I don't think a UND coach would ever miss the Frozen Four his first 9 years.
He'd be run out of town before then.
Bjorkman got 10 years haha. But in general you are probably right. But the coach following what Gwozdecky restored probably wouldn't get 9 years either.
Gwozdecky had to rebuild that program. Denver made the national tournament one time between Murray Armstrong and Gwozdecky and that was 9 years before Gwozdecky. UND made it 6 times in the same time span. They won 20+ games in 7 of 17 years. UND won 20+ in 13 of 17. You get a longer leash when you're taking over for an average program.
By the way, I would take Hakstol's stretch as well. I'd prefer Gwozdecky's results to Hakstol's but that is nothing against Hakstol.

Man, it took you guys less than two weeks to get back to the scintillating topic of "nattys" vs sustained success without winning the single-elimination tourney at the end of the year. I miss the days when sports weren't over-analyzed to !@#$ and everyone wasn't a freakin' genius.
Don't even have gfhockey to blame this time, nicely done team.
I think these forums (and the discussion herein) have jumped the shark. Too bad really, this place used to be sweet.
I'm unsure what you expect but, if you don't want to over-analyze sports then you are in the wrong place. Fans on a fan forum are going to discuss the team they are a fan of in depth. What do you expect to be talked about on the UND hockey forum?
Plus if you aren't interested in what is being talked about then don't read it. It's easy enough to avoid the topic instead of posting a get off my lawn type comment.

Gwoz was a great coach and the reason I think he is taking his time getting back into the college ranks is due to him being selective (as he has every right to do so). He was basically ran out of Denver by some uneducated AD that thought she knew better.
I think he's done. He will be 63 in July and has already accomplished about all he can in college hockey.

I wouldn't say the other team was the better team in any of those games. All Michigan had to do was play deffence and Hak didn't want to stop doing the dump and chase even thought it clearly wasn't working. Minnesota beat us cuz the Sioux decided the period was over for those .6 seconds. And I'm not going to say BU was the better team last year. And Denver this year, it's pretty hard to get the puck out of the zone when the team is doing everything in there power to keep it in including things that shouldv been called but were "missed". And Quinnipiac hadnt played a team like the Sioux the whole year. So I'm not going to say any of those teams were the better teams because I don't thing they were. This year was for the SIOUX and they proved it, plain and simple!
I didn't say Denver was better than us. They were as good as us, evidenced by their 2-3-1 record against us. Either team could have won that game. I also did not say Michigan was the better team. I actually said that we were definitely the better team. I said that their goalie was the reason they won the game. But I don't really recall any lucky bounces in that game. And if you think we were as good of a team as Minnesota the year we played them in Philadelphia, then you having the greenest tinted glasses I've ever seen. Minnesota beat us because they were undoubtedly better than we were. BU you could go either way. I think they were better than us but I can see people thinking we were the better team.

I'm only keeping track of my own score. I match up with you for my team.

He was better than BUs goalie last year.
That's kind of like being the taller midget

Gartig was not that bad. Also, I'm not sure id say BU was the better team. They only beat us because of Zane that night.
The only thing he did well in that game was dive.

Including the games up to this point today, I have 29 points.

true, bit don't forget that Shayne was a third rounder. He wasn't completely forgotten about. He played u20 as well.
I didn't realize that. Was he drafted before or after going to Union?

Nobody wanted that Shayne Gostisbehere guy either - except Union College. That worked out pretty good for them.
True but Greenwood also has size as a defenseman and an older brother that is an NHL draft pick. Gostisbehere may have slipped through the cracks, but this kid won't.

It blows my mind how people forgot that we needed a miracle to even be in the tournament that year, let alone get to the Frozen Four. Then on top of it, we gave the season long #1 team in the country a serious run for their money. With them only beating us off a fluke goal with .6 remaining.
Definitely the best game that group played the entire season.

oh.....yeah. My comment was more wishful thinking. He'll end up out east. He's really good.
I'd like to have him as well. Would definitely be a recruiting coup.

Drake is going to put on a fake mustache and return as Blake Caligula!
As awesome as that would be, no.
Damn! Well whomever it is, that is great news. Any player coming is a nice player to have back.

You say that like it is a bad thing haha

Unless North Dakota loses, then it's "the underdogs always get the lucky bounces against us!"
I can say I wouldn't have said that. If we lost to Denver on Thursday it would not have been because of puck luck. They played well enough to beat us. If we would have lost on Saturday to QU, then I would have put that partially on puck luck. I wouldn't say we were without a doubt better than QU for the season, but we definitely were on Saturday. Sounds like QU didn't play as well as they could have and their best player was seriously injured. We played just about as well as we did all season. We may have played slightly better against Denver in December and in the regionals than we did at the Frozen Four, but we played great last week.
When we lost to BU last year, we lost to the better team in my opinion. Didn't help that Zane had what may have been the worst game of his career but BU was really good. We lost to the better team in Philadelphia when we lost to Minnesota. We had the puck luck to even get there. We were without a doubt the better team against Michigan in 2011, but their goalie played great. That happens in hockey. So I guess we could say we were lucky that Garteig was a terrible floppy fish this year and we were unlucky that Hunwick stood on his head.

huh?
If BU wants him he will be there, no if, ands, or buts. If they don't want him, maybe that is a sign he isn't good enough to play at UND. Again, I've never seen him play, but if he is as good as it sounds like he is, then he will be playing in a red and white BU sweater.
-
Kind of crazy that Gage and Hrynkiw might be the only seniors on next year's roster. And the team is still set up to pretty dang good, especially if Schmaltz comes back.
-
Someone asked earlier about how long it usually takes for players to say if they are leaving or not. I believe Jordan Schmaltz was the last UND player to make a decision last year and that was the last week of May.

Bubs needs to scoop this kid up soon.
I read an article about him earlier this year and it basically said that if BU offers, he will sign there in a second. If BU doesn't offer, that might be a sign that UND shouldn't want him. I have never seen the kid play but it sounds like if he was good enough to be at UND then he will be playing for BU.

I've got a twelver riding on the Stars against my neighbor...gotta like my chances now.
Your neighbor must be a huge homer. Minnesota was a bad team before losing Parise. Without the loser point, they would be tied with Buffalo this season.

Isn't Stamkos out?
I noticed that afterwards but figured I couldn't make a change so I left it. If I can switch I'll take Tavares to replace Stamkos.

Fair enough. And a lot of it is rehashed and old but it can be interesting every now and then. I usually skip over them as well though. I think the inside info and funny lines and good analysis still far outweighs the negatives. So I still enjoy reading here.
I probably came off as a prick in my comment, but I kind of intended to because I read your other post as being condescending. Good response, obviously thoroughly thought about, and it makes sense. Peace, and go Sox.
