  1. Yes. 4 home conference games, 4 away conference games, 2 OOC games against FCS teams (preferably at home), and an away game at an FBS school that we will get big revenue from. That should be our formula for scheduling every year.

Faison should call Maturi and convince him to replace New Hampshire next Sept 8 with UND. Not sure how that would work financially for UND or the Gophers, but it would be fun. NH is not a natural rival at all for UM. This is spot UND probably could have had had we gotten rid of the nickname sooner.

  2. I notice you guys are awfully quiet tonight.

"God's team" (ironic considering the religious nuts on your team) beat bucky 4-1 tonight.

Much better than your squad managed in Madison.

Thoughts? I'll hang up and listen.

I watched only a portion of the game as I prefer watching major college FB to Big 10 hockey, but the few minutes I watched I saw some horribly bad officiating that really hurt the Badgers. It is a long season folks. Watch out for Tech!!

  3. Actually, the head coach has total control over the program. He hires the assistants, approves the schemes run, oversees recruiting of all players, manages the game, and imparts an overall philosophy and attitude on the team. To say the coach does only one thing is totally incorrect. True, he can't suit up, but he controls who does. If a team doesn't have a division I quarterback, that's on the head coach, if players underperform - well the head coach brought them in, if the team can't get fired up - head coach again. Another way of saying this team is just a quarterback away (It would help, but there are other issues) is "our coaches didn't recruit anyone who could be an outstanding quarterback at this level. Like it or not it is all on Muss.

Amen, the bottom line is the recruiting of quality QB's or lack of AND every other position is on the back of the Head coach.

  4. I'm not in a position to make that call. But regardless of the reason, I'm a bit troubled that we would struggle so much to beat a soon-to-be NSIC team, particularly considering what we used to routinely do to Winona State (the NSIC's best program prior to the breakup of the NCC).

Yes, we destroyed Winona a couple times in a row. If they are the measuring stick for the NSIC, which has had the National champ the last few years, we, UND are in trouble. I am seriously confused, whether the Sioux are any good or any bad. NDSU is not as good as they think and Minnesota is not as bad as people think. I love college FB, but I think it has become the NFL incognito. To MONEY oriented. I am not a Muss fan, but I think college FB overall is a mess. There are the elite programs in D1 and everybody else. Everybody else is just a mess. The NCAA and MONEY have screwed up what was a great pastime. UND should just continue to get better or as good as they can be. The NSIC is getting better athletes as a result of the Dakota 4 moving up. The difference in quality remains subject to question though. Would the UMD teams of the last few years match up against UND and NDSU?

  5. 15-13...are you kidding me!?! How are we to beat 2 GWFC teams now after beating DII SF by TWO!!!! And to come back to win it is even more sad. This team should be ashamed and Muss should be back on the hot seat. If he can't fire up his team he is worthless.

UCD is beating Poly 21-7! Nearing the half.

    1. NDSU just got a verbal tonight from a back from Milwaukee (Marcus Horne). He had offers from all but 2 of the MAC teams and was starting to get strong interest from several Big Ten schools. Had 3 Preferred walk on offers from the Big Ten. He was apparently at the UNI game this weekend and verballed right after the game. I saw several recruits on the field before the game. If a recruit visits the Fargodome on a game day and the Alerus on a game day, which do you suppose he will be more impressed with?

1 Why are you on here?

2 The MAC is a joke, even NDSU beats them and so does lowly Minnesota, UND came close with holdover DII players.

3 Lots of walk ons in the Big 10, most end up as ball boys.

4 What else is there to do in Fargo on game day?

I respect the new No. 1 ranking for the Bison and they are a good team, but for everyone's sake, this is not the most important thing going on in the world. Find another thing to occupy your time. Maybe the barn needs a good cleaning.

  6. Man wish we had a QB that could make a throw like UNC 2nd td

Agree! Whomever has recruited the last several upperclassmen QB's for UND was hallucinating. Comes and Bradley, time will tell, but with even decent/avg QB play this Sioux team would be 5-1 and routing UNC. Hope for a win today, but man, this is frustrating to watch. Kid from DL may start next year unless Comes or Bradley show something better than they have so far.

