  1. Haven't you learned anything from the other three NCHC games? Records don't matter this time of year!

Obviously!!!!!! Point is if UND can't win 2 games, playing at home, against a team with 6 wins all season, to continue its season, then they don't deserve to keep playing. All they have to do is take care of business tomorrow night and they move on. It's that simple!!!!!

  2. St Cloud isn't exactly sitting pretty right now...North Dakota controls its destiny tomorrow night. It's that simple.

YOu might be right - but My guess is St. Cloud is pretty safe sitting @10 with no chance to lose any games next weekend (and I think that was Dahl's position also even if SC lost twice). However you never know as a result of the NCH's poor on-conference results.

  3. Do you really feel they played as hard in the first as they did in the second? No way... Not that they played all that bad in the first but we can see what this team can do when it wants to... Same effort in the first as the rest of the game and the Sioux would have punched their ticket for next weekend.

I agree with willy, another lackluster first 20-25 minutes and another 2-0 deficit for the 2nd straight game with season potentially on the line (maybe even 3rd game in a row weren't they down to WM 2-0 also)

  4. Watching both games last weekend on TV ( I dunno, maybe it was Greg "Green" Akers) but man, the atmsophere seemed like it was a USA-U18 exhibition game rather than a race for the Penrose.

Agreed. Was unable to make the trip up I-29 last weekend , so I watched on TV and most of the time it sounded more like 1100 than 11000.

  5. Dagies - I hope you wrong on the "Maybe it was a pressure thing", because the pressure begins ramping up big time starting next Friday and will only continue to grow each weekend thereafter that the Sioux are still able to be playing. You could argue that if they are safely in the national tournament by winning the best 2 out of 3 this weekend, then the pressure is off for the Frozen faceoff. But the following weekend the pressure increases 10 fold. If the team/coaches can't handle the pressure of Senior night/penrose cup then we are in a world of hurt if/when the national tournament begins.

I agree with Yerman19, in that this isn't a tremendously talented team as compared to some other Sioux teams. As such in order to win on any given night, i think this team must 1) be emotionally ready to play every night 2) must outwork their opponent every night 3) must execute at a very high level every night, 4) must play with a greater desire than their opponent every night, and 5) must get some bounces to go their way.

I thought that the Sioux did pretty well with #'s 1, 2, but fell short on #3 (short handed goal was obviously a killer) and more importantly on #4. For whatever reason, I thought WM seemed to play with significantly more grit/desire than the Sioux for most of the night. Had #5 gone the SIoux' way they may still have won, but I don't think they got a lot of favorable bounces either.

Hopefully we start an eight game run of great puck luck on Friday!!!

  6. " Hak and his players the last 9 years would take a national title any day over Hak's overall winning record, regular and post conference tournament victories and championships/continued success."

I tend to agree with this as it pertains to Hakstol. I'm not so sure as it pertains to players as only a small # of his players over the past 9 years would have actually experienced the title.

It would be really interesting to actually know what Hakstol's take would be on this hypothetical situation.

  7. If you want to get technical about it, the owner of this site actually has the right to edit and control what he allows to be said on this site and who he allows on this site. Or he could assign those rights to other people, such as moderators. This isn't a 1st Amendment issue. The government has nothing to do with it. If the owner of this site chose to remove gfhockey, or any other poster, he could do so. And he could do so with little or no reason as long as it doesn't break discrimination laws. That's actually the way it is in this country on a private web site.

Wow, that's well said. However, I am simply advocating that anyone, including gfhockey and kid, has the right to speak their peace. If the owner wants to kick them of the site for doing so that is his/her choice. But that doesn't change my position that we are all entitled to our own opinion and I will continue to advocate that - unless the site owner kicks me off for doing so.

As for gfhockey and the many of you who react so strongly to his/her posts - why do you continue to constantly respond to them? They routinely appear to be intended solely to irritate and incite inflamatory responses - and are often quite successful. So why continue feeding the fire?

With that, I hope to be done with this detour from this site's true intenetion - discussing Sioux Hockey!!

  8. Conference wins over head to head record...interesting.

Just a guess, but I wonder if it might not have something to do with the unbalanced schedule also. With conference wins first, it rewards play over the entire season rather than potentially just one weekend of play during the season. It could also potentially eliminate the possible questions regarding how head to head play might play in if there is 3/4 way tie scenario, where some teams played 4 times and others only twice.

  9. for UND to win banner number 8, hockeyisgr8/gfhockey/whatever your name is going to be tomorrow, needs to go away!

Sorry, kid, I am not going anywhere, and I don't think my posting on this site or or lack thereof will have any bearing on the arrival of NT #8. To think otherwise is extremely naive.

As for gfhockey, if you wish to criticize/chastise me for defending his/her right to speak freely on this sight, so be it, I can live with that. Why? Because, you and every other poster have the same right to speak your peace, just as he/she does, regardless of how wrong/right/stupid/smart/thoughtless/insightful or just plain idiotic those statements may be. You may not like it, but that is the way it is in this country and I like it that way. If you don't like it, move to North Korea, you might fit in better there.

  10. For the record, I wasn't telling you to leave, HockeyisGr8. I was posting what a typical gfhockey post is like and saying if that's all you're going to post and not add anything to the conversation, then most on this board would rather he not even be around.

Thanks for clearing that up, I apologize for misinterpreting your prior post.

  11. So 5 different WCHA teams winning national titles in a 14 year span isn't "parity" in a conference to you? Seems like that's a pretty good run for one conference. Imagine if only ONE WCHA team was head and shoulders above the rest during that same time-span...dare I say they'd out-number BC in terms of titles?

But your initial post made reference to the ten years BC did not win as well as reference to the 5 different winning teams from one conference during that time period. Therefore I viewed your statement as one regarding college hockey in general and, my response was with regard to college hockey in general only.

If you want to throw BC out the equation then I completely agree with you that there is great parity in college hockey. But, based on 4 titles in 14 years (as well as 3 runner-up finishes in the other ten years), there is no doubt in my mind that BC and parity do not belong in the same sentence over the last 14 years. And it remains my opinion (and trust me as a born and raised Grand Forks boy it pains me to say it) that BC has separated themselves from the rest of college hockey over the last decade plus of college hockey.
