  1. SDSU has two players from the same team just off the top of my head.

Edit: Although both players are from Circle Pines, MN, which is a suburb just north of the Twin Cities. I'd still think that counts though.

i checked bisonville a few days ago and someone was saying you guys have loaded class. NDSU lost a couple recruitment battles to you from what it looked like.

  2. The bottom line is that NDSU was aggressively recruiting Mollbeg and offered him a full ride. NDSU apparently didn't have a problem with his ankle sprain before he made his choice. I guess you can twist it however you want but I am just happy he chose UND over NDSU. It really bruises egos to the South when a kid choses UND over NDSU though.

it seems to me that they had been recruiting their qb commit out of nebraska longer and harder than mollberg. both sound pretty good. UND frankly had alot more to offer him in terms of playing time. He probably would have redshirted at either school, but mollberg will probably be starter as rs freshman, while having to wait for his RSsophomore year to even compete for a spot at ndsu. He made a smart choice on the circumstances and we needed him much more than they do.

We don't know what schwartzkopf was offered at NDSU

  3. Yeah, but you gotta remember that ....

    1. the game didn't mean as much to them.

    2. they were looking past UND toward the SDSU game.

    3. (my personal fave) they were "playing down" to UND.

    4. they didn't show up to play, as it was a "meaningless' OOC game.

    5. they would win 9 out of 10 games against UND.

    6. Pat Sweeney "homered" Dom Izzo so much, causing Dom to say nice things about UND, that the balance of the universe was thrown off enough to favor a UND victory.

    7. but football.

    8. but(t) hurts.

Take your pick. Heard 'em all before. Listen, NDSU is a very good team in bastekeball, football, volleyball, soccer, etc., relative to other teams in FCS and the mid-major level. There is no denying it. UND, too, is fielding very good teams relative to its competitive landscape. But the arrogance and excuses from both sides just gets nauseating.

UND basketball has shown a couple good flashes this year (NDSU and SDSU) but as a whole, I would say they are still a year away from being 'good.' I'm expecting us to do better in bb in the bigsky than football next year. NDSU and SDSU have better basketball teams, especially SDSU, but we still won, and i'll take it.

In topic related news, anyone hearing anything?

  4. Since it "worked" for Boise state, how come other FCS schools aren't making the jump? Montana, Appalacian State, Northern Iowa...if it was so easy and such a great idea, those schools would have made the jump years ago. I think its ok to think big for this program, but looking at the FBS is not the right option.

As a fan, do you want to see your team compete for a National Championship, or not. UND can do that in the FCS. No chance in FBS. Boise State went FBS and beat some very good teams. Even went undefeated a couple of those years. But guess what, didn't win a Championship. Sure they have a Fiesta Bowl championship, but I would much rather win the National Championship than any FBS bowl championship. Anyday.

I would take a rose bowl win over an fcs championship every time. Same goes for fiesta sugar orange and cotton.

  5. just a general observation, but does it seem to anyone else that fargo schools under produce? 1/3 of the states highschool grads and noone going to a d1 program as far as I can tell.

  6. Northern Texas just built "Mean Green Stadium" for $78 million and it holds over 30,000 and it is very nice.

50,000 is alot different than thirty thousand. Instead of building around, you have to go up. Also, dealing with seasonal weather increases material costs. higher grade concrete, insulation, etc.
  7. I wonder why an outdoor "horse shoe" stadium would cost $250 to build? I would have thought it would have been around the $90 million mark.

because thats how much they cost? it's the same size as tcf bank stadium, which cost 275 iirc.
  8. People are talking 25k to 30k stadium because they're thinking of the 15k average attendance requirement for an FCS team to move to FBS. Make sense now? ;)

    Six home games, say:

G1: 28k <-- you need room for that one

    G2: 20k

    G3: 11k

    G4: 11k

    G5: 10k

    G6: 10k

    Average: 15k

people at ndsu rip into members of their own fanbase who dare hypothesize about going fbs (heh lakes). They are way better prepared, at least in football, and are as ready to make the jump as anyone, although i think the dome would be a big drag on attendance. With more prominent teams, say a MWC type schedule, I think they could sell 30,000 tickets pretty comfortably, assuming they were competitive. I think there is the spare talent in the region to support another competitive FBS team, but not two or three or more.

  9. Does anybody know if there has been any talk by the city to keep UND football there for the long haul? Can the Alerus be renovated in a way that it can grow to meet UND's needs? Or would it have to be torn down (stadium part) and built from the ground up? Just curious what the options are on the table.

supposedly it's designed for the endzone walls to be torn out and seating installed, or at least that was the rumor.

I wonder how much start up capitol UND would need to start building a new stadium on campus? It sounds like they might be exploring that option sooner than everyone thinks. Also, what is the average lifespan of turf?

where would they do this? If they use memorial stadium, they should be able to get a pretty reasonable outdoor stadium in place for somewhere in the 30-40 million dollar range, seating 15,000 or so. I think tearing down memorial stadium and rebuilding from scratch would anger many people. While I would love football back on campus, I think the city would flip !@#$, and we definitely haven't demonstrated any need for a bigger stadium. I'm not sure how many times we have sold out the alerus, and I'm not sure if we have ever sold the place out for a non-ndsu game. Granted, you could say the same about the fargodome pre-2003. We'll see how next year goes for attendance.

  10. And yes, I realize other factors could be in play such as the fact that he'll be playing once or twice per year in the state of Illinois

this is probably a bigger deal than you would expect. both isu's, wiu, siu, uni within a few hour driveof chicago.

I've never made it to sdsu's campus, but if it's anything like vermillion... yuck. As far as campus's go UND > NDSU >>>>USD

  11. It is solid football I think. North Carolina has started to put together a decent program. I imagine like most schools down there, they do it with in-state talent.

UNC has been pumping out draft picks for a few years, and i believe they led the last two draft with number of picks, and might do it this year ago. Piles of talent there but they just can't get it together. Coaching seems to be a big issue.

  12. Speaking of downtown has Whitey's reopened yet?

about two months ago, i haven't been there yet but there were some hiccups when it first opened, which have since been more or less ironed out.

  13. Please go away troll.

Let me save you the time. " fargo is better."

so no, you haven't. Trendy level 10? Eclectic O'Really's? Either you're an idiot and don't know what these words mean, or you have never been to any of these places. The rooftop closes the first week of october anyway, your advice is garbage. Thanks for playing.

  14. That bar is Muddy Rivers. It attracts an "older" crowd. Bonzers is a great pub with a good mix of old and young folks with the owners being big Sioux fans. Joe Blacks is the most popular bar downtown among the college aged students. Then you have the "dancing" at Gillys. The "trendy" Level 10. and the eclectic basment bar of O' Reilly's.

Finally the relaxed hip pizza joint/bar of Rhombus Guys - I recommend this joint as you can relax on the rooftop, order some pizza, get a drink at the rooftop bar, and watch some sports on the projector under the stars....and then easily walk half a block to Sledsters, a small bar with a decent sized crowd.

I'm not sure why, but this post made me facepalm. Have you ever been downtown?