  7. This is a big early season series for this squad. They appear, both on paper and on the ice, to have plenty of talent. Their record is so-so and they have a big rivalry weekend next week on the horizon. St. Clown is a big rival, and will be tough and ready for their first conference series.

The Sioux need to stop pussyfooting around and take command early. Skate fast. Hit hard. Be smart. Block the puck. Score goals. Kick ass. For 120 minutes.

I thought that was the game plan every weekend. Sometimes happens, sometimes not.

  8. A big win against a team who hasn't won a game?

I guess that Bison game against the powerhouse Gophers this year was not a "big" game then either, huh? They would likely be in the bottom half of the MVFC or the BSC were they playing at the FCS level.

  9. So, Huntsville is Gonesville.

    http://www.al.com/sp...vision_i_1.html

Sad to see an already small community lose one of its own.

The Huntsville/Decatur area of Alabama is not a small community. In fact it is much larger than the GF and Fargo areas combined and probably approaches the size of Madison, Wi. or Omaha, Ne. It has a very high average income level and has a broad range of industries and technical schools. The NCHA would have been wise to pick up UAH instead of WMU or SCSU for exposure in the South. UAH has a very good engineering program and is supported strongly by NASA, local facilities of Fortune 500 companies, and the local community. It has great recreational opportunities on the Tennessee River and is in close proximity to Atlanta, Birmingham and Nashville. Travel to Huntsville would have been no more difficult than getting to WMU or South Bend. The NCHA really missed the boat in not looking at UAH as a member and an attractive location to visit.

  10. The Repubs keep talking about how this is the greatest country ever. Well, even in Italy the trains run on time. The US is falling way behind, because we are not willing to invest in infrastructure. God help us if the Repubs get their way. We will have limos on the freeway for them and the rest of us will sit home and watch reruns of how it used to be. We need to spend more money on public transport and get away from everyone driving themselves. Europe has its problems, but transportation is not one of them. I can get around Europe less exensively and more quickly than the US without owning a car and trying to find a place to park.

  11. Hey, there is a pattern here. It is not freshman vs freshman. It is style vs style. Hak cannot adjust to the game. He has played BC enough to know what they will bring to the party. It is the same format that we have seen the last 5 games. Positional hockey, crisp passing, situational awareness. Hak just has not got it. He is a good coach, he just cannot adapt to playing this type of team. Did you watch the BC passing? Reminds me of the days the USSR took apart the US and others in the Olympics. BC has talent, UND has talent, but UND continues to rely on intimidation to win the game. Crisp passes and positional play have beaten UND every time against BC. Duh? How long do we not learn to handle this?

  12. Watching this game is like watching the last 4 games against BC. Sioux style is brute force, BC is finesse. BC has out manuevered and out passed the Sioux every time they have met. Sioux will never match up well against this style of passing and position play. Hak has not learned a thing the last 5 years. He is still a good and winning coach, but his style will not bring home a NCAA winner. York has shown him up again. I know I will catch hell about this comment, but you cannot argue with results.

  13. I went to the game on Thursday and regularly tail gate...The game was crap, the environment was terrible, and the product on the field was laughable...Needless to say, it will take alot more improvement for the Football team to represent the Fighting Sioux...Maybe its a blessing the name goes away as the Football team probably doesn't deserve to use it anymore with the product they put on the field. Lastly, I go to the hockey games and that is a real, professional product displayed night in and night out...The football game was a hyped version of what a high school puts out for production value...a screaming chick interviewing people in the stands and she couldn't even say Season Ticket holder at the delivery point of her interview. Additionally, the crowd was dead for most of the game and again the cool stuff they try to do with the video screens is no better than a monster truck show. Try getting some training from the folks at the Engelstad and maybe the tickets are worth the free price I paid since they were being handed out by many at the tailgate event....God help us when we actually play D-I talent on a regular basis.

I guess the football fans need to drink a lot more before and during the game, to make it exciting, eh?

