  1. Sorry to inform you gfhockey but the people who bought it were good people and invested a lot of money into Dave's BULLSh!T and they pretty much stopped funding it until they could get Dave out. The thing many people don't know is that Dave was never the actual owner, only a manager. One of the MAJOR investers was a guy from the cities who has bailed out Denny Hecker and when he found out the way Dave was running it he pulled out of it and left the rest of the investors high and dry. Another thing was that Whiteys was going downhill for a long time, it has never been the same since the flood. What is interesting is the people who say they will miss it but how often did they go down there? I'm not blaming the people of EGF or GF but it is just in a bad location with everything moving away from the river, no one wants to travel to downtown GF/EGF just to eat anymore.

The downtown area is very much alive right now. Especially in East Grand Forks. The Multi-plex theatre has all kinds of people heading down there for dinner and a movie. With the lack of parking down there, they need to get there early just for a spot, so dining is a bonus.

Maybe if they hadn't overhauled the menu time after time in recent years they could have competed. Or they could have properly staffed the place. I was in there around thanksgiving, very inappropriate behavior from the staff. Blue Moose, Applebees, Mama Maria's, Mike's Pizza, and the Boardwalk are all doing very well in that area, so that isn't the problem.

I don't know these people, but if they didn't like this Dave guy managing, to the point that they pulled out of the investment, why didn't they just lose this Dave guy?

  2. all alone? theyre tied with west fargo and 1 point ahead of Grafton...i wouldn't call that all alone...the top 5 teams are all close...anybody can beat anybody right now...im liking this season

Red River has played fewer game, so yes, all alone. They should end up with the #1 seed with more opportunities to get points in the last week of the season than the other top EDC teams.

  3. Here's a tip:

Subtract two minutes from what's on the clock when the puck drops for the beginning of the power play, and you will usually have a good idea when the Power Play is going to end. It's a little complicated when there are offsetting penalties, but that should work most of the time.

    I know it's really complicated.

Ususally too busy trying to figure out what the hell the ref called.

Maybe you could set me up an equation to figure out that whole penalty thing...

  4. Just like it costs money to have a power play clock on the tv?? :silly:

UND athetic department spends millions. They have money for High Definition.

Bemidji State broadcasts in high definition and so do small town (U of Sioux Falls) womens basketball games in South Dakota on the Midcontinent Sports Channel.

It really is a disgrace. Especially not having a Power Play Clock.

The power play clock drives me nuts. If they are taking donations to make this happen, I'd like to know about it.

  5. Tough to quantify, but living in Fargo I'll tell you this...I know lots of SU Bison fans that follow and are fans of UND hockey. Tell me one UND grad/supporter that is a fan of any SU athletic team?

From a fan following, NDSU FB has a big statewide fan base. UND hockey has a big statewide fan base as well. The difference IMO is that UND hockey nationwide fan support is greater than NDSU FB.

    That is very well said.

Jodcon touched on this as well, but the fact that we don't have pro sports opens it up to college athletics to be the most followed within a state. Most often in states that dont have a major professional franchise, major college football becomes the focus of most of the attention (Alabama Crimson Tide, Oklahoma Sooners, West Virginia Mountaineers). Some turn to basketball (Vermont Catamounts, UNLV Running Rebels, UConn Huskies). I think the only other state that may be most boastful about their hockey team may be Maine about those darn Black Bears.

  6. No doubt. I hope he can make a full recovery and put up his best effort at a pro career. I remember thinking when he was a sophomore that he was a pretty tight pile of bricks between the pipes.

Thought you were heading in another direction for a second. ;)

  7. Kinda torn on Eids getting the start. Part of me thinks stick with the hot hand, keep Aaron sharp going into the Gopher series.

I too am torn. I agree about keeping Dell sharp, but it only one maroon and gold clad NumbSkull to crash the net in a dirty play, to leave us with Eidsness for the rest of the year. This is a good opportunity to get some more confidence for him.

  8. its basic risk assessment. we are writing a novel here. its a simple, "i'll be home in twenty" or "on my way". If theres no one around, yes, I'm texting. Whats next? No walking and chewing gum at the same time?

  9. If I remember correctly, Jeff didn't even finish with Central High School. I thought he was in Fargo his senior year of high school, playing for the Ice Sharks.

I believe that is true. I know he wasn't around for teh senior season, but do not recall where he went. This sounds correct.

  10. if someone cannot text and drive safely, they probably shouldn't be behind the wheel in the first place. I text and drive from time to time. I don't do it in bumper to bumper traffic. I don't do it as I pass through unmarked intersections. I absolutely don't do so with kids in the car.If i am on I-29 with nobody around, then i am fine with deterring my eves for a couple seconds. The one thing that the law has changed is that when I'm texting at the stoplight, I am looking around to see who is watching, hopefully not an officer...

  11. This will be my first time down in st.paul if i get everythign squared away. So please help me if i have anything mistakin.

    1. ticket--> buy them right now off of excel energy center.com and then in february they send u the packages of where u sit

    2. Hotel--> Holiday in? i heard thats where more sioux fans hang out and has the open bar

what else shoudl i need to plan for?

The open bar is down at the Embassy which is near Alary's. There are also many Sioux fans that stay there. I've done both. Both are pricey, however. Its an expensive area (location, location, location). As long as the sioux win, what else is there?

I heard Kangas already bought tickets. I guess he doesn't want to miss it two years in a row.

  12. I think student participation in most University activities is down. Across the USA volunteer work is down as is membership in service organizations. I am not sure what the hell Americans do anymore. Life is not all about video games and laptops. Our sense of "communitiy" is in decline. I suspect the attendance at college athletic events is a symptom of this.

    oh, the irony!

  13. As for qb's who can't complete passes downfield, these are simple passes that will prevent defense from putting 7 or 8 people in the box to stop the run.

So who is to blame for the QBs having gotten away from it if its still there? The QBs themselves or the coaches for not emphasizing it enough?

  14. I like to see the Irish come to town. I too am a little concerned about Forbort not dressing, as I am a fan of the way he plays.

Its going to be a well played game. I think Cichy will have a big night tonight in a sioux victory. 4-1 Sioux!

    Lets Go Sioux!
