  1. My two cents again. It seems UND has problems with teams that back door a lot. Use UND's overplaying of the passing lanes, get lay ups. Example Northern State. A great coach said, use their strength and make it their weakness!!! Get steals and play the passing lanes to get lay ups, instead to give up a lay up.

IMHO take it for what its worth.

  2. It seems everytime the wheels come off the bus, the women have no one who can stem the tide. 26 turnovers for our girls is crazy!!!

When UND is going bad, they are taking quick perimeter shots, the posts last night never caught the ball on the block at all. They caught it on the free throw line.

I still feel, if our girls would have slowed that game down, wear them down with our size, UND would have been able to win that game ugly. And sometimes winning ugly is good enough. Especially at the national tourney!!

My two cents...for what its worth.

Florida Gulf Coast deserves a lot of credit though. Very very good athletes!!!

  3. With rants like this I used to think of 'legend334' as more of an "Eric Cartman" personality. Turns out "Eric" might disagree ....

"You're the worst character ever, Towelie." -- Eric Cartman

PS - I think Gordie Stafford might make a pretty good DI womens coach given his time and experience at S-SM.

Why does the moderator let Sica-whateverr continue to make personal attacks?? Joke.

Some who read my post know, some think they know, some do not know anything. Which category do you fit into Sica?

  4. I am sure there was a Army canidate out there some place qualified. How many UND alums will we disengage until something is done? Funding for D 1 will be more than interesting. Oh yeah, maybe we can schedule Army in hockey. Awesome! Or Notre Dame will play UND in football!! Brilliant. We will see if outsiders can weather the strom when and if Bruce Smith becomes President. Perhaps the AD of choice will be back bleeding GREEN again, where he should have been in the first place!! Thanks Phil.

  5. I really don't think we should brag about beating Mayville State. The financial disparity between the two schools is obscene. UND should beat Mayville State by 30 points. I hope Jones turns it around here, but I'm firmly on record as having said that Craig Smith should be the coach at UND. Fast forward two years, when Tim Miles leaves NDSU and they hire Craig Smith. The Bison won't skip a beat and everyone at UND will say "Wow, he's a great coach! We should have him here at UND!". We won't get a second chance.

Should UND get a second chance??? Why would Craig look at UND after what happened here!!! On the flip side Florida Southern was 8-20 this year....3-13 in their conference. That is our other coaching option?

  6. I don't care how nice of a person she is but when you're W-L record looks like that with the kind of facilities and funding that program has been given than you don't deserve to have your job anymore. If she's really such a great coach then maybe she'll get picked up by someone else, I would be incredibly shocked, however. College sports are about results and when you don't produce results they'll get someone else who will.

If winning is the only thing college athletics is about....why have some coaches at UND who have not won still have a job?? Or other schools as well....it is a big picture not always wins and losses. At the end of your career or life, you wont remember the wins and losses. You will remember the players, your teammates, your fellow coaches, your fellow employees! As coach Glas said many many many times and he is 100% correct........at the end of the day its about building life long relationships and turning young 18 year old men or women into adults who can go out and function in society!!! I bet if you asked coach John Wooden what he cherishes most....it will be the same answer!!!

  7. Those costs were covered by the state....that being said...a 328 grand swing, combine that with concession losses, 100 grand guranteed by dining services, losing concessions at REA, Betty, Alerus is a huge bottom line hit.....all and all if Ralph was alive today....this would not be the agreement....period

  8. Like I said...after seeing him everyday for two years....I think I can judge his demeanor fairly well...and like i said...it must have been some pretty severe circumstances for him to lose his cool...

