JESUS,family, rutgers Posted July 31, 2005 Posted July 31, 2005 Hello Big, you might not even remember the league, but about five years ago there was another pro football league called the xfl. I think it was run by the pro wrestling guy--vince mcmahon? One of the teams played at The Meadowlands up in northern New Jersey and they were called the New York/New Jersey Hitmen. Nobody went to the games or watched on tv because the level of play was terrible and the players were the ones left after the nfl,cfl,nfl-europe, and the arena league were done signing guys. It folded after one season. Quote

I just thought that McMahon and NBC was trying to do too much too soon with that league. In truth, they probably shouldn't have given the league a year to play before they put it on TV, and given the teams a chance to build up more of a local fan base. NBC just put too much pressure on the League to be a top draw right away. It was a Minor league to begin with, how many Minor league Baseball, Hockey, or basketball teams get played across the nation? Quote
