  1. Hey to all the po' folk Sioux fans who are too broke to make the trip to St. Paul this weekend. Let's take Friday afternoon off of work and meet somewhere to watch the game. Where will you all be? Some suggestions: Joe Dimagio's (huge tv and tons of food), Dagwoods (lots of TV's and no smoke - good food too), BWW (good wings and lots of green beer and TV's). What do you suggest? Let's take over an establishment with our green jerseys, drink some green beer and cheer on the Sioux together!

  2. I'm not sure what you heard, but it's still 11-2 and Borque still has 5 goals. Yes, the Canadians went nuts again....they acted like the Stanley Cup made its way back to Canada.

oops - sorry. I read your post and then I heard Borque's goal. Your computer must be faster than mine. I am listening on RealPlayer with dial up internet and it cuts out every 15 seconds or so. Then when it returns it picks up right where it left on in mid-sentence. It's driving me nuts! It's now 12:30 AM and the US is going on a 2:45 power play. How far behind am I? It's time for me to go night night anyway - I have to be at work in 7 hours.

  3. It sounds as if Kessel is really putting on a show tonight. 5 assists. Borque has been the recipient of most of Kessels work with 5 goals.

    11-2 USA

Borque just got #6 - holy crap. Why couldn't he do that LAST year?? It's now 12-2 USA. When did Norway get the second goal? I missed that one. Did the Canadians go nuts on that one too - or have they all gone home?

  4. Doors will open at 5:00 or 5:30. We are still waiting for the coaches (Hakstol and Rivard) to tell us what their line up will be - which team goes first, etc. I'll try to remember to post it when they call me back.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Here is the skinny: Doors open at 4:30 - Women's team scrimmages at 5:00 - Men's team scrimmages at 6:00 - autograph session at 6:40 - prize drawings throughout the evening.

  5. Do you know what time?

    THANX!!

  6. I think they're both worth having. Say what you will about Virg Foss, but few people know more about Sioux hockey or write better about it.

I hope you can find a copy of Fight On Sioux if you decide to replace. I thought I'd lost mine several months ago and couldn't find a new copy anywhere in Grand Forks.

If you want the "75 Years of Fighting Sioux Hockey" they are selling that one right now at the REA pro shop for $1.00 !! That's right - just 1 measly dollar! They are in the middle of their May Madness sale. It started yesterday (May 5th) and goes through tomorrow (Saturday, May 7th) They had a whole stack of them today at Noon when I was there. Don't miss out - there was lot of others things yesterday - but it's going fast.

  7. Hello all.......Since I am a gopher faithful and I have a few inner connections within the NCAA I have obtained the 2005 AUTHENTIC FF patches from this years FF in OHIO. A few years back I also obtained the 2002 (St. Paul) and 2003 (Buffalo) patches as well.......They DO NOT sell these in stores or on-line......A LOT of people on the old POI.com and now GPL.com have purchased these patches from me and are ALWAYS very happy with them. They are NOT replica's they are the AUTHENTIC and are EXACTLY the same ones the teams in the finals have on their jerseys......

Price: $12.50 per patch or $25.00 for 2 patches

    E-mail me if interested

    Thanks!!

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I am interested in purchasing one (or more) - please e-mail me personally

  8. More random musings from Columbus...I swear, they were coming to me in my sleep!

PLUS-SIDE:  Stepping on the Al Pearson Special in Oakdale and having the person in the third seat I see on the bus blurt out "MAFIAMAN!".

DOWN-SIDE:  Stepping on the Al Pearson Special in Oakdale and having the person in the third seat I see on the bus blurt out "MAFIAMAN!".

PLUS-SIDE:  Tim (the name has NOT been changed to protect the innocent) from Grand Forks, upon finding out that I am MafiaMan:  "You're MafiaMan?  Wow.  I feel like I should have you sign my jersey or something.  I read you all the time...you're a legend!"

DOWN-SIDE:  Sadly, Tim was dropped off in Fargo, promptly placed in a straight-jacket, and transported to Jamestown for a psychological evaluation.  Get well soon, Tim!  We're all pulling for you.

PLUS-SIDE:  Building public relations w/the local girls in Columbus by chatting w/them about Sioux hockey history, the city of Columbus, and shopping for shoes.

DOWN-SIDE:  Seeing that good PR wrecked when "Finley Jeff" (again, the name has NOT been changed to protect the innocent) joins in and promptly asks me to help his chances with the ladies by informing them that he spent a few years in the National Hockey League.

PLUS-SIDE:  Finley Jeff, however, has heard so much about siouxsports.com, that he will no doubt head to Grand Forks today to buy himself a computer.

PLUS-SIDE:  Chatting w/another poster on the bus who tells me that Jim Dahl had some things to say about me.

DOWN-SIDE:  "That guy is obsessed with boobs."

PLUS-SIDE:  Our hotel being right across the street from The Platinum Fox.

DOWN-SIDE:  An apparent shortage of silicone and saline in Columbus.

    Now back to work!

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Good Morning MafiaMan! I can't believe we all made it to work this morning. FYI, quit bragging about making it to 9:00 church when the rest of us Al Pearson Fan Bus Grand Forks people were just pulling into GF at 1:40 AM. After I dropped off all of my "posse" I pulled into my driveway at 2:30 AM - to bed by 3:00 - too jacked up to sleep right away - FINALLY died at 3:30 - alarm went off at 6:45 and made it to work by 8:00. Funny thing tho - that was the most sleep in one night I have had since once week ago today! My eyes are not fully open and I have that "quivery" feeling all over my body - kind of like when you get off a cruise ship. It was great meeting you and it will take at least a week to re-tell (remember) all the Columbus stories. Thanks to the Sioux for a memorable season and thanks to all the Al Bus People for a memorable 5 days. See you all again in about 6 months!

