actually women teams get paid less then mens teams...smaller handle less pay....still good to get the games. Idaho st. mens team getting 85K to play at Wisc. UND would need to sell out at over 25 bucks a head to gross 85k.. What does UND offer D1teams ...10k? to play at Betty. They probably pay the little sisters of the poor caliber teams 5k to play. Surprised UND mens team did not get more D1 road/money games on the schedule this year.... Should have been able to get a home and home with South Dakota which is playing 4 OOC games vs Big Sky Teams

UND hoops is a way far away distant 2nd place for sports dollars and interest in GF...South Dakota St puts their winter sports mula into hoops... 6500 seat arena....way more capacity for revenue, they pay their coaches way more. SDSU hoops is the big show there like Hockey is in GF. and they got the MOJO going with Nate Wolters and have kept it up.

There was a point in time when basketball was a bigger deal than Hocley and this is when UND was D1 in hockey and D2 in basketball. If UND basketball ever can make multiple trips to the dance maybe even sneek out a win I could see the Betty selling out quite frequently.
You make it seem like this is an awful basketball market and awful place to coach basketball. If funded properly and with some success I think we could be a great mid major. Look at how Bubba uses that hockey support and embraces it to try and get fans to his games. You can either make excuses or find the positives at UND and make them work to your advantage. Plenty of potential for UND hoops in both program growth and fan interest moving forward.
times change UND is a hockey school period!...never said awful...every big sky school has fans who think they have potential to be great... UND fans should count their blessings they have a nice Big Sky Hoops program and this year is UND best chance ever for a NCAA bid ...To compete with Weber and Montana year in and year out they need to bring in more stud recruits to Grand Forks ...easier said than done

people forget that UND has a hockey team that happens to dominate the Grand Forks area fan sports winter budget....NDSU basketball is the top sports show by far in fargo....You could have coach K here and hoops would still be secon fiddle to hockey....amen

As for comparing it to football, talk about comparing apples and oranges. You can't be serious trying to compare the two? That is absolutely ridiculous on about 10 different levels. Look at any D1 basketball schedule in the nation, including P5 schools. UNC plays something called Fuilford. Duke plays Virginia State and Augustana (SD). They all have non-D1 schools on there. At least one if not two of these games are usually exhibition(which of course aren't allowed in football), give a cheap home game and give coaches a chance to look at a lot of different things. The other ones are a cost/benefit on going on the road for a money away game (which may be a breakeven scenario at best) or giving your fans and players a home game, even if it is against a lower level opponent.
You are 100% correct ...some folks are unable to understand the inner workings of running a lower level D1 hoops program. It is about money! the vast majority of lower D1 programs use finance based scheduling...UND likely netted more money playing at Wisky last season than they did for any home game. The usual culprit comes in here and trolls about something he has less than one iota of knowledge about...

UND has one scholarship open for 17/18 season they have like 24 offers out...Jones and his staff are on thin ice as evidenced by the fact none of them are under contract for the 2017/18 season , that kind of puts the kibosh on recruiting. That being said I find it odd that they continue to offer guards ( when they need to shore up front court) and are offering kid with zero competing D1 offers. Better to be picky with last offer rather than adding another long shot prospect

They already have 1 of the 2 spots filled to replace Baldwin and Hooker (Moody) and will likely have the other locked up before the season starts. It is replacing the 4 juniors on scholarship that will be the near impossible task without at least some sort of token extension.
by March I was referring prior to their senior year beginning...also a new coach will have full aau open periods to recruit..this is when players and coaches get down to business. When you get kids with 0-2 other D1 offers junior year contacts are of modest...Moody does not know who is HC will be when he arrives...as Jones has no contract for 17-18
