  1. Sounds like there was a failure on the Athletic Department and the DMV. The Athletic Department should have made sure Hardee was allowed to drive the team, or at least told him he wasn't allowed to drive a vehicle under the possession of the University (rented by the University and owned by the University) for a year. It shouldn't take the DMV over a year to reinstate a drivers license after a first offence DUI (going by the fine). Now Hardee should have made sure the courts had the paper work that said he completed his treatment program. That's what I got from the article about the previous DUI.

I'm not sure that alcohol was involved with the accident in Portland.

  2. St Lawrence could have easily made this game uglier then 5-2.

This team needs something to spark them into showing up for 60 minutes.

I'm all for giving Hrynkiw a shot since Zane and Clarke are unwilling to take the job.

I don't see the point of playing two defensemen as forward if there are two healthy forwards available.

  3. Marshall's application is interesting to me. He's spent his entire career as an assistant to Rob Ash, first at Drake and now at MSU. Ash is 62. How much longer will he realistically coach? Marshall is quite young (36 I believe) and presumably would be Ash's heir apparent given the fact that he's assistant head coach. I guess I'm just a little surprised that he's looking to move on at this point.

He has to take an opportunity, no guarantee that he would replace Ash at MSU.

  4. You might want to consider retiring at age 74 (his age as of December 8th). This is his 30th year as coach. He has won 2 national titles. He won the first time in his 12th year, then won a second in 3 years. He hasn't won for the last 15 years. They didn't even make the tournament last year. I'm surprised that Michigan fans aren't storming the arena trying to get rid of him based on some of the reaction around here.

The retirement talk started when Mel Pearson left for the Michigan Tech. I'm not a Michigan fan and don't really care what Red does, I'm just saying Michigan fans have brought up that he should retire.

  5. Conditions change within the game over the years, so you also need to compare other programs in the same time period. Things aren't the same at UND or in college hockey in 2013 as they were in 1959. How many national championships does Michigan have? When was their last title? Are people trying to get Red fired?

I'd say more are wanting him to retire, maybe he will at the end of his extension.

  6. If someone doesn't think Bollinger would be a great candidate I don't think they understand leadership. Don't equate an opinion that he is a great candidate with an opinion that he would be the only candidate. Bollinger is a quality guy. He is smart and he is a proven leader. He has experience at multiple levels and knows the type of talent needed. It has been a long time since I was a position coach at UND, or a recruiter but the important fundamentals of leadership, organization, communication, integrity and credibility remain. He also has experience working with today's student athletes. If anyone doesn't believe a guy with Bollinger's experience and success at Wisconsin and professional fb and immediate coaching success at hs and college level doesn't make him a top candidate then you don't understand college fb. or coaching. He will be successful. The fact he is from gf is irrelevant. He would have immediate credibility with athletes and coaches. I don't know he is even interested.

So because he was a quarterback makes him a good leader? Bollinger was a carrier backup in the NFL, and the only year you could say he was a starter he wasn't very good.

  7. Does it have to be a qb? Does it have to be the big ten what about the sec?

Lots of high school coaches. Probably about 15,000+ "former high school coach" probably 50,000+

Lots of FCS/FBS/NFL assistants (and most probably started coaching hs or just were on a much faster track)

I don't think Nick Sabin played in the NFL or coached a high school.

Saban went from playing college to being a graduate assistant at Kent State
