  1. Looks like we're going to Kansas again this year, only this time it's not Lawarence.

The K-State 2012-2013 schedule has UND's men in Manhattan on Nov. 9 to take on the Wildcats at Bramlage Coliseum. K-State got beat by Syracuse in the East Regional of the NCAA Tournament last years 75-59.

Yes, indeed - looking forward to this one! I live down in Kansas City, can't wait to make the trip to the "Little Apple" to cheer on UND. There was a nice group of fans at the KU game last year, hoping to see a nice turnout again this year.

  2. There has to be some method to madness why would you give in for 5 games out of 18? Maybe 5 home games? There has to be a way around it I will wait and see what happens.

I hope you're right - we have more than a year to find out, I guess. But if their only "solution" is streaming games online, it's going to be a huge disappointment.

  3. So the gophers all their games rights are with the Big Ten Network but FSN will show some games. FSN can be shown nationally so why cant UND do the same thing? Replace BTN with CBS and FSN with FCS.

The difference between BTN and CBS is that BTN is owned by Fox - so airing games on FSN/FCS is not an issue because it's not a competing network.

  4. You don't have a built in audience in Chicago. It would get lost in everything going on there including the Blackhawks and Bulls. They don't have a college hockey audience built up in Chicago. Omaha makes more sense because of the built in audience and because it is more centrally located. Minneapolis-St Paul, Omaha and Denver make the most sense. I would throw in Kansas City as a wild card. They have a newer facility, it isn't too far from Omaha so they could attract a college hockey audience, it is within driving distance of most schools and it does a good job of hosting events. Plus it wouldn't have the competition of Chicago. KC isn't very likely but the NCHC might want to at least look at it.

Completely agree with that...there is no fanbase for college hockey in Chicago. Since I live in KC, I'd love to see it at the Sprint Center, but I really don't know if that's viable. Omaha is the nearest team, but that's still 3 hours away. We might get a better feel during the Ice Breaker tournament this fall in KC, as to how many Mav fans will travel down here. I honestly think switching between Omaha and St. Paul every year is the best option. Denver, while a great hockey town, with a fantastic college hockey fanbase, is just WAY too far...especially for WMU/Miami. Just out of curiosity, I figured out the average travel distance for NCHC schools to these locations:

    Omaha - 487 miles

    St. Paul - 512 miles

    Denver - 726 miles

  5. Sometime today, probably this afternoon sometime, I will mock these up in color. I'm curious to see what the back font looks like on these.

After a little further inspection. What really bugs me about the front is how small they had to make the "NORTH DAKOTA" because there wasn't enough room with the numbers and such wide striping. I like the style, just lessen the spacing in the stripes, maybe ditch the front number, and make the "NORTH DAKOTA" pop.

Can't wait to see your mockups....still wish they would've gone for your vintage white jersey concept - those looked fantastic.

  6. It is very doubtful that FCS would be able to get the rights. UND is not involved in arranging the rights for these games. ESPN has the rights for almost all NCAA championships. In this case they sold the rights to these few games to Fox Sports North. I doubt that they would include Fox College Sports in those rights because they are trying to control which areas have which coverage as much as possible. But I guess that anything is possible.

Great news for those of us who don't have Fox Sports North (but do have Fox College Sports)...I was just looking on my Uverse online TV guide and both West Regional games will be shown live on Fox College Sports Pacific. Go Sioux!

  7. Let me try to help you understand where I'm coming from. When the NFL's Houston Oilers moved to Tennessee they kept the Oilers name for the first two seasons. Even though they changed their geographical location they were still the Oilers. Same team. When the Tennessee Oilers became the Tennessee Titans they were no longer the same team. The Oilers no longer exist in the NFL. They were never my favorite team, but if they were I would have lost interest not when they moved to Tennessee but when they changed the name from Oilers to Titans. Once you change the name you change the entire identity of your team. A rose by any other name does not smell as sweet.

Yup...just like all those UND fans that lost interest when they changed the nickname from "Flickertails" to "Fighting Sioux"? Oh wait...

  8. One interesting thing to note: the 2012 Ice Breaker tourney is currently scheduled for the Sprint Center in downtown Kansas City...so they are attempting to get some college hockey exposure in the area. However, I have no idea how successful that's going to be - I'll be there, trying to get all my "southern" friends interested in a sport most of them know absolutely nothing about.

  9. As a Kansas City resident I would love to see KU get a hockey team...but I'm not holding my breath. Besides the obvious financial and geographic restrictions of having a D1 team, there simply isn't much interest in this region of the country for hockey. In the winter, it's all about basketball (KU/Mizzou/K State) downhere. The metro area does have a CHL team that's been here for a few years and seems to be doing well, but hockey has a history of being a bit of a passing fad in this city. But who knows? I'd love to go cheer the Sioux on as we show the Jayhawks what a real winter sport is.

  10. Any Sioux fans planning on attending this game? I live in the Kansas City area so I'll be going with some friends who are KU grads and sitting in student section, so it should be a blast. It'd be great to see some other fans sporting the green and white...

  11. I think Sweeney is just fine.

Completely agree. And yes, HD and a penalty clock would be nice, but let's not forget what we have here people. I live in the Kansas City area and can watch every single home game...you can't say that about many other programs (with maybe the exception of Minnesota). And I honestly love seeing the cheesy commercials for Rydell and all the other local businesses...it reminds me of my days living in Grand Forks and going to UND. It's also refreshing to see those weekly "Crime Stoppers" spots where the biggest crime in town was a minor robbery...a welcome change from the constant triple homicides we see on the news down here.

  12. 8700 at the game? Really? I'm in the Cities for soccer but that no problem finding someone to use my seats. Suprised by announced small crowd.

A win is a win... a buddy was texting me during game. Sounds like it was a decent effort for a young team.

The Ralph better be full and rocking tonight for the BC game - I'm astonished at the pathetic turnout on Friday. Worst crowd in 6 years for a Sioux game! C'mon people, it's hockey season, most of us have been waiting all summer for this. Had I known it was that easy to get tickets I would've made the trip up from Kansas City.

  13. We are excited because it will mean more exposure for our program...

Oh yes, I'm excited about that aspect as well, I was just concerned about the future of the FSSN broadcasts. Especially when some of the early talk was that it would just be a NCHC conference TV deal. With news that they're looking to show games from all conferences, I think my fears can probably be put to rest. Hopefully we'll get to see a lot of Sioux away games with this new deal and expose more people to some good college hockey.

  14. It would be nice for most of those games to feature NCHC teams until the conferences begins playing each other. The Big 10 teams have thier own network to be on and we can watch enough HE games on CBS College Sports.

This talk of the NCHC/VS tv deal does make me wonder what is going to happen with the FSSN and being able to watch hockey games on tv. Right now, we get to watch all the home games. I just hope that something doesn't happen that will mean less Sioux games on TV...

Agreed...I'm not sure why some Sioux fans are all excited about this Versus TV deal...we already have a good setup with Fox College Sports broadcasting all our home games live nationwide. Now, if we could maintain that, and have some games throughout the season broadcast in HD on Versus (just like a few games we have that are CBS College Sports every season), that would be the most ideal situation.
