  1. I remember that Frolik kid. He played for the Czech Rep in the WJT last year. Following that he played on a line with Jagr back home. Figured he'd be pegged for a first rounder. Great wheels, great skills.

Zach gets into a tussle late in tonight's game; looks like some bigger NJ guys came in to help him out.

I watched this game. Parise and Cory Sarich came together late in the game. Parise basically gave Sarich some wood to the face (which I applaud) and then Sarich popped him with a right. They then did the huggy bear dance while that little scumbag Sergei Brylin jumped in and later started kicking. Brylin got about 1/2 million pims for that one. I expect him to receive the same penalty Havlat received earlier for using his skates for something other than skating.

  3. In tonight's game, Parise barely avoided an attempt at a blind check by Peter Forsberg, which could have caused injury.  Zach was looking down ice for a pass, and looked ahead just in time to dive out of the way.  Forsberg still got a piece of him, but it could have been a lot worse.  It should have been an interference call as the puck was no where in sight, but it was Forsberg, so I'm sure the ref's looked the other way.

Earlier in the game, Forsberg had a chance at a goal from behind the net, but Zach boxed the puck inside him and Brodeur for a nice defensive play.  No goals, but good solid play from Parise.  He's had some scoring opportunities, but the Flyers have pretty much taken control of the game, 5-2, late in the game.

Methinks it was #11, Jon Sim, not Peter Forsberg. Sim was going in the forecheck and it is not apparent that he intended to make a dirty play. Keep your head up unless you want to end up like jellohead, Eric Lindros.

Flyers won and took over this game because they kept laying the body on the much smaller and weaker debby forwards from the half way point on. Gonna be a long year for the debbies. No Neids to skate their way out of trouble. No Stevens/Daneyko to tackles forecheckers.

  4. Red Wing is 100% correct. M.G. needs ice time. No purpose is served by having a prospect see 3-4 shifts per night or watch the games from the press box when he could be getting 20+mins in the A. Besides, defense is a difficult position for a young guy to learn in the NHL. It takes time.

  5. It is worth more than a chuckle, it is a pure gut buster. It is one of the most ridiculous quotes I have ever seen in hockey. Ruff must be getting senile. When I think of Vanek I think of "going through the motions" not "all around gifted."

These coaches will say anything to cater to their fan base and coddle their baby prospects.

  6. There is no reason he should not make the team, although the debbies just signed Pascal Rheaume today. Look at their centers. Besides Gomez and Parise they have nothing in terms of playmakers. Nothing. Brylin and Rasmussen bring nothing to the table.

BTW, that rangers team you saw out there last night might be the weakest team in the entire league. They have nothing. Even with Jagr and Kaspar in the lineup. Make it 8 consecutive seasons of missing the playoffs. LOL!

  7. I don't believe it is a blackout issue. Many of these games simply are not being televised anywhere. The Red Wings, Islanders and Rangers have been on a couple of times. Some of these games appear on the regional FOX networks and, as someone else said, if you receive those channels in the 620's you should get the games which are televised even if you do not have NHLCenterIce.

  8. Totally agree on live music over that piped in crap. As much as I love "Welcome To The Jungle" it has become as dated as Butch Goring's leather helmet. Enough already.

Let the band play whatever and whenever it wants.

  9. You will never meet a bigger debby hater than myself, but Emrick is not as bad a homer as some and the sport of hockey is perhaps more filled with homer announcers than any other sport. Still, Mike Emrick was the perfect choice.

Gary Thorne can now go caddy for Mario Lemiuex when he is not covering little league baseball.

  10. Let's also be thankful that hockey on this network will not be forced to take a back seat to basketball, poker and cheerleading contests. Also, we should be thankful they'll have Mike Emrick doing the games instead of Gary Thorne.

  11. PCM,

Not sure what to make of Potulny at this point. The Flyers are neck deep in centers right now. Forsberg, Primeau, Mikael Handzus, Jeff Carter and Mike Richards----even Patrick Sharp, who is a natural center, will play wing this year. They have R.J. Umberger, who played at Ohio State, was drafted #1 by Vancouver and neither they nor the Rangers could sign him; Umberger had a good year with the Phantoms and will most likely be ready before Potulny.

At least year's prospect camp everyone was saying that Potulny was the most impressive propsect...and that camp included Carter and Richards. R.P certainly came out of the gates last season at a pretty good pace but then slowed down considerably during the latter half of the season. So, I don't really know. He certainly appears to have the skills necessary, but whether or not he can elevate his game when the time comes is a question. I have no reason to believe the Flyers are rushing to sign him. If he makes it to the NHL I would think he is at least 2-3 years away at this point.

