Man, what a crushing game to watch if you’re a Bronco fan. Looks like Motzko has brought Minnesota back to prominence. In quite a short time too.

Yeah, it was devastating.  Shut out by minnesota of all teams?  Row the frickin' boat..... ugh.

It'll be a long time until we have a team this talented again.  Unless Fersch can pull off some recruiting or transfer portal magic.

I was surprised by the number of W. Michigan Underclassmen.  I went and counted there roster and they have 31 players on the roster, so they have a bunch of upperclassmen also.  That is a lot of healthy scratches.

All those covid seniors coming back means we have a ton of players.  I didn't realize it was THAT many, but hopefully that means the future is bright.

Same with Michigan hockey:   6 of their 9 titles between 1948 and 1956 and one in '64.   2 Banners in the last 57 years.   Mich, though, probably deserves powerhouse rating based on overall tournament performance.

That's michigan in every sport.  Dozens of titles but most of them before the cold war against teams that are essentially high schools now.

So they had a full frickin' lineup (except not having an extra skater...the horror!), but for some reason couldn't play tomorrow with that exact same full lineup of players.
I'm glad Michigan is getting pummeled online for this decision, they deserve every bit of it.
I so wish MTU could've pulled off the win.

Schloss' comment on Twitter about "White jerseys tonight, white flags tomorrow night" made me LOL. :D

In my opinion that was the tweet of the year.

Western Michigan with their ne logo missed on their center ice logo.

Dude, don't even get me started.  They changed the logo to a circle W, and get an opportunity to literally place the logo INTO A CIRCLE at center ice, and they use the letterhead edition.

What the hell were they thinking lol.

Hard to change it to no goal after it was counted. Looks like it was touched below the crossbar height.

Tough way to lose, tough to beat that team in a 3 on 3 OT.  At  least with the pairwise changes it's not a full loss.  I wish we played them again early on, I fear by late december when we get them at Yost for the "gli" that team will be really really good.

    Well ... dang.
    Missed that news.
Andy was my favorite post-Gwoz.  :(

I guess WMU is screwed now. :D

This is the type of game where we'll miss Andy for sure.  I do expect our team to open things up a little more than in previous seasons.  I think you'll see more goals, and more creativity offensively.  Hopefully that also means more wins.  I'm tired of all of the other NCHC teams having fun in the tournament while we stay at home at #16 or 17 in the pairwise.

Be interesting to see when Michigan gets their first lost.

Potentially until mid-November against Notre Dame unless Western Michigan pulls off something special next week.

Could go all the way to December until they play Minnesota.

I expect we'll get at least one win against them, but have a strong feeling we may sweep.  They have a ton of talent, and might be looking ahead of "little" Western Michigan.

That Saturday Lawson crowd is going to be nuts.

UND has had problems with Western even when they are loaded, and they will most likely take a little time to come together next year.

WMU's team was the same this past season.  We knew they would take some time to gel, which isn't a very good time to play so many teams so quickly in the pod.  The Bussi injury was just salt in the wound.

They were awful to start the year, no doubt about that but they finished with 6 wins over top five teams.  There aren't many other teams in the country that could say that this past season.

    I just checked.

WMU finished 6-7-0 vs top 5 teams

Other teams in the NCHC vs top 5 teams

St. Cloud - 6-4-0 (7-5-0 including NCAA tournament)

    UMD - 2-6-1 (3-7-1 including NCAA tournament)

    UND - 3-1-1  (3-2-1 including NCAA tournament)

    Omaha - 3-6-1

    Denver - 2-9-0

    Miami - 1-12-0

    CC - 2-7-0

I'm not saying that WMU should have been a top 5 team, but there is a enough talent on this team to beat top teams night after night.  The consistency wasn't there due to goalie problems and a huge freshman class, but everyone should be older and theoretically they'll be playing more like they did at the end of the year when they went 8-4-1 rather than at the beginning of the year when they went 2-8-2.

The NCHC is going to be tough next year no doubt. If UND is able to procure another legitimate Top-6 guy from the Portal, I think they'll still have as good of a chance as anyone next year.

One of the major components you have to look at when analyzing how a team will be is their performance this year. I'm going to pick on Western. They were awful this year. The players that are returning are great players, but, unless they really upgrade elsewhere, I still don't think they are a Top half team.

They were awful to start the year, no doubt about that but they finished with 6 wins over top five teams.  There aren't many other teams in the country that could say that this past season.

UMass will be without their starting goaltender and three other players vs UMD. It’s ridiculous the amount of breaks and advantages that has been going Duluth’s way. Pretty comical at this point. I’m sure just a matter of time before they get a bye to championship game. Cause why not.

Some day these guys are going to run out of luck.  I guess today is not that day.

I almost ran over Rico Blasi in 2012 at Joe Louis Arena before WMU's CCHA championship game against Michigan.  I was hurrying and it was dark as the roadway went underneath the arena.  He didn't look both ways (was probably half asleep from having to play BG for 3rd place) and I had to slam on my brakes to avoid making a blasi mark on the pavement.

Anyway, we beat Michigan to take the title later that evening (which is pretty much the best feeling in the world) and I almost forgot about that "incident".

Actually, I think UNO would have preferred WMU. They match up much better skill-wise with them. You can’t make mistakes against Denver but you can get away with some smudge against Andy’s boys...

lol @ Andy's boys.  Now I'm picturing this on the bottom of all the player's skates.

This gets to the heart of how I think UND's tournament preparation suffered from the NCHC schedule.  2021 weekends against UMD, SCSU and WMU would have hurt the team's record but stiffened its spine.  Playing CC and Omaha, with a diminished DU sprinkled in, did them no favors.

Two clarifying points. 1. UND was still very good, played well against UMD, and deserved a better fate that morning. 2. I don't blame the NCHC, as organizations had to choose the path they thought best in an unusual time.

That's a really good point actually.  They had to split the "groups" somehow, but it was rather uneven this year.  It would have been helpful for you guys if you would have had the opportunity to play the top teams in our league more than just a handful of times.  That said, I'm thankful that WMU wasn't stuck in a group with SCSU, Duluth, AND North Dakota.

    I agree, WMU is solid.

When everyone was speculating about Denver and UNO at the end of the year I think a case could have and should have been made that WMU was better than both of them at the end of the year.

6 of WMUs 10 wins came against frozen four teams.  But there were some pretty bad losses early in the season that knocked them out of the discussion.
