Do we have scholarship left i was going through player list i have 15 players or are we adding one for Leet. The list Borowicz, Manson, Gordon, Leet, Lane, Lane, Van Loo, Vander Wal, Anderson, Adams, Wallace, Sieben, Orth, Hoskin, and MCcarthy. This would give us 15 players for next year as i have figured unless i made mistake again.

    Not all are scholarship players.

it's all good, I knew what you were saying.  I agree she has shown she has D1 talent and would have been an asset with another D! program had she chosen that route.  My remarks were directed at the situation in general whether football, hockey, etc.

    Emma Anderson to Upper Iowa.

oxbow 6  good observation and i have been one asking for a point guard but current roster now stands with Borowicz, Manson, Wallace, Lane, Orth, Gordon, Sieben, Roach, Hoskin, Anderson, and  Mcarthy. I think this is correct that will leave us Leet, Lane, Van Loo., and Vander Wal.  If i am wrong please correct me but i was going through lists and this is what i came up but i may be wrong. I hadn't realized all the guards Bernhard had recruited until i started going through the lists. We won't have alot of depth at forward spot compared to the past years. We will be caring three centers Leet, Van Loo, and Vander Wal. With Lane being only power forward on the list. We will have to be looking at some of the above guards to play small forward. Compared to last year when we had Fleecs, Lane, Zander, and Jarnot . I am curious what here plan is and what style of game she is planning to play with the current make up this team.

Roach has another year of high school, so I think you have 12 scholarship players listed.

One would have to assume they will be playing at a faster pace and looking to push the ball.

One would also think that they will still be looking for a pg this year for sure and then best overall skill/bball IQ they can get to fill out the roster.

Does anybody know how many scholarships we have open to give this year because we have number of players left or quit this year. I got to believe we have to look at getting some experienced players back also in the mix with loss of Zander , Jarnot, Fleece, and Renke other wise we will putting large number of true freshman on the court next year.

Two sr scholarship athletes left. 4 players in transfer portal. Keplin quit?
3 scholarship freshmen coming in. Should leave 4?

Really not interested in a philosophy of "we know we are bad, but look how bad we could be".   We need a culture that makes people want to stick around.

I don't subscribe to that philosophy. Just want people to realize it's not just happening here so they don't lose hope.

Reality is everyone gets 1 free transfer. A lot are going to use it and no program is immune.
The average in men's ball right now is 3+ per school.

Women's is around 2 per school currently.

I wonder if it will slow down next year, after this crazy season of covid and the fact that it's a new rule?

I am glad to see that she is looking to upgrade us at point guard and video on her looks like she is really fast. She is on smaller side but quickness is just valuable asset especially at guard but time will only tell how this recruit works out but i do think this very positive move in right direction. I thought Bernhard recruited several girls last year but i guess their doing this from when she was full head coach. I wonder if she goes for more high school recruits or will she get some needs from the portal.

I'm guessing there are no 2021 high school grads left who could help a team. I also figure most portal gets will have 2 years left. So portal players this year but lots of spots for high school recruits in next couple years.

best player gone...it’s gonna get ugly before it gets pretty again. But that’s okay! As long as we move forward in the future. I wouldn’t expect too much out of next year.

Yeah, losing Fleecs is really gonna hurt but life goes on. Reinke seemed like quite the leader too and 4 assists a game is big..

Doesn't she already have a full contingent allowed by the NCAA?  Mo, Eves, Young- Director of Ops Morso?  I don't think she can have more than that by rule?  Maybe, I'm wrong.

Oh, you could be right. I'm not sure.

    Edit:
This article may explain it some.

When will she announce her staff? Or should we just assume she's keeping the same crew that Brew brought in?

I think she will keep who she has but I have a feeling that she may add another assistant.

I'm honestly a little surprised by the move, but lets rally around coach Bernhard and the team and hope that she is successful.

Like with the mens squad, I need to see how the roster shakes out before I predict how things go for 21-22.

Yes, could be lots of changes.

Hope it works for Mallory but I just can’t see the coaching instinct

she had some aweful decision making moments this year

I'm going to stay confident that she and her staff put in the work (film sessions, reflection and self assessment) and they learn from any situations they identify where they could have made different decisions.
It's when people think they know it all that you have more to worry about.
Anyone know where one can watch the press conference online?

I cant believe all the homers on this page.  Coach Bernard had a hand in recruiting these players.  She also had a year of coaching a team that pretty much was the same team as the previous year with another year of experience.  Yet the record was one of the worse records in UND history.  I am sure Coach is a good person and a great basketball legend at UND, but that doesn't mean she is a good coach.   UND needs to take this opportunity to get fresh blood in here to maybe have recruiting connections outside of this region.  If they don't take this opportunity for a fresh start this could hold us back years from progressing with the other schools in the summit league.

If you look at the experience between what Coach Kallhoff has done in his career compared to Coach Bernhard.  It shouldnt even be a close decision.  The only reason she gets this position is because she is a UND alum and (no offense here) female.    If you go by experience he gets the job.  She coached high school basketball, assistant coach at the school she played for.  Then one year as interim coach and ended up with one of the worst records in school history.

The head coach makes all recruiting decisions including who to talk to, who to offer, right down to how many days a staff can recruit.
Assistants can have a big impact on whether a kid comes to a school but they don’t decide who to recruit.

Know I am probably in the minority on this board, but would like to see what Coach Bernhard can do with a year of experience. Understand that the first year was not good, but it was an unusual year. Seems like the recruits she was able to get during the pandemic might fit needed roles in the roster.

    I agree.

I'm not sure how much better Coach Bernhard and her staff could have done with a roster leftover from Brew and with the injuries and illnesses. Brew did very little recruiting his last couple years and really handcuffed his assistants in their efforts. So, shorthanded to start and then playing with partial rosters all year is tough.

As you can see from Kalhoff's resume he is interested in climbing. The search would likely begin again before long.
