  1. I'm not sure what I need to explain since my post quite clearly detailed the ten titles in the past fourteen years won by schools NOT named Boston College...what's not clear?

Nothing - I just don't see as much parity as you apparently do based on one team winning a NT 4 times in 14 years. I think they have pretty much established that they are a notch above everybody else - clear?

  2. You're right - he is entitled to his own opinions. However, if all you're going to do on this site is come on and post:

And frankly - I don't care whether you think I add anything or not, I'm here to stay. You don't like - you leave!

Agreed, but the post that prompted the go away response said nothing about firing anybody, it was simply fairly accurate statements regarding what type of seasons the Sioux tend to memorialize.

You're not adding anything to the conversation. Please go away.

  4. Here's a couple of facts for you, gfhockey...

BC has won 4 of the last 14 titles, but EIGHT different schools have won the remaining TEN titles

FIVE DIFFERENT schools from ONE CONFERENCE have at least one title during that 14 year span

If that's not parity, I don't know what is.

I take it you mean besides BC. One NT every 3.5 years on average does seem like parity to me. I would have been happy with 1 in the last 10. How about you.

  5. Can't you just go away?

First, gfhockey, doesn't have to go away. We are all entitled to our own opinion, even if you don't like it.

Second, I don't think anything he said in his post that prompted you to tell him to go away was in any way inaccurate, so why do you object to those statements?

  6. I guess my point is that this thread or the game-day thread tend to blow-up with anti-Hakstol comments after ANY loss, regardless of whether it would be an NCAA Frozen Four loss or a mid-season exhibition game defeat. I would agree in your assertion that this place will absolutely nuke itself if this season should end with anything other than a national championship game victory.

I got ya - my bad, because I agree with you that it is absolutely amazing how much chatter results on this thread based solely on the result of a single Friday or Saturday night game, not to mention a full weekend. It's crazy.

  7. REALLY? How about you scroll back a few pages and take a look at the blow-up after a holiday exhibition loss to a Canadian school and then let me know your thoughts.

OK, I did as you suggested and my thoughts haven't changed. I believe Goon said "sweep this past weekend and this thread died". I just didn't believe (and still don't) that this thread would die based on last weekends sweep. I guess the 13 or so additional posts since Goon's are further evidence of that. Just my opinion, I'm sorry you didn't like it. But we are all entitled to our own opinion and I respect the fact that's yours may be different than mine. If you believe the post has "died" I would suggest that you don't have to post on it any more.

  8. I was going to ask Goon the same question but I get the impression that he would never fire Hakstol under the those circumstances. Am I correct Goon? If not the same question to you. I am just curious how long you guys would accept the status quo b/4 the lack of a NT would prompt you to make a move, if at all.

  9. Just because I support Dave Hakstol doesn't mean I'm not getting antsy myself. And if Minnesota happens to pull a title out of their hat this season, my guess is that the heat on Hakstol will only be turned up a notch.

So Mafia, I believe you have been asked this b/4, but not sure I have ever seen a specific answer. Assuming things continue the same as they have for the last 10 years (no titles - hope it doesn't but assume it does), i.e. - Hakstol's teams continue to be over .500, continue to compete for league regular/post season titles, stands remain full, team always makes NCAA tourney but Do Not win any NCAA titles (and let's also assume Minnesota does not either) - then as you are the AD in my scenario, would you fire Hakstol and if so how many more years would you give him b/4 making your move?

  10. Mafia - the problem with your pointing out that the best team doesn't always win (which is of course correct), is that not only has Hakstol not won in the years he "should have won" - he has also not won in those years when he did not have the best team in the national tourney. It's hard to say with a straight face that you can't expect the best team to win all the time and that you can't expect the team to win at least once when they weren't the best team.

The point some of the critics (who are willing to brave the backlash on this sight) are trying to make, I think - is that you only get so many kicks at the can regardless of whether you have the "best" team or not. To his credit Hakstol has helped give his teams a kick every year he has been head coach. However, they have kicked and missed the can every time!

When is it time to let someone else try to see if they can lead to the team to hitting the can?

  11. If you knew it was a guarantee to win a NC in 2019 and that UND would be a .500 team and miss the NCAA playoffs for the next 5 years prior to the NC, would you be ok sitting around and waiting for that or would you prefer to watch a team that competes at a high level every year and is in the mix for a NC every year?

No contest for me. I would prefer a 1 NC every 6 years and missing the NCAA's in the other years as opposed to being in the NCAA's every year and not winning any NC's over that same 6 year period.

And not making the NCAA's doesn't mean you can't be competitive and entertaining. For example, I thought CC was competitive and entertaining this year (they beat us three times I believe; I thought UNO was competitive and entertaining; I thought BU was competitive and entertaining (they split with us).

Talk to Twins fans you will find the same discussion. Some are happy as can be to have the 2 world series titles in 26 years or whatever and several years of mediocrity in between and some want to be competitive every year and don't care about the world series titles. Opinions differ. In my case I want brag about my squad winning it all, and not about them just being there.

  12. But it wouldn't be like Hak. He'd have missed a tournament and failed to host a first round playoff series. Neither of which Hak has failed to do. Ever.

Ah, but he would also have a NC. So it again comes down to individual preference. Let's face it as Sioux fans we all want to go to the dance every year and win every year, but reality says that will not happen. We also know Hakstol is not going anywhere anytime soon. So we are really just taking about those individual preferences - do you prefer participating every year and you're ok with no NC's or do you prefer a NC and the possibility of some corresponding down years.

In the last 9 years I would have much preferred a NC or 2 to gether with some years not making the NCAA's over the current situation of 9 straight appearances and no titles.