  9. Go to the Frozen Four.  If your wife/kids are so dependent on you attending a normal school function just to be with them more (since this is even an issue I expect you already spend plenty of time with them) over something as big as the Sioux/Gopher Frozen Four...well...you gotta work on making them all a bit more independent.  I would be embarrassed if my dad had an opportunity to go to ANY Frozen Four and decided instead to attend a school play of mine.  And, hey, I turned out absolutely great!!!  ;)

    /go Sioux!!!!

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Thanks Sweeny - not that I needed an endorsement of what I am doing, but Hair ticked me off! Our family does most things together and yet we are all very independent of each other in our own "things". And by the way - I'm the kids mom, not dad! Does that make it worse???

  10. Your child is only a child once.  Years down the road, kids won't remember the gift you bought them or the money you gave them as "payoff", but they will remember you being there and supporting their interests and activities.  And you will be grateful that you went, or will kick yourself if you miss it (maybe not right away, but you will).  I speak from experience, remembering all my activities my own parents went to years ago.  And I see that in my own students that I teach today.

The Sioux will be in the Frozen Four again.  They were just there four years ago.  It's not like we go through decades-long droughts.

Things like this determine character.  And any person who would put hockey, or any sport or event, above family is someone that I want no part of.

I commend you, GBpakrzz, on your choice (as tough as it is).  You won't regret it.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Good heavens - chill man. My kid is a very well rounded, well adjusted kid and we have been to thousands (yes, thousands) of his things and his hockey games and his road trips, his scout outings, his church programs, yadda yadda. One missed school program won't send him screaming to therapy. If it was something really important I would not be missing it. We have an awesome relationship and do everything together - but he also knows I have a life and he encouraged me to go. He thinks the school play is stupid and would miss it himself if he could! And, yes it IS sometimes decades between trips to the Frozen Four. (1987 - 1997). And thanks for the character knock without even knowing me. Anyone who does that does not get a seat on the bus next to me!!!!!

  11. Are you out of your mind!;)? How many times does the Frozen Four come up with the Sioux in it? And how many times will it be the Sioux/Gopher matchup??? Could there even BE anything better than that??? I too am a parent and I am missing my son's 5th grade program on Thursday night. It's his last hurrah in his last year of grade school and he is totally fine with it. If you grow up in a hockey family you know what the Frozen Four means and the Sioux/Goofer matchup. I'm on the bus, Gus!!! We leave Wednesday morning at 6:00 AM!!! :0

  12. Does anyone know what the penalty box will be offering for the $5 per person? Is the $5 just to get in the door and if so will you be able to buy food and beer?  Will there be seating or is it SRO only?:)

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

We rec'd a flyer with our season tickets that advertises a "full night of sports". I believe it was for Both nights (Fri and Sat). It included admission to the Penalty Box which will be showing the Sioux/Maine matchup and I think a ticket to the women's volleyball game being played on one side in the Betty and a ticket to the women's hockey game playing on the other side in the main Ralph. Not a bad package. Sounds like you can go from one venue to the other and back and forth the whole night.

  13. It has got to be Rory. he is the best by far! plus he's a gritty 2-way forward.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I am surprised you didn't have Quinn, Rory or Colby in your choices. To lump them in the "other" category is a travisty! (or at least a faux pax)

  14. Hmmmmm...  perhaps Yooper can go on about more things to do here.  Thats the boy's stomping grounds.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I made that trip last season. Went on Al Pearson's fan bus. What a blast. We left at midnight on Thursday and drove all night. Pulled in to Houghton in the AM for breakfast - checked into the Best Western (where the team stays) then went to the rink to watch the Sioux practice. It is a nice hockey town. TONS of snow - lots of cute downtown shops - fun bars - a bazillion snowmobiles EVERYWHERE. If you are lucky enough to go there during their Winter Festival thing (not sure what it is called) that is something to see too. The bus took a day trip on Saturday - a real nice drive up the U.P. Tech's band was awesome - they liked the Sioux fans and came over to serenade us. Crowd was really small and the tickets are cheap. I believe Al is thinking of making that trip again this year - check it out!

  15. There are so many great Sioux players, current and former, it is hard to pick just a couple out.

    No real order.

#1) Zach Parise - You can't teach discipline, motivation and commitment like Zach

    possesses.

#2) Karl Goehring - Pound for pound the best player ever in a Sioux jersey.

#3) Dave Archibald - 540 career PIM at UND, enough said.

#4) Tony Hrkac - 1987 national championship and still playing pro hockey!

#5) Any Sioux player who has laid out a Golden Rodent on his a$$ after a somwhat clean hit!

    GO SIOUX!

it's JIM Archibald and he is/was the best Sioux hockey player ever! NO one will ever surpas that PIM - my hero - I still wear his game worn jersey to every game! :D

  16. Perhaps this is stating the obvious...but I will state it anyway.

A National Championship could build a whole bunch of instant credibility for Coach Hakstol et al. With the talent this "new staff" has, this would be a great season to capitalze on said talent and springboard into the next chapter of UND Hockey!

THE HAKSTOL ERA a.ka. THE HAK ATTACK!

    Good Luck Coach Hak!

Hak Attack - I like that!

  17. I have two game-worn old Sioux jerseys from the 80's. They are the green road jerseys. One is Jim Archibald's - he was my absolute all time favorite Sioux player. It is my pride and joy - I wear it to every Sioux game and I plan to be buried in it! I do love the new logo and I have one of those jerseys too - I wear that one during the day of game days, but the ole' autographed Archie jersey comes out for the games. When he was inducted into the Sioux Hall of Fame last year I had thoughts of retiring the jersey too (to preserve it) - but I can't seem to bring myself to pack it away.;)