  14. Don't forget that Sac State beat Oregon State and Weber State gave up a late touchdown (22 seconds left) to lose to Wyoming by 3.

Not to mention that nemisis; the NAIA schools. Lindenwood beat UNC in Greeley. LIndenwood and Sioux Falls have been the cream of the NAIA playoffs in recent years. Maybe they are not such bad teams, eh? Let's see how strong UNC is this year before any final judgement, but UND will play them and it could be interesting.

  15. Was at Thursday's game, and I have to say, the game experience has really deteriorated from the last game I was at two years ago. (Usually average a game a year as well as a hockey and basketball game at home). It's not that the game wasn't done professionally by the athletic department - it was. The fan base is just so deflated - no anticipation of excitement. It's more like the fans are just dreading that the worst can happen.

Sioux teams of the past always seemed to execute every single part of the game. The machine-like precision was part of the beauty of Sioux football. Perhaps it was just first game jitters, but coaches have a long ways to go to evolve this team into machine-like behavior..

It is called CONFIDENCE! The coach instills it. The fans embrace it. The team executes it. UND has it on the ice and on the VB court and maybe a few other places. Losing to SFU and playing a patsy schedule does NOT bring it back. You must win against perceived inferior competitors. You must pull an upset against a perceived superior opponent, i.e. Minnesota. You must win games you are not expected to win! NDSU has done that, that is why they can swagger. UND must continue to improve. They must continue to play UP. They must continue to play above their perceived ability. The program is getting there. BUT, do not accept beating lesser programs, do not even schedule them. Strive for beating teams that you should not beat. End of sermon. Is Muss the answer, I am very skeptical.

  16. So after our 16-0 win over Drake...lets turn to our next opponent FBS Idaho. Last year we lost 45-0. After seeing our defense stop drake from scoring in the redzone twice and seeing our offense not turnover the ball whats our chances to get our first FBS win?

    + no turnovers

    + stop the pass

    + penalties

I think these 3 are key for us to win the game.

    Final score 35-31 UND!!!

Now way UND wins if the score gets this high. UND must keep the score low with defense and score when opportunities arise. UND offense is not prolific enough. Need to keep it to something like 17-14 etc. and hope for the best by keeping the ball on offense and away from Idaho. Still I predict a loss of 21-16.

  17. I think Bradley looks very promising, like others have mentioned I saw a few things that need work but he puts the ball on the money which UND has struggled with the past several seasons. My biggest disappointment is in a couple of upper classman WR that have never been consistent catching the ball but still being put on the field in front of some young talented guys that haven't really had a look. I know what they can do, now it's time to move on to see if another guy is better.

I agree, hope Bradley stays healthy. Also agree about upper class WR's that appear to have hands of stone. For xxxxx's sake this is now D1 FB. If you cannot catch a pass when you are wide open then you do not belong on the field and maybe the team. Comment earlier about the FSSN broadcasters, did not realize it until I read it. Sweeney is like taking a sleeping pill. Could not figure out why I kept nodding off. Also, when are they going to get some HD cameras in GF? Watching this stuff on an HD TV is like watching the sun come up in a fog. Overall I was ok with the team play. Boring conservative offense, but maybe a new QB and system dictates that in the first game. I predicted a 14-17 pt margin, but certainly expected the Sioux to score at least 3 TD's. Defense is good, maybe above average for FCS, but the Offense needs to score 21 or more per game at this level. Will miss the next 3 games due to OUS travel. Go Sioux! Hope you are 4-0 when I return.

  18. I would much rather WMU to BGSU than St. Cloud. In fact I wouldn't mind just being a 6 team conference if ND doesn't join, the OOC schedule could be packed with HE and B10 as well as a few old WCHA rivals and would make for an exciting season.

To be perfectly honest as an academic institution with a large fan following in a mid major metro area with high incomes etc. the inclusion of Alabama Huntsville to the NCHA would be far superior to SCSU and many of the other proposed schools. Huntsville is a tech center, an industrial center and a population boomer. I vote for adding them and Air Force if the F%^&*ing Irish decide not to join!