  13. Since you're a new poster, I'll give you a friendly piece of advice...condescension doesn't go over very well. If you want to make your point (and have anyone actually pay attention to you), try doing it without belittling everyone else. Thanks.

and i'll give you a friendly piece of advice, read the post i responded to jack. i only gave back what i got.

  14. If Hakstol had 1 National Championship and missed the tournament the other 8 years, he wouldn't have a job at UND. If UND missed the NCAA tournament 8 times out of 9 years they wouldn't be able to recruit the talent that they are getting now, therefore they wouldn't even be in the upper tier of teams competing for National Championships year in and year out. I know alot of nutso fans have a belief that the arena and tradition recruits itself, but that is far from reality. Hakstol is a great coach and a great recruiter that will get a title one of these years. For those of you who can't enjoy the ride until we get that title, get off of the bus.

Do you live in Hakstol's brain, or how else do you know his answers to your questions since he is "most likely of the same opinion as I am." I have a hard time not laughing at some of the material that is posted on this board. Do people truly think like this?

Because I am clearly much more intelligent than you and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that Coach Hakstol wants to win NC's. And I have no doubt that he would trade multiple appearances for winning a NC.

Is it your position that he is perfectly happy appearing every year but not winning? I have a hard time not laughing at such a postion. Do you truly think like that? Do you think at all?

  15. Let me get this straight. If we could go back in time and change who won the 05' title game out of UND and Denver (Hakstol's first year as head coach), then have UND miss two consecutive NCAA tourneys (06' and 07'), and then have UND win 1 game in their next 6 NCAA tourneys, you would be happier today with Hakstol as our head coach? That is absolutely nuts. Gwoz's resume during Hakstol's era isn't even on the same level.

FIrst of all I'm not talking about who the coach is (in this case it just happens to be Hakstol). I don't care who's coaching and I don't care if the NC came 05, 07, 09, 11 or this year. I value NC's more than just being there. If you want participation banners that's fine and your choice. Would I rather be in the NCAA's than not, of course. Would I trade being there every year for winning it once every 9 years or whatever, absolutely. To that end, if you asked coach Hakstol if he would trade his 8 other appearances for 1 NC over the last 9 years what do you think he would say. If you don't think the answer to that is yes then you are nutsI So he is most likely of the same opinion as I am.

So I just hope he and his team can get over the hump next year, nothing more nothing less.

would rather have 1 NC in the last 9 years than 9 appearances ; I want NC's.

  16. Gwoz's NCAA Record at Denver

    95' 1-1

    96' DNQ

    97' 1-1

    98' DNQ

    99' 0-1

    00' DNQ

    01' DNQ

    02' 0-1 (#1 Seed)

    03' DNQ

    04' 4-0 (National Title)

    05' 4-0 (National Title) (#1 Seed)

    06' DNQ

    07' DNQ

    08' 0-1

    09' 0-1 (#1 Seed)

    10' 0-1 (#1 Seed)

    11' 1-1

    12' 0-1

    13' 0-1

So, aside from the 55 week stretch from the end of March in 04' and Early April of 05' Gwoz's teams really haven't had "it". Gwoz was 8-0 between 04' and 05' riding a very hot goalie in 04'. The other 17 years of his career his team was 3-10 in the ncaa tourney with 7 years of not qualifying for the tourney and 7 years of losing in their first game of the tourney (3 of those first game losses as a #1 Seed). Please explain to me how this makes his teams have "it". I would take Hak's consistency over this any day. Only 5 out of Gwoz's 19 seasons at Denver he was able to win a game at the NCAA tourney. Again, he and his teams sure have "it".

Sorry, but I want NC's , Gwoz has them, woog (i mean hakstol) doesn't. If you ask the players every year what their #1 goal is they would tell you a NC and everything else is secondary. I'd bet a month's salary if you asked Kristo, Knight, McWilliams or any underclassmen for that matter (or Hakstol for that matter) if they would take 1 NC and 3 years of average (like a .500 record and no McNaughton or Broadmoor trophies), over what they actually had the last 4 years, they would say hell yes in a heartbeat.

Does that mean Hakstol is a bad coach, heck no, but you can't argue that he and his teams have struggled mightily to get the ultimate prize. To Hakstol and his teams credit they have found a way to get there 9 times in 9 years, and that is quite an accomplishment, but getting there is not the goal. That doesn't mean the team has played bad, they just haven't found the pot of gold.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know - other than Woog has any coach been to the NCAA's more than Hakstol without winning a NC?

  17. So, 1985 Rensselaer was another miracle? How aobut 1988, 1992, and 1994 Lake Superior State? 1989 Harvard? 1991 Northern Michigan?

First of all I said close to a miracle - but never the less:

    RPI - 5 or so frozen four appearances; 1 title - so no;

LSSU - 4 FF appearances and 3 titles in 6 years - you were joking right

    N. Mich. - 3 FF appearances & 1 title - so no not really

Harvard - about 11 or 12 FF appearances; 1 title (or more maybe, I don't know) - are you serious?

But hey with BG in the new WCHA I would certainly say their chances of getting to the NCAA's for the 1st time in what 28 years are improving.

  18. Gwoz is available & we know his teams have been able to find "it" i.e. back to back titles. By the way if you don't have "it" and don't know exactly what "it" is or what "it" looks, sounds or feels like, or where to look for "it", then how do you ever find "it"?

Therefore, shouldn't you look for someone who knows all about "it" and has found "it" b/4, as opposed to someone who doesn't know anything about "it"?

    Well, that's "it" for now.

  19. If the coach doesn't have "it", or never had "it", or doesn't know how to find "it", how can he ever help his team find "it". Remember teams are most often a reflection of their coach. For at least the last 9 years the Hakstol hasn't had "it" so don't expect his team to have "it".
