  1. Case in point, IowaBison. With the exception that Potts didn't know that on certain issues he was supposed to smile and follow the board's lead.
  2. The SBoHE went into the '05 session expecting a ridiculous increase in higher ed spending, their plan relied upon it and their plan remains the same. The real catch is that eventually North Dakota taxpayers are going to 'get wise' and realize that they are paying big bucks for a rather mediocre system. North Dakotans are in the top ten in a number of higher ed funding categories (higher ed spending/capita and per $1000 of personal income) and what do we get in return? We spend nearly twice as much on higher ed as South Dakota and Montana and it would be difficult to objectively state that our institutions of higher learning are significantly better than that in those two states.
  3. Yeah, the general fund. Also, there are infinitely many empirical ways of demonstrating inequality in higher education funding, the key is finding and agreeing on an objective one.
  4. ? Seriously? ? All of NDSU's money comes from public sources? ? NDSU doesn't raise from private benefactors? Better tell the folks who've raised over $80 million in the past three years. NDSU doesn't raise money from the proceeds of their intellectual property? Better tell Alien, the farmers who buy NDSU seed, and hundreds of others. NDSU doesn't sell goods and services to private parties? ?
  5. It would be absolutely shocking if NDSU/SDSU didn't vote for inclusion of any Northern Plains school for conference membership-especially UND/USD. Our athletic departments/presidents are not as stupid or vindictive as some of our fans.
  6. A little arrogant, huh? Hence the 'if'. Who said that? Nothing personal, if you're going to bring up generalizations like that don't do it in reference to my post. I don't need statements that I don't agree with attributed to me. Whatever.
  7. Actually they are an anomaly. Most fans have no idea that Bisonville or Siouxsports.com exist. Of the over 1,000 members of Bisonville there are about five of them (IMO) that display the behavior you describe-there are about that same number here on siouxsports. However, that is too many as one off-topic post about hockey, NDSU's football tradition, how great/awful Fargo or Grand Forks is quickly ruin an otherwise relevant, interesting thread. The moderators are doing a good (and ever improving) job of dealing with this. Recently, most contaminated threads have been outside of NDSU specific discussions and those that get out of hand are immediately dealt with. Personally, I find this sad, not funny.
  8. Baloney. I certainly don't hate UND's athletic teams or those from any other school. A rivalry doesn't equate to hatred. I'm sincerely rooting for UND this year when they play UNI (I probably won't follow any other games).
  9. very classy.
  10. I know this may be hard for many to understand or accept: If the Bison are accepted into the Mid-Con the Big Sky is probably off the table forever. (of course this point is also trivial as I don't see the Big Sky showing any real interest in any school more than a stones throw east of the rockies.) NDSU will be looking east; building the Mid-Con, and if moving anywhere be looking at the MVC or Horizon. The Bison probably wouldn't go anywhere for a decade, if ever, and by then we identify ourselves as a Midwest team.
  11. According to who? I've heard academic quality, athletic competitiveness, commitment to gender equity, commitment to student-athlete success, geography with regards to cost of travel and travel time, and sponsoring all conference sports.
  12. hey superstar, what's the title of this thread? that being said, star2city, thanks for the well wishing. the bison need the mid-con bad. i'm cautiously optimistic. pretty sure a UND grad, and hs classmate of mine, manages doolittles. not too worried about uncouth sioux fans (that's a little redundant ) making a scene, i'm sure that davek is watching hockey reruns.
  13. Correction; it is Division I. The Bison play DI-AA football.
  14. ...and Division I.
  15. the lack of support comment referred to the task force report where those surveyed did not express strong feelings for the move
  16. Thanks for the clarification. I agree that there are bison fans who think that way. These same individuals are often of the opinion that NDSU and UND should never play again () or that NDSU should move to DI-A immediately if UND makes the move.....
  17. Ignorant Journalist "It's not like Samford isn't used to seeing former Division I football players suited up and on the field in Bulldog games." Samford plays DI-AA ball. The quote should read "former Division I-A football players". This happens all the time, for those of us who follow DI-AA, this gets extremely annoying.
  18. What's this 'hope' reference about? I agree with the rest of our post.
  19. bincity, I think that UND will almost certainly be moving to Division I with it's exploratory year in '07-'08. But I don't take it as an absolute certainty, there are a number of items of concern: Kuchella's resistence to the idea, including during his announcement budget/fundraising issues lack of support-ie the task force report will Kupchella be around to see this through, and if not will the next president? the piecemeal approach to the issue, including the task force report
  20. You are completely wrong, DaveK. The intent is as exactly as has been stated repeatedly. It is to end confusion, primarily among ignorant journalists, that institutions that are currently labeled DI-AA are DI institutions as are our DI-AAA and DI-A brethren. No one is going to confuse schools like NDSU and New Hampshire and conferences like the Big Sky and Gateway with Oklahoma, USC, the Big Ten, and the SEC. It is quite annoying when schools are incorrectly labeled as DIAA schools when in the context the football subclassification should not be used. There is no ulterior motive.
  21. I think that UND needs to do what's best for them, but Kupchella has left the door wide open to say, "We did the math and DII is the best place for the [insert new team name here ]," in a year.
  22. IowaBison's order: "UND will get into Great West FB Conference" (80%-as long as it still exists, there should be an open invitation) "UND will get into Mid-Con" (50%, increase to 70% if NDSU/SDSU get in) "UND will be in DI indy pergatory until 2011" (50% chance) "UND will get into BSC" (10%-needs a major shakeup in order to become viable option-also needs to happen before another option emerges)
  23. I prefer the word revolutionary.
  24. Although he didn't want to, I'm glad that Potts completed Chapman's evaluation and included criticisms of his behavior. There is really nothing new in the evaluation, but I think it is important to have this information in print. I also feel that Chapman's response was 'very well worded'.
  25. moowha-ha-ha-ha-ha a former vice president for the Greater North Dakota Chamber of Commerce and agricultural economics professor at North Dakota State University.