  9. Bottom line is the athletic dept should not be paying 250 grand a year to play in the Betty and another about 6500 a month to play hockey in the Ralph...combine that with REA backing out of many financial obligations...ie...paying for many of the costs of Sioux Illustrated....which now I see is only a online issue....how many alums will be willing to pay a subscription to read it online....that is as good as a idea as only putting media guides online....people want a book....a reference at their disposal...not something they need to look up online whenever they want to look up a fact.....but under new management all Sioux Illustrated needed was a editor....guess that dart didnt hit the board....i digress...if Ralph himself were to see things going on he would have the entire REA staff fired....without a doubt!!!!!

  10. I have known Jerome for 5 years now, I can say I know him pretty well, for him to do what he did, the other person would have really been provoking him....or Jerome would have had a bit much to drink...otherwise....I think Jerome would have walked away...IMHO

  11. What is the deal with that??? Nothing like continuing to keep dragging him and his name thru the mud!! Give it up Argus Leader...journalists....I spoke to Rome today....he said he is working on some things in the NBA...trying to see if he can land a deal, if not he will go to Bismark and play where he played last year...

  12. While I've often been critical of the guy I must say one area that I'm quite pleased with is the increased emphasis he's put on marketing the football team. The past few years we've had tremendous teams, but you hardly ever heard radio ads promoting the games or saw a single billboard anywhere. (Contrast that with the bison billboards we're subjected to just about everywhere in this state) Under RT, we surrendered the sports marketing duties to the REA and football and other sports got the shaft big time as tons of promotional dollars went into advertising for hockey (no objections) and REA events such as the World Juniors, Agassi-Sampras tennis match, etc. (strong objection).

UND gameday ads or even a few days before ads still arent on the bottom front page of the sports section of the GF Herald... like it was in previous years..a billboard ad was up when Sara N was the marketing person....whom I felt did a great job...balancing REA and UND $$$$....then the bison tried to be smart and put a scream yellow billbaord up in GF....that and the fact that Mr Neuman ( sp?) at one time was not real happy with a few of the previous administration....I will refrain from using any specific names....but will keep in generalized...

  13. For a Division I transition, someone from outside UND (especially outside GF) is actually a priority. So lo and behold Tom Buning was appointed last year.

Once the transition is completed and UND is established in DI, I would be surprised if Buning stays around, expecially if he gets an opportunity with a higher level school. That's just the way things should be - people have a need to grow and experience different challenges. For the next AD, when a knowledge of alumni and insiders becomes more important again, who would UND turn to? Someone like Bollinger, who now would also have an experience leading a college foundation, could be a prime candidate IMO.

If UND tries to mend that fence, there will need to be A LOT of healing!!

  14. So in order to get these great pay days....UND will play all its BIG games on the road...where a UND fan will not get to see these teams play anyway....so what is the real benefit of being D 1....is it prestige? profit?? I do not understand it......

  15. I appreciate having Tim & Swyg to listen to. They are the only guys who ever regularily talk Sioux Athletics on the radio in this region, even though it is usually only for about 10 minutes every week. Unless Swyg mows his lawn that week. Then the Sioux talk is cut down to five minutes that week. When UND hired their first new men's basketball coach in nearly two decades, they did take the time to interview him.........10 days or so after he was hired. When UND announced they were going DI, they broke the story by interviewing Tom Buning.......4 or 5 days later.

I understand that when they work in a small market like GF and real job is the play-by-play gig that they shy away from posing challenging questions or criticism of coaches when they work so closely with Hakstol, Roebuk, Glas (now Jones), even Lennon. But it would be nice if they would do a half-hours work of homework the day before their show in order to at least have an intelligent discussion during their show about Sioux athletics rather than an hour and half devoted to reading the GF Herald on the air, and another hour and half devoted to Swygman's latest yard project. For those that don't know, Swyg bags his grass, while Tim does not. With Forum Communications now owning the Herald, I wonder if Clear Channel will ban them from referencing the Herald in the future. This could mean more time devoted to Tim's lawn-care strategies.

I will continue to faithfully tune in every morning. I think tomorrow is the day for UND's 10 minute alottment.

Are there any other topics forgotten??
