star2city
Houston Chronicle: HBU making move to NCAA Division I Since Houston Baptist U is moving from NAIA to the NCAA, their initial transition will be longer (7 yrs vs 5 yrs for UND). They may be a school on UND's basketball schedule in 2008-9. (As well as NJIT, Longwood, CSU-Bakersfield, Chicago St., Utah Valley, Seattle U (?), USD). HBU was a member of the NCAA from 1967-90, competing at the Division I level for all but six years of that span. HBU currently competes in seven sports
MplsBison
I think I saw somewhere that UT Brownsville (same conference as HBU) was also thinking DI. I wonder how much longer the NAIA has? 10 years before every school is a member of the NCAA?? As far as HBU goes, adding M/W xcountry, indoor track, outdoor track, and golf would be an easy and cheap way to get to 15 sports.
Bison101
The NAIA is tost. It might take 15 years but the NCAA has the money and the power. The speculation of what would happen could be a whole new thread.
