Here are the first regional rankings of the season:

women's:

North Central

How the heck are UNO and Mankato not ranked ahead of SDSU. I can see the Bison not above them yet, but to me that is pretty ridiculous-similar record, 2 games on top in the conference race, NOT having a 3 game losing streak. Really weird.

I agree. I half expected to see USD ranked too despite their long NCC losing streak which now stands at nine. Has Boots lost it? They returned virtually their entire team and were picked high in the national polls, but they are really struggling. If the NCAA hadn't gifted King another semester of eligibility, they would be even worse.

So the regional rankings are pretty much a regional RPI. It brings up the question, if the NCAA uses this forumla to create the regional rankings, why not do away with the D2 top 25 poll and put out a top 25 using the same formula. The 2 different "polls" have to contracict themselves in their rankings. It is the NCAA, though, so it the obvious and simple way out cannot be taken.
