  1. I know it's been listed before, but flipping through center ice last night to watch all the Sioux playing made me remember how good this program is and how lucky we have been to be able to watch so many terrific players (and yes, I know that all of them aren't in the line-up everynight)

    Buffalo - Drew Stafford

    Calgary - David Hale

    Carolina - Ryan Bayda

    Chicago - Jonny Toews

    Edmonton - Matt Greene

    Nashville - Brandon Bochenski

New Jersey - Zach Parise, Travis Zajac

Ottawa - Mike Commodore, Brian Lee

    Phoenix - Matt Jones

    St. Louis - Ryan Johnson

    Tampa Bay - Matt Smaby

    Toronto - Jason Blake

  2. So with Lapoint not being healthy who is the 7th defence to go on the trip. Also who do they take avidson or Forney for the extra forward?? I think it will probably be Davidson cause he dressed for pregame warmups last weekend when Bina had the flu. Radke would have moved back to D and he would have gone in the 4th line fwd

I'm not absolutely positive, but if I'm remembering correctly everybody goes on the trip and then Hak makes the decision gameday.

  3. He's not making excuses, just stating fact. The Gophers got a combined 13 points from Stoa and Okposo this year when they were expecting about 80 points between the two. Stoa played in less than two games and was a first line team captain. Most teams haven't had to deal with that this year and NO teams have had to deal with losing another first liner to an early departure mid-season.

Brock Trotter wasn't a first liner? :D Seems to me he was their point leader when he left and also a month after he left. Between Trotter leaving and Raukshani (sp) out with injury, Denver had just as rough a time.

  4. I hope LaPoint is ok, I was watching when he took that hit and he went pretty hard into the boards, and came up a little shaky. Does anyone remember if there was a call on that hit? Boarding maybe, i know there was no cfb?

Hak took a swipe at that in the coaches show.

    On injuries:

The biggest question mark is Derrick LaPoint. The hit from behind that he took gave him post-concussion syndrome. That was from a two-minute penalty.

  5. I really don't know what to think re the DU/Wisco game.

    - Will Wisco be so "delighted" just to be there they play great - or play average, just glad to have made the dance.

    - Will Wisco still be pissed about the "no goal" that may have cost them home ice for the first round - or did they get that out of their system with the 7-2 thumping the next night.

    - Will the "home" fans be a factor and "spur" Bucky on - or are they all watching bouncy ball

    - And will any of the above be enough to get past Denver. Notice how I think the outcome is all dependent on how Wisco plays and not on how Denver plays - I think Denver's play over the last couple of weeks has gotten them back on track and they will play hard regardless.

  6. I think part of it for me is the "national" press who can't seem to look past a win/loss record or the # of points a player has and actually "look" at the competition being played against. While I think Porter is good (VERY GOOD), I have to wonder what his point total would look like (and the team's record) playing against the likes JPL, Bachman, Manino, Kangas (of late), Weslaski, Stalock, Tesleck, etc. night in and night out. I'm sure he would still be one of the top (if not the top), but I don't think he would be as dominant as he is in the CCHA. I also don't think Michigan would have the record they have getting constantly beat up in the WCHA (and I would bet money that Miami would be middle of the pack).

  7. I thought Hak said he put Koz on the third line to try and jump-start the offense on that line, not because he wasn't producing on the first line, that just wouldn't make any sense. Like I said before, he was the leading goal scorer until he was moved back to the third line.

Nope - it was because Andrew wasn't "producing" on the top line - apparently he hadn't had a shot on goal in 2-3 games.

  8. I will admit that Miller has stepped up his game lately, but I like Kozek's physical presence along with Oshie and Duncan. I think Kozek is the best fit with those two, Miller is doing ok, but seems to shy away from physical contact, and the other two seem to use their physical nature to help their game. I will again defer to Hak, but I thought that Kozek is better served playing on the 1st line, and could do the most good for the team. The question also remains, if Trupp is ready to go this weekend, who sits??

Just to keep this thread off topic :silly: , Hak said during one of the pre or post game interviews during the St. Cloud series that he had moved Kozek to the 3rd line cause he wasn't producing the way he thought he should - not getting enough shot on goal and then he went out and got 5 shots on goal that night - nothing to show for it.

I trust Hak, however, it seems to me that Kozek's role on that line would be to create space for TJ and Duncs (Miller is not as physical a player and has a hard time doing this) and if he has the opportunity to shoot, go for it, but pure offense from him on that line maybe shouldn't be the goal (pun intended).

  9. I am not a gopher fan, but I would REALLY love it if they beat both BC and Miami. BC is and always has been way too arrogant when it comes to WCHA teams and needs a put-down by a WCHA team and Miami is just irritatingly overrated - again, they need a put-down by a WCHA team.

  10. Don't know if this was posted earlier, but a nice piece on Jonny on NHL.com.

Toews, a hard-as-nails center and leader beyond his years, was the third overall pick in the 2006 Entry Draft. Kane, a smallish right wing with a flair for creating with and without the puck, was the first overall pick last June. Both possess a vision and sense of seeing the play develop in front of them. From there, they are smart enough to read off one another the way Savard did for so many years with Steve Larmer.

Toews is from Winnipeg, went to Shattuck-St. Mary's, the successful prep program in Minnesota, and then had two great seasons at the University of North Dakota.

The team looked lost when Toews missed 16 games with a knee injury suffered Jan. 1. When he returned on Feb. 10, everything on the team improved.

"There is a different aura about this team when he's in the lineup," Blackhawks General Manager Dale Tallon said of Toews. "He goes so hard even in the pregame skate sometimes, Savvy has to say; 'Slow down, kid!'"

While Toews is a future captain, Kane is the team's heartbeat.

Also a nice little blurb on Ryan Johnson.

St. Louis -- Blues center Ryan Johnson leads the League's forwards with 97 blocked shots, 26 more than second-place Chris Drury. ...
  11. So - start calling/emailing Midcontinent right now to pick up ESPNU - I know that they probably wouldn't be able to get it set up by this weekend, but we should let them know this is important to the hockey fans in the area - and there are A LOT of us.

  12. While I'm not thrilled with having 3 WCHA teams in the same bracket, this region isn't looking as bad after a little thought as it first did to me. Princeton doesn't play on olympic ice (don't know if they've had any games on big ice this year) and with the ability of the Sioux to practice on the big sheet during the week it lends a slight advantage.

Whoever comes out of the Wisco/Denver game is a known poison so the prep time for this week can be spent first on Princeton and then fixing any errors from earlier in the season and refining the strategies used against Wisco/Denver.

  13. Got to witness some classy goofer fans attempt to burn a Sioux t-shirt that they had bought in the arena (still had the tags on it) yesterday during the 2nd intermission when I was out for a smoke. They failed...it wouldn't burn, apparently security pulled their tickets and kicked them out.

This shouldn't surprise you - this is the same fan base that tried to burn their OWN campus down after they won the NC.
