  1. Last few Fridays it took until late in the 2nd or early 3rd for the boys to get going. With a 7:00 pm central start that puts the time around 8:45 pm. Last night it took 10 - 15 minutes for the boys to get into it. With an 8:30 pm central start that puts the time at 8:45 pm.

So clearly the key to winning Friday hockey games…8:45 pm central start times!  :D

No doubt. This is getting ridiculous. All the guys were tested prior to coming, and I get that they will be tested again., but if it's just 1 player that's positive, and the rest are negative....WTF. Better not be a false positive...as I hope they test more than once if so.

There were rumors of positive test(s) in Fargo yesterday. So at the very least I hope they retested the positives today to validate the initial result.

With that said, if they knew of positives yesterday then they could have notified the coaches to be prepared to play the early game today.

Only ice worse than NCAA regionals was when they had the Frozen Four at Ford Field (Indoors football field) in Detroit.

Don’t disagree on Ford Field however the failed “Frozen Faceoff at the Target Center” experiment also set the bar for terrible indoor ice.

This type of game could be really helpful in a couple weeks.

Definitely not real sharp right away, didn't seem to have the legs going much at all, and pace of game wasn't great. Denver had a real defensive style and got away with a ton of holding throughout the game and we couldn't really establish the cycle game much the 1st half or so of the game. Battled through it and came out with a much better 3rd period and found a way to score a goal late in the game when you needed it. Then in OT came with a big push right away and despite a couple of bad d zone turnovers end up drawing a penalty and making a nice play for the game winner just after the penalty expires.

Scheel continues to play solid hockey. Came up with some big stops on the couple good chances DU had.

PP looked really solid tonight. Lots of chances and really solid entries and movement.

Completely agree. This is why the NCHC has had success in the national tourney. This was as close to an elimination game as you can get. Lots to learn from including how to stick with it.

On the flip side, the first half of the game was not our best. But Denver had zero offense and even needed our help on their goal. It is going to be hard to generate offense against a rival, that is selling out to play D, and is seeing you for the 7th time this year.

    Imagine Omaha losing that game....

I vaguely recall Omaha recently losing in their own barn when their opponent was short three of their top six forwards (including two hobey baker finalists). :whistling:

  6. I love the “BIG10 is back” narrative that is playing out right now.   Much easier argument to make when your teams don’t start with a .200 winning percentage against non-conference opponents. I do think some of those teams have made a step forward but some in Ann Arbor are already trying to add a trophy to the case.  Going to be a weird year in terms of understanding how conferences will stack up against one another. Thankfully there is no doubt the NCHC  will be the measuring stick for everyone else.

Pretty sure Pinto had already said somewhere along the line that the plan was to be here for 2 years, though you're right, some confirmation would be nice.

and yeah, if JBD comes back, it would be huge!

I would add Brad Berry to list of people expecting Pinto to be around one more year.

  8. Let me start by saying I hope Saville is okay and I do believe it should have been a goalie interference call (even though I don’t think it was fully intentional). But the sales jobs tonight especially when it was their own defensemen’s stick was just a great example of Omaha’s  good sportsmanship and commitment to playing the right way.   “The trainer is sure getting a workout early...”.

  9. Refs have to call penalties to protect players this time of year.   The whistles have largely disappeared the last few weeks while guys get mauled. And yes that goes both ways.  I’m more okay with it once the NCAAs come around but not in a game that means very little in the grand scheme of things.

Win tonight and a dirty tie tomorrow.

    4 point weekend.

    Then we’re on to CC.

We are going to lose in the 3v3/shootout? I’d be okay with a win and a tie but let’s all agree we should just go ahead and take that extra point.

  11. If this was a preferred eastern team there is a 0% chance they would be arguing for a #1 vs #6 intraconference 2nd round matchup in #6s backyard. Just read that back one more time; #1 overall (not playing #8 or even #7) but #6 in the 2nd round, who is in their conference, AND the host school. Incredible.

The only upside is this would become a huge argument towards returning to campus regionals.  But since BC is going to be in Worcester yet again nothing will change.  Until BC is a higher seed and gets sent to Fargo this nonsense will continue. And since that will never happen the western schools will get screwed annually especially with a single regional even close.