  12. Those espn hockey boys are definitely looking for jobs. Darren Pang has already signed on wit the yotes. I'm sure Melrose is also hoping for a call from Comcast. One would also think Clement is tired of being forced to call those dumb a$$$ Outdoor Games, log rolling, bb gun shooting, etc. Hockey is the only thing he knows.

  13. Just curious, are the announcers like Gary Thorne and Bill Clement going to move over to cover these games or does Comcast have their own people.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Clement is definitely lobbying for the job and is a very good color man. With any luck Mike Emrick will sign on as he is clearly the best in the business.

Also, with any luck left over, Gary Thorne will continue to cover Little League baseball and he will not be allowed to continue to refer to Donald Brashear as Jeremy Roenick nor will he be in a psoition to call Justin Williams "Jason" Williams every time he touches the puck. Thorne might be the worst I have ever heard.

  14. I've always puchased NHL CenterIce so I never really cared who carried the NHL. Plus, I go to my share of games in person.

There is no way OLN can do worse than ESPN. ESPN did NOTHING for the NHL. All they did was mock it and make fun of it. ESPN is a basketball network and is getting worse. They are becoming the sports version of MTV. Let them continue showing poker and bass fishing. Cheap to produce and morons watching it = money. Yeah, I know.

BTW, I believe the majority of NHL fans do not like Gray Thorne or that tool Melrose. Thorne routinely butchers players' names and Melrose does nothing but predict that the NYR will be in this years Cup Finals...what an idiot.

  15. However, the quality of officiating in the NHL is far superior than college.

I totally disagree with this statement. NHL on ice officials are easily the worst in any sport and at any level for that matter. Check out what kind of a promotion was recently given to a complete moron named Stephen Walkom.......perhaps the worst referee to ever hit the ice.

NHL officiating is quite simply atrocious. The whole two ref system has only succeeded in doubling the problem.

  16. There is a reason the yotes won only 22 games last year and it wasn't because of the coach. When Daymond Klang-kow is one of your top forwards then it really doesn't matter who is coaching.

Phx can bring in Imlach, Bowman, Gretzky, Lemieux, Richard, or Emelio Estevez and it's not gonna matter one bit.

    Their roster sucks.

  17. I've heard enough about the Great One's talent judging prowess to feel the need to say this:

There's little evidence in sport that great skills actually playing the sport make one a great coach or talent evaluator.  Many times an unskilled or lowly skilled player makes a great coach or talent evaluator.

Just because Gretzky was a phenom doesn't make him a better judge of talent than other GM's.  His track record makes or breaks him.  I don't follow NHL hockey closely enough to know what Gretzky's track record of drafting talent is, but others can fill me in there.  It's my impression that he hasn't yet distinguished himself from the crowd.  (If indeed he IS considered elite in this category, I retract my point!)

He was THE Great One as a player, but that doesn't make him The Great GM, yet.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Totally agree with this. While Gretzky is only a part owner of the team, the GM is some dude named Barnett (or something like that) one would think that he would have significant influence on personnel decisions. All I know is that some fool out in Phoenix is responsible for the Flyers getting Jeff Carter. Phx traded their 2003 first rounder to the Flyers for Daymond Langkow --- in Philly he was known as Klang-kow.

Dumb, dumb move on their part. Klangkow is nothing more than a 3rd liner, although in Phx he is getting lots of ice time.

In fact, it would't surprise me if Gretzky someday ends up in a NYR front office after he gets sick of losing in Phx. He can end up losing in NY --- they are all oilers-blueskirts inbreds anyway.

  18. As the biggest rangers hater in the universe I am pleased to hear this news. Montoya will do nothing at the NHL level, but this is typical of the average blueskirt as of late. No doubt they will throw him to the wolves right away and let him face 59 shots per night. Then, around mid-November, when the rangers have once again been eliminated from the playoffs for the 8th consecutive year, they will send him down to the woofpack and he will fade into obscurity. Then he will earn a living mowing JohnDavidson's lawn.

As someone else suggested, Dan Blackburn is finished. He hurt his shoulder during some weight lifting exercise.

  19. They just need to get rid of the GropoCop. Students know who I'm talking about. Seriously, nearly every student who has ever attended a hockey game could charge this lady with sexual harrasment. She either hates students, loves groping students or both.

Mafiaman or anyone else, have you ever been patted down by security at REA for a Sioux game? Everyone gets their bag searched it seems, but I haven't seen people other then students be patted down. I don't think it's a huge conspiracy. Just wondering. ;)

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

    Re: GropoCop.

I do believe I know exactly to whom you refer. This chick is notorious for being overtly sexual during the course of her duties. In fact, I know 4 guys who were team hosts at the WJT tournament who told me that she would routinely place herself in a position to be able to check out the players while they were walking around in the lockerooms w/o their breezers.

Seriously, she is a walking sexual harassment suit waiting to happen.
