isn’t always fair. Missing the tourney on 3 of the last 5 years was a painful blow but we are back on the upswing.

Another example of how many good teams and players there are now: look at the bubble teams in the pairwise at 12-18ish and you can safely say any of those teams could legitimately make the frozen four. There will absolutely be “upsets” this year as there always are in the tourney but this season they should hardly be considered upsets in a one and done situation.

sorry for the rant: I understand if I get the TLDR response haha

Seems like lots of fans are ready to write off this season after one horrible game.  Here are some bad losses from our last 5 championship seasons:

    (2016) 6-1 St Cloud

    (2000) 7-2 Denver

    (1997) 8-3 CC

               10-6 Minnesota

    (1987) 8-5 Mich Tech

(1982) 9-0 Wisconsin (this one was in the WCHA tournament)

Personally, I'm going to enjoy the rest of the season.  This is still a very good team that has an excellent chance to land a #1 seed in the regionals and play in St. Paul for a chance to get 2 wins and hang #9.

I have a feeling we will see a very different performance tonight.

Heck we got swept at DU in either January or February of 2016 and that turned out fairly decent a couple months later

  14. I think it’s more than just effort and tenacity. Because our guys came out with a ton of tenacity last night. It was about them making the wrong plays and not being able to break through the neutral zone or play with possession in the O-zone at even strength. Once we had that goal “taken away” with the early whistle and the high stick call for CC’s 3rd goal went the wrong way against us, we mentally crumbled. We were outcoached pretty hard and it got in our heads. Like it’s been said already, tonight’s response tells us a lot about our team. I still think CC deserves credit and is good enough to finish the sweep against us but we have enough talent to win if we play a smarter game.

  15. Hedquist should get the start tonight and some lines better be jumbled. A message needs to be sent that nights like last night (and like Friday in Oxford, for that matter) are unacceptable. The way we have lines set up, johannes or not, is not the answer for this team. Our 4th line was the only line that created 5x5 chances last night. But then again CC had a response for everything we tried
