Shouldn't you add to the 'guts and brain' combination, a strong dose of blinding hatred for certain other schools?
If your prediction turns out to be wrong, what will be your explanation? I may be wrong but I have a hunch you have your cover story already worked out.
After reading through this thread,I don't think ol' guts and brain is too concerned with being wrong. He just moves on to the next delusion .

The NCAA will make a rule change this summer where orphan FBS teams can join FCS conferences and they can all move up to FBS if enough transition properly. That's why the Big Sky is so anxious to lock in Idaho football. Since its the Frozen Four weekend, their isn't a lot of enthusiasm to talk about it now. Bison and Jack fans are dead set against it and insist that it won't happen, because UND has a path to FBS then. UND would need a stadium expansion, and alot of fans see that as too much of a stretch goal.
This summer will be huge in Big Sky history.
2018 is right around the corner. How is the stadium renovation coming? I assume the money is raised, drawings are done, shovels in the ground next month?

FCS is planning to seed the top 16 playoff teams, not just the top 8.

UNI has gone FCOA for all sports, including football. Some Big Sky AD's are concerned about UND's ability to make FCOA when they can't.

If he thinks that, good for him. Also in that scenario, I respectfully disagree with his assessment of the programs, and I hope UND stomps all over SDSU in the not-so-distant future. SDSU lost last season to a Big Sky Conference team in the postseason; I certainly hope UND is not that far behind or else ...
Yes, we got beat by 7. The Grizz pounded UND 42-16. The Jacks also smoked the Big Sky champ 55-10. What's your point?

So you're speculating that MSU-Mankato is going to sue the NCAA for the right to move up?
My point is that any serious DI talk has to come with a conference offer. The Horizon and MVFC would not even talk to Mankato. That leaves one conference. Logic must have been a topic you missed.
More deflection, color me shocked again. Perhaps you need to look up the definition of "fact". While you're at it, look up "rumor".

A school needs to have an offer from a DI conference to move up now. Completely different circumstances than NDSU and Chapman. A school can make all kinds of preparations for DI, but only a prospective offer can make it happen.
You didn't answer his question. Color me shocked

The MVFC teams are offering fulls to every good player in the 5 State region right now. SDSU is leading the charge cause their class is in shambles. Not much you can do when they are 4 hours closer and offer way more money.
The Jacks class in in shambles? lol wat

I'm glad to see Cloyd on the list. I know there were some FCS schools that offered him, and I believe he had given a soft verbal, as he was still looking at some FBS schools. Definitely a guy that I would like to see us keep.
Appears Cloyd committed to the Jacks https://twitter.com/search?q=alex%20cloyd&src=typd

The mere fact that a conference has contacted Mankato indicates that one conference, presumably the Slummit, anticipates losing members(s) shortly. That's always useful.
I skimmed the last few pages of this thread,i must of missed this. Do you have a link to this "fact"? TIA

It does seem odd that UND doesn't do home and home with old NCC foes. Or at least NDSU with amount of fans both schools bring in for game.
I know that SDSU tried to get a home and home with UND, starting this year. When that was turned down,we also tried to pay an absurd amount to get the FH to travel to Brookings this year for one game. Your coach refused both.
-
I'm not sure how many times you watched them play this year but they were a real pain in the ass to every team they played. And I guess they kind of beat NDSU in Fargo so there's that.
Their other wins are 3-8 Big Sky team, 5-6 Pioneer team, and the 2 worse teams in the Valley, one who was 1-10. Illinois State and WIU didn't think they were a pain at all.

Facilities and FCOA commitment. Also the program has been trending up the last few years.
In USD's first four years in the MVFC, i'm not seeing a upward trend the last few years:
2102- 1-10 (0-8)
2013- 4-8 ( 3-5)
2014- 2-10 (0-8)
2015- 5-6 (3-5)

I don't know where we'd be if timing had been different with Ben Jacobson. Maybe he takes over UND and coaches here until he's old and gray?? Maybe Ben coaches at UND and moves on to bigger and better anyway (UNI)? Or maybe he never had a desire to be the head coach at UND? I always have felt that UND let Ben get away.
This is the guy that UND athletics admin has to pursue. http://www.msumdragons.com/coaches.aspx?rc=558
Don't let this guy get away.
While his stint with Lickliter might have stalled his career a bit, he's done very well at MSUM. He would be an excellent choice.

I will bet a paycheck that SDSU did not put forth full effort to win that game against WIU. But, I am curious how you come to the conclusion that beating a ranked team on the road, that ended up only losing two games all year (reminder: 1 of those loses came at the hands of UND) is not better than WIU beating NDSU, who was safely in the playoffs and nothing to lose in the last game of the regular season? Please explain what makes beating NDSU more valuable than beating PSU.
If you're joking then that's kind of funny. If you're serious then that's freaking hilarious.

For a real naming controversy look into what the Province of Quebec is faced with having something like 8 locales that contain the "N" word in their names. N Rock and N Falls are two I remember. It seems that all of these place names were given as memorials to runaway slaves and there is a real opposition to attempts by the Quebec parliament to change them. Part of the population does not want to lose the historic connection that preserving these names ensures. Calhoun, Fighting Sioux, and __. It is amazing what can happen when context is ignored and decisions are made based on what is on the surface.

I wonder if the burden of funding FCOA could be pushing this back into consideration. Ugh. Travel costs aside, much prefer the Big Sky for all sports, and dissapointed more of our fanbase doesn't fully embrace it.
UND doesn't have all their sports in the Big Sky now

People must have missed this part of the GF Herald article.
Not surprised. She was doing alot of double talk in that interview. You could tell she was aware of the decision to remove "North Dakota" from consideration before that interview.
-
I honestly didn't even pay attention to the list, because I was all North Dakota. We were never told at the get go it wasn't an option until it was removed in the last round. If it had been removed initially, I would have been more invested. I know I'm not the only one that feels that way. I like the idea of something aerospace related, since we are such a big aerospace school. I seriously refuse to buy anything Sundog related. That's just embarrassing!
What?. Every name on the list had the potential to removed by the committee, either at the first cut to 15,7, or down to the final 5. Sounds like you're suffering from a case of sour grapes.
-
I'm aware of that. What I am saying is that if a person or group of people were so confident that Roughriders would advance to the final 2 they could in theory vote for another nickname in order to try block the ones that are deemed unacceptable.
If RR gets over 50% of the vote then there is no final 2. It's over

Larsen never mentioned anything about that so I didn't hear that. I did hear him say they will have a challenges with it, he talked about a website that directed people to go if they had questions about what COA was, finally he talked about how it will be a number tracked and taken out of the scholarship fund.
Him or Jack never mentioned anything about it being fully funded for the first 3 years.
Below is the podcast:
The way i understood it, they had donors pledging half of amount needed in the form of a matching donation for the first 3 years.
