  1. I have not seen them play, but know some of the players. There is a lot of speed on the Ferris State team. Everyone talks about Kunitz, as they should. Lewandowsky can flat out fly, probably approaching the speed of Kevin Speiwak. As their coach stated, they play a wide open game so they recruit speed.

Will be interesting to see if we get a CCHA type of ref or a WCHA type of ref. I would tend to think the CCHA style of ref's will work to UND's favor when playing another WCHA team, but it is already what FS is used to so they will know what they can get away with.

Main points to getting past FS :

    - Shut down Kunitz

    - Adjust to officiating

    - Play disciplined throughout and smart positional defense to contain the flyers

    - Forecheck the daylights out of their defense, which is probably one of the weaker aspects of their team.

    Just my opinion.

  2. UND has an advantage in that they can practice on an Olympic sized sheet. I don't know if Ferris State has an Olympic sized sheet to practice on or not.

Nothing could make me happier than to see UND walk all over them. Unfortunately, I consider UND to be the underdog in this one in a not so small way. Even though Ferris State has struggled with consistency at times, they are playing well now.

  3. I was at the game in Halifax last night. It was a hard fought game by all the guys on Team USA. They were not intimidated by the totally rabid Canadian crowd. Bobby Goepfert was awesome, and has played well throughout the tournament.

On all of the reviews in the media, no one in Canada is mentioning the US goal which was disallowed. It was waved off because it was supposedly redirectly by a high stick. That would have given the US the lead at the time. They showed video replays of everything during the game at the Metro center, except that play.

The Canadian team isn't as good as the hype. The Russians will take them in the final, unless they get their goals waved off also.

  4. Had a friend at the game who saw the situation unfold.

Matt was moving up the boards going shoulder to shoulder with Higgins. They were both very low (going for leverage) against each other. Matt push the puck up, and then relaxed. Then Higgins smashed his helmet up against the boards with his stick, which caused his helmet to come off. Matt then took a knee to the head.

I don't have any detail on who was in first on the brawl. However, as a parent, I am glad they jumped in.

Matt never lost conciousness, but was clearly dazed.

He checked out okay last night when they got back to Grand Forks.

  5. Please keep posting the coaches interviews. Being a player's parent living outside the UND area, these posts are the only way we can hear about them.

These forums are always a good vitamin for the day as well.

    Thanks for your contributions.

  6. Read on another website the following people might be top candidates to replace Sauer.

Denver head coach George Gwozdecky, current Badger assistant Mark Johnson, and current U.S. National Team Development Program head coach Mike Eaves.
