  1. Wouldn't mind going somewhere that appreciated the fans rather than thinking they are a hassle.  The unfriendly disposition of many of the ushers and others I met, just rubbed me the wrong way.  Maybe I just ran into every bad apple, but you would think they would have staff with a friendly manner, even when they have to do things that may not sit well with the fan.  It wasn't always a matter of what the staff said, but the manner and tone in which they said it.

I can't speak for others - but I really didn't experience any issues with staff at the Target Center.  People running concessions were friendly and kept the lines moving, and we had absolutely no issues with ushers, no one hassling us about tickets, etc.

Also, as a UND alum and fan living in the Twin Cities area, I would likely not travel to Sioux Falls for a conference tournament.  One thing to remember is that for fans living in the Twin Cities always have to travel to see Sioux hockey, so it is really nice having one weekend a year where we don't.  And if for some reason UND doesn't make it to the Frozen Faceoff, you can bet attendance in Sioux Falls would be even more horrendous than it would be in Minneapolis.  Husky fans couldn't even handle driving 1 hour south this year, Duluth is 6 hours away, and even Omaha fans who would have the closest drive, are not going to show up either - they certainly didn't show up to their own outdoor game a few years ago.

  2. They weren't even enforcing the wristbands very well either - my brother and I hightailed it to the bar after Denver embarassed us, and went out the "No Re-entry" doors so we didn't get bands.  After drowning our sorrows for a bit, we returned for the Miami/SCSU game, went through the standard ticket line. When they scanned our tickets and got the "These tickets have already been scanned" line, we just said we forgot to get bands, and the ticket guy just said to go talk to some guy sitting at a table near the ticket lines, and actually let us into the arena.  We skipped the table, and just went back to our seats.

It was my first time at TC for hockey, and like someone else said, it is what it is...a 25-year old rundown basketball arena.  Good beer selection (way better than the Ralph), and we didn't eat in the arena, as there are plenty of good places to grab a bite in downtown.

  3. Just a side note for anyone who doesn't currently have the ESPN family of channels, or has recently cut cable.

SlingTV has a 7-day trial, and they carry ESPNU as well as ESPN and ESPN2.   It can likely be watched on any internet-enabled device (phone, laptop, smart TV, Roku, etc.).

I only post this as if I can't get tickets to Fargo, I plan on a 7-day trial so I can watch on my Roku at home.

Thanks for the info - just recently changed cable providers and realized their "Sports Package" that I have doesn't include ESPNU...I'll definitely be using this for the games this weekend.

  4. anyone in Denver area know where to get Premium grain belt?

Unfortunately, you're out of luck in Denver. Schell's only distributes to Minnesota, the Dakotas, Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. I stock up everytime I go visit family in Minnesota....

  5. I had an minor stutter that was happening every few seconds throughout most of the game. It wasn't bad enough to prevent me from watching but was definitely distracting. I tried viewing with multiple video quality settings on the media player (720p, 540p, 320p) and all had the same minor stutter. My laptop was hooked up directly to my modem (no wi-fi), and I've had no issues streaming both 1080p/720p HD content from other sources in the past, so I don't think it's an issue on my end. In the 2nd and 3rd periods, I had a few moments where the feed completely froze - including the penalty shot. When it worked, the sound and picture looked fantastic - but the almost constant minor stuttering made it tough to watch at times.

One other minor idea...any way we can get the media player control bar to hide when viewing in fullscreen? Seems like most online video players hide that control bar until you move you mouse to the bottom edge of the screen. Just my 2 cents...

  6. Well, that was something! Best-Sioux-Hockey-Trip-EVER!

I wasn't in Columbus in '05, so I'll second this one - Omaha is the trip to beat so far. Just seeing the massive amount of Sioux fans, and of course a sweep made it all that much better. And I'll never forget everybody grouping together by the locker room entrance chanting "This is our house", "Let's Go Sioux", and "Hobey Baker" as the team left the field. Simply awesome. If you haven't seen it, the Omaha newspaper has a great shot of this in their Battles on Ice slideshow.

  7. Yep - making the easy drive up from Kansas City, should be a fun weekend. I'm bringing the girlfriend with too, it'll be her first Sioux hockey game(s) and she doesn't seem to understand how many of our fans will be there.

  8. Guys its not even close, its Lucia

And you try and be a coach that had to disaster that Brew left. If Kill wins 10 games next year no one will be whining about a cancelled series with the Tar Holes. Right now he has bigger issues to deal with with unforunately have nothing to do with Michigan State this week, but having to do with a headcase walk-on

Agreed - Lucia wins this one. Killing off a rivalry that both fanbases enjoy is just sad, especially when there seems to be no actual good reason for it. Down here in the Kansas City area, the same thing happened with Kansas and Missouri this year - Missouri moved to the SEC and now Bill Self and KU refuse to schedule them. That basketball rivalry is one of the biggest in the nation and those games are very similar in atmosphere to the UND/MN hockey series.

  9. Went to the KU/UND game last season in Lawrence and, as you know, KU DOES have atmosphere, and a lot of it. I can see where it would be very intimidating for visiting teams to play there, as evidenced by the fact that KU seldom loses at home.

I was there as well - very impressive atmosphere and fan support especially for a non conference game during the holiday break. The student section was fun to see too, with their "Need Skates?" and "UND = Hockey" signs. I'm not expecting the same sort of atmosphere in Manhattan, but it's still a well-known program with a very loyal fanbase. And speaking of fanbases, hoping to see some other kelly green in that crowd!

  10. I believe KSU has its first game tonight against Div. II Washburn, if you want to scope the interwebs for how they look (albeit over an overly matched opponent).

Correct, they'll play D2 Washburn (which will be televised on Fox Sports Midwest) and D2 Emporia State before UND comes to Manhattan. I'll be at the game - should be fun to see what they can do against the Wildcats.

  11. I'd like to also say that I've have been watching all the past Hockey games on Fox College Sports, and Saturdays game had a poorer quality picture. I could not figure out who the players were due to the inability to read the numbers on the shirts. My TV's HD picture is extremly crisp so that's not the issue (yes, I know this isn't broadcast in HD).

So who ever came up with the connection to FCS for the poor quality may have it right

I'd second that - watched plenty of hockey games on FCS on my HDTV in the past, and had never seen picture quality that bad. Audio sync was off at times during the pregame and intermissions as well.

  12. All home men's hockey games will indeed be broadcast on Fox College Sports this year.

Thanks, Jayson - I know you've been answering a lot of these questions in the past few months. I just needed to double check since I couldn't find the games listed anywhere. Thanks again, and we do appreciate all your hard work!

  13. Does anybody have any info on why none of the men's hockey home games aren't listed in the FCS schedule for October? I was planning on DVR'ing the exhibition game next Saturday and couldn't find the game on my guide. So, I went to the FCS website to investigate and couldn't find a single home game listed on any of their channels (Atlantic, Central, or Pacific). Gophers hockey is listed, and UND Sports Extra is as well...but no actual UND games. It sounded like everything was set with FCS broadcasting games again this year, but I'm very confused as to why they wouldn't list the games on their schedule...

  14. Just an FYI for anyone interested in going to the K-State game in early November...there's about 40 tickets available on stubhub right now...and most are pretty affordable. They're all pretty much on the baselines, but I got tickets 11 rows back for $15 a pop - not too shabby.
