Brad Berry at the Fargo booster meeting said that Ausmus was absolutely coming back. Said he was asking Gage if he had an idea if he was staying or lea....and Gage cut him off and said he is staying.

    That's why he's captain.

I think Dane Jackson is under appreciated. And I believe Hak wanted him in Philly, but he choose to stay.

What was the difference?  This year WE had the hot goalie who didn't give up anything easy.

Totally agree. Cam is MVP in my eyes. Yes we had guys that can bury the puck, but it's so much easier when you're playing with a lead, or a tie, and not playing catch up - and Cam provided that. He made many sick, crucial saves that could have changed momentum and maybe ND would have grab those sticks a little tighter. Instead he just demoralized the opponents.

Earlier today i was listening to the NCAA Midwest Regional preview show on Cincinnati's WKRP.

Les Nessman feels that Notre Dame, much like himself, is much maligned and isn't receiving the credit he deserves.  "Beware the sleeping dog," he mutters.  "It may be Good Friday but this clan of Catholics is capable of staying focused and taking it to their Ann Arbor rivals."

"Michigan's all class," Herb Tarlek retorts. "Their helmets are as tacky as my cheap suits but make no mistake, they are explosive and fiery. Their top line has a trio of Hobey Baker candidates and their coach has made a career out of making opposing teams see Red."

Venus Flytrap counters with the team that has all the style, flash, and exuberance of a winner. "Northeastern is where it's at," he coolly noted. "After humble beginnings the downtrodden have risen to the pinnacle of the sport. Their howl is fierce and there ain't nothin' slowing this team down."

And finally Dr. Johnny Fever chimes in, singing the praises of the #1 Seed, North Dakota. "As sure as turkeys can fly, this team can dominate this tournament," Fever confidently proclaimed. "I've seen them rise to the Head of the Class - and I should know a thing or two about that. I know they wanted to go to St. Paul but this team's getting kind of tired of packin' and unpackin', from town to town, up and down the dial.  Maybe UND was never meant to be....ah heck, just call it a Frozen Four once more."

Then Jennifer Marlow walked in and no one cared about hockey anymore.

That is awesome, well played. But I was more of a Bailey Quarters guy...

  5. I say this in complete seriousness, I feel bad for you guys.  For being a small school your nickname was very well known nationally.  I can't imagine how tough this would be if it happened to my favorite school.  I guess the silver lining for you guys is that this process is finally over after all these years of controversy.  I don't think that's a small thing.  Time to move on.

But I do have to say that Golden Gophers is one of the great unique college nicknames out there! ;)

He's right. We just went from a nationally known iconic name to a generic piece of...

You may make fun of Gophers, but when you hear it you know right away it's Minnesota. You hear Hawks and right away you say... which one?

  6. Why should I vote when I can't stand either option? If I had to vote, I would vote FH. I went to RR and having the same name is just plain stupid IMO.

I went to RR and could care less. Nobody outside GF cares - and many inside don't. Remember this is a name that will be projected worldwide, and nobody outside GF and certainly ND knows or cares. And I apologize to everyone for repeating the same stuff - were all repeating the same stuff - what a cluster **** this whole thing has been.

  7. I've always wondered how it was determined that "FIghting Hawks" fit the original criteria that was laid out for the committee and how not one person on the committee ever asked that question.

This got my curiosity going, so I'm posting the original criteria just for kicks...

1)Be unique, recognizable, inspiring and distinctly UND
    2)Promote a sense of pride,strength, fierceness, andpassion
3)Be representative of the state and region in a way that honors the traditions & heritage of the past but also looks to the future
    4)Be a unifying & rallying symbol
    5)Ease of Depicting/Personifying Physical Mascot
    6)Cheer/Battle Cry Considerations
    7)Meaning of Nickname
    8)Linguistic Considerations: Pronounciation
9)Linguistic Considerations: Likelihood of name being abridged resulting indifferent name or name similar to existing name

  9. If other people think less of our school because our sports teams are called nodaks or Roughrider or Hawks, that is there prerogative. I don't think less of Missouri cause their school has a lame Tigers name or less of Delaware cause they have a weird blue hen name. Anyone who does is small minded and really shouldn't effect our choice.

I think it's important to look at this from a business prospective. UND is a big business. It is a major employer and revenue generator for ND. Consequently this is an important marketing, advertising and PR decision.

If someone from Missouri likes, hates or cares less for our name - fine, but every institution, business, etc. worth a damn cares deeply about their brand and the image it projects. Millions of $$$ are spent each year on logo designs for good reason.

I would go on about why I think RR is best for this, but were all just repeating ourselves now...

  10. The problem is I couldn't care less what other schools think of our name. If we care wwhat they think why not let them vote on our name.

I care deeply what other schools think of our name, and our state. A big reason why I feel so strongly about this. UND is ND flagship institution, it projects an image to the county and the world (yes it has international reach). I certainly want the best image and logo projected to attract students, athletes, teachers, etc. and help UND and ND become even better.

  11. If the Nodak camp (and SunDogs and North Stars too!) would rally around RR, I think RR would prevail over FH.

I know they may not like that, and may ask why can't RR people back NoDaks. And the answer is RR was 2nd, Nodak was 3rd.

The RR and Nodak camps think alike. They both want a nickname with SOME imagination, uniqueness and flair, and cringe at ending up with a nickname completely, utterly BORING and totally FORGETFUL.

So I am respectfully asking, pleading, begging the Nodak camp (and others!) to please back RR.

  12. I'm still going Nodaks. If there is a second runoff vote, then I will vote Nodaks 1st and Roughriders 2nd. Anything but Fighting Hawks

IF there is a second runoff vote.... That's a big if. Voters need to rally around RR, the 2nd leading vote getter, or it will be FH... forever!

And you will never hear me cheer 'Lets go Hawks'. Does that make me a bad supporter? Probably. But Hawks is just sooooo lame.

  13.

Fans could shout Fighting Sioux, when Announcer says Fighting Hawks.

What a horrible reason to pick FH. So anytime someone says 'hawks' were suppose to yell Sioux? How long will that good times last? As time passes this impulse to yell 'Sioux' will fade - sorry to say. But that bland, unimaginative name will still remain. Remember, this decision is forever (theoretically)

  14. Image result for dog and pony show

I propose a new nickname, the 'University of North Dakota Dog & Ponies'.

This is insulting. The first big ELEPHANT in the room that this process is a joke was the inclusion of SunDogs in the final 5 - which had a snowball chance of winning, just pacifies a certain interest group. Next ELEPHANT not including what the MAJORITY wants, i.e just 'North Dakota'. But I went along hoping there was some integrity in the process - I was wrong.

The committee/process/'leadership' (big italics) is putting on a big charade - they DO NOT CARE what the majority wants - only what they perceive as 'best'

OK - FINE! Then they should have have just formed a select committee and announced their decision and SPARE us this discourteous farce.

  15. You got me, I guess if RR's won all that "stereotyping" would go away? Lol...come on, you people have to stop acting like you're talking to children!

Talking to children? Not sure what thats suppose to mean, settle down Francis. Just expressing that any of the other names, including the dreaded Sundogs, give more of an opportunity to shape an image other than ND as a hick farm state. I'm proud to be from ND, but sorry that's what most people think when they think of ND.

  16. How can any of you believe that if Nodaks wins that the logo will be a bib wearing hik?! Nice scare tactic!

    Go Fighting Nodaks!

That's the reality. That's what most people think, especially outside of ND - That ND is a hick state with nothing but farmers. If you want to facilitate that stereotype by choosing NoDak as the face of your states flagship institution then by all means, vote for it.
