The 30th anniversary season of the Eddie Robinson Award features 15 finalists for FCS Coach of the Year. Quote The list includes at least one representative from all 13 FCS conferences. jdub27 Posted November 15, 2016 Author Share Posted November 15, 2016 Root Sports Big Sky Defensive Player of the week: Sept 5 Quote DEFENSE - Cole Reyes, S, North Dakota Some players are so dominant, their performance has to be recognized, regardless of whether their team won or lost. The North Dakota Fighting Hawks fell to the Stony Brook Seawolves, 13-9, but safety Cole Reyes dominated the field. Reyes made eight tackles, with two tackles for loss and a sack. He also recovered two fumbles, and forced another. On top of it all, he had a safety in the third quarter that helped UND take a 9-7 lead. Root Sports Big Sky Co-Defensive Player of the week: Sept 19 Quote DEFENSE - Deion Harris, North DakotaNorth Dakota was locked in a battle with South Dakota, trailing 34-27 late. However, that was until Deion Harris stepping in front of a ball for the second consecutive week, taking the interception to the house for the second consecutive week. The Fighting Hawks would go on to win in double overtime, 47-44. Root Sports Big Sky Offensive Player of the week: Sept 26 Quote OFFENSE - Brady Olivera, North DakotaNorth Dakota scored a 17-15 victory over Montana State, to open conference play, and Oliveira played a large role in the Fighting Hawks win. Oliveira rushed for a career-high 171 yards, and had his first multi-touchdown game. The running back’s second touchdown proved to be the game-winning score, as his career-long, 60-yard touchdown run gave North Dakota a 17-9 lead. In a random statistical note, Oliveira’s three career touchdowns have all come against Montana State, and he’s had two one-hundred yard rushing performances, both against the Bobcats. Root Sports Big Sky Offensive Player of the week: Oct 17 Quote OFFENSE - Keaton Studsrud, North DakotaStudsrud led North Dakota to a 45-23 Homecoming victory over Southern Utah, going 20-of-27 through the air. The junior quarterback threw for 282 yards and four touchdowns, with no interceptions. Studsrud utilized seven different receivers, with all of his touchdowns going to different receivers. The Fighting Hawks quarterback also added 18 rushing yards to register 300 yards of total offense for the first time in his career. He threw a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns, breaking open a one-score game. Root Sports Big Sky Defensive Player of the week: Oct 31 Quote DEFENSE - Cole Reyes, North DakotaA player returning from injury can have a big impact on a program, and no program appreciated the return of a player more than the return of Fighting Hawks safety Cole Reyes for North Dakota. Reyes made a pair of second-half interceptions against the Weber State Wildcats, leading the program to a 27-19 win over Weber State. With UND holding a narrow 14-13 lead in the third quarter, Reyes returned a pick 24 yards, setting up a score. Then, with the Wildcats down 24-19 and driving, the senior made a diving interception that led to a field goal for the Fighting Hawks. Root Sports Big Sky Special Team Player of the week: Oct 31 Quote SPECIAL TEAMS - John Santiago, North DakotaNorth Dakota running back John Santiago demonstrated his versatility, returning the opening kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown. Santiago’s score would prove to be the only touchdown of the first half for North Dakota, before going on a 20-6 run in the second half to get the win over Weber State.
