And the team with the player's rights has a lot of say in how long they play. Yes, the player has the ultimate decision, but the goal of these guys is to get to the NHL, and if the team that owns your rights is willing to give you that opportunity, it's one that the majority of guys will take. Not to mention the $$$ that's included. These guys play under NCAA guidelines, which means no money or gifts. The dollar signs look quite enticing, especially for kids so young. I always hope that players stay in college until they need to go to the next level to improve their game. I wasn't excited about ZPar leaving after two years, but in all reality, he had done pretty much all he could do at the college level, and making the jump to the AHL was the best choice for him to improve as a player. If he didn't play last year in the AHL, I don't think he would've been ready to play regularly for the Devils this season. Of course, with the team that the Devils have, maybe I'd be wrong

Here are the players that went to the orientation camp back in September. As you can see, the majority of the players are all NHLers. Forwards: Jason Blake, Dustin Brown, Erik Cole, Matt Cullen, Scott Gomez, Chris Higgins, Mike Knuble, Steve Konowalchuk, Richard Park, Mark Parrish, Brian Rolston, Doug Weight, Chris Drury, Brian Gionta, Bill Guerin, Jeff Halpern, Ryan Kesler, Ryan Malone, Mike Modano, Zach Parise, Keith Tkachuk. Defensemen: Hal Gill, Paul Martin, Brian Rafalski, Andy Roach, Ryan Suter, David Tanabe, Bryan Berard, Mark Eaton, Tim Gleason, Derian Hatcher, Jordan Leopold, John-Michael Liles, Aaron Miller, Brian Pothier. Goaltenders: Robert Esche, Ryan Miller, Ty Conklin, Rick DiPietro. -
I agree. Zach's role the entire season has been basically to screen the goalie in front of the net, or congest the middle as much as possible. As a rookie fighting to stay in the NHL, he's accepted his role, and shown the typical Parise work ethic that we saw for 2 years. He's been moved to about 4 or 5 different lines now, including Mogilny's. His role on that line was basically to distract the other players so Mogilny could get open to shoot the puck. It didn't work, so they moved him to a new line. Gomez has not played well at all this year, nor has Mogilny, yet the focus of the team seems to be on the two of them along with Gionta and Victor Kozlov. The best D-man they have is Richard Matvichuk, and he's definitely no Stevens or Neidermayer. I'm sure Zach will continue to do what is asked of him as he wants to play at this level. I think he's adjusted to the level of play, and is playing a lot more comfortably right now. However, look for it to be a long season for the Devils, and Parise most likely won't put up the numbers we all hoped to see.

Let's not start another one anytime soon!

Now we can celebrate the sweep along with Dagies 4,000 post, even though AZSioux wouldn't give us all door prizes. I thought this was the giving season

Nice win for the Sioux! Great weekend, much better outcome than last weekend!
-
I was just about to post that he's really played great this weekend.

Stafford scores shorthanded!!!
-
Oshie!!!! Hat trick!!!!
-
Oshie went for the hat trick, but couldn't get it off his stick!
-
Penalty on BSU. Let's go PP!
-
They were probably gazing into each other's eyes rather than watching play
-
Parise with two BIG saves!
-
Don't we all at times. To their credit, I watched it twice in full speed, and thought it was offsides too.
-
Smaby in the box for interference. Not what we needed Matt!
-
Watched the BSU goal on 1/4 time on DVR, and the puck had crossed the line completely before either BSU player touched the blue line.
-
Jarvis scores for BSU. 3-1. Let's go Sioux!
-
I couldn't find the score of the !#$* game!!!
-
Sometimes the junk goals get a player going though. Let's hope.
-
Still no door prizes for all of us???
-
Definitely a good period for the Sioux. Need to continue the intensity in the 3rd. Don't give them a chance to climb back into the game.
-
Bloom hits a post! Smaby clears out rebound.
-
Duncan takes a slashing penalty. Let's go PK.
-
Only 1 shot for Bemidji this period!
