This will likely be a tough weekend.  A split would not be ideal, but wouldn't be the end of the world either.  I am a little uneasy seeing all the line changes (some pretty wholesale) this late in the season.  Players need to get used to playing with their linemates.

On another note, I am pissed that it is on CBSSN.  I recently cut my cable and I haven't figured out how to stream CBSSN UND games.  Last time I couldn't figure it out before the game was half over, so I just listened on iHeart. GRRRR......  NCHC should NOT sell rights to CBSSN.

I have charter and do not have the package to watch CBSSN games either. But upgrade to one package higher and I'm able to watch the games. I just call the next day to cancel the package and it totals out to be $3.30 added on to my bill at the end of the month. I don't think CBSSN streams online I've tried it before.. So about a 1/3 of a beer at the Ralph for good coverage of the game ;-)

Simo has taken a few steps back this year.  We're talking about a guy who went 59 in 58 (28 goals) in the USHL.  He had 17 pts in 43 last year.  Something is going on there.  And the USHL is a MUCH tougher league than the NA.  Im all for Gornall playing and Simo sitting (as he's not producing) but it would be nice to get Simo going.  As a junior he should be hitting the stat sheet a bit harder.  I was projecting him as a guy that, at the very least, put up 20 points this year.

From what I hear, Simo is one of the best players in practice.  Scores all the time.

Yeah that's pretty impressive that's why I expected more from him it's one thing to be good in practice but another thing to actually do it in games. But a real question is do you think Simo would even be a factor for any other college team that is as high caliber as the Sioux? If he wasn't from grand forks I bet he wouldn't he'd maybe get a shot from his USHL career but other than that he'd be in the stands watching..

Some very thoughtful posts by the usually erudite and informed Sioux fan base.   The standard in the industry.

    My slightly more emotional take:

    MY MAN GORNALL

                v.

the whole dam wmu team and anyone else they want to put out there

Think how much more Gornall brings energy wise and production wise than someone like Simonson and with less playing time all year.. You can tell the team loves a guy like Gornall too. I'd take him in the lineup over Simo ANY DAY. He's had about a fourth of the playing time as Simo all year and has more goals than him already..

Good points on all. I just think putting Jost and Boeser back together could spark Brock. I also definitely see that having these two and Gersh together creates a lack of depth, for sure. That being said, I still say we give it a shot.

    This is how I'd go:

    Gersh Jost Boeser
    Pogo Gardner JJ
    Yon Bowen Gornall
    Smith Simo Olson

I like that lineup even though it'd be nice to spark Brock I just think him and Jost are both puck possession guys that might not compliment each other as we saw earlier in the year. I'd throw Pogo on that top line wing again since he can create opportunities and turnovers in the dirty areas for Gersich and Jost.

I agree this is a big weekend.  A sweep would set us up for possibly finishing with a very high seed, while anything less than a split probably knocks us off the bubble, at least for now.

However, as for the team making a run, I think all we have to do is get in.  At least half the team has got a bunch of NCAA tournament games under their belt.  Ending up in the same region as UMD would be tough, but any other draw does not scare me.  We can play and beat teams like Denver, MN, Harvard, etc..., especially in Fargo.

You can look back to a year like 2004-05.  We were 15-10-3 at the end of January (compared to 15-11-3 today).  We played about .500 hockey from there to the end of the regular season.  I think we even had a losing record in the regular season after Christmas that year.

But the team got on a bit of a roll in the first round against Duluth, finished 3rd in St. Paul, and rode the coattails of a strong WCHA into the tournament.  I see no reason why this team can't do the same.

To be honest I think if this team played UMD in regionals that UND would come out on top. It's tough to win 5 straight games against a team that is ranked in the top 15... Look what happened last year, we swept UMD twice and finally lost that 5th game at the NCHC frozen faceoff tournament.. which we all know the sioux don't fare well in that tournament. But again I wouldn't mind playing them at regions just for the reason that I think we wouldn't lose to them for a 5th time.

I really am disappointed that they keep putting Wolanin in.  Is there something I am missing here?  We have other D men that can play, right?

Why? Wolanin has the 2nd best plus minus behind Pooly for defenseman and he's a good power play guy and provides a lot of offense. Sure he'll turn it over once in awhile it's part of the game but this team needs as much offense as they can get and Wolanin needs to be in the lineup.
