  1. Trying to get on the Big Sky internet TV broadcast of MSU vs UNC. Can log on, select program, got thru my security net, but the video does not come up. Getting ready for tonight UND vs Sacramento. Any suggestions on what I need to do? Thanks in advance.

  2. Well. Who is backing up Hendrickson for next 2 or 3 games?

Good question that I am sure someone will answer. Who is the dumber QB, Joey Bradley for leaving or Braden Hanson for trying to throw a block against a team you are going to pummel when you are short on QB's anyway? Muss certainly must have told Hanson not to do anything stupid out there, man what a situation to start the season with.

  3. Seems like one the biggest obstacles (other than funding) for building an on campus football stadium is parking. The new parking garage across the street is big, but not big enough for 25,000 plus people. I'm guessing we would have to use the med school parking lot as well as the REA if this were to happen. I could be wrong but it looks as though the current parking lot by the Memorial will be turned into (hypothetically) a soccer field/ track.

Maybe I am not seeing something in this rendering, but it appears that the IPF takes away all available space on the East side for any future stadium seating. Unless there is some plan to use the West structure of the IPF for support of stands there it just does not seem feasible. If there are no new stands on the East then the N endzone and existing West stands need to be expanded or replaced and I am not sure that is a very attractive option either. I know this is 10 years away perhaps, but it seems that the vision is just not very practical when it comes to a plan for future FB stadium. I do not like the sight lines at the Alerus except between the 20's. I liked the info we had about 5 years ago even though I thought it overly ambitious. I probably will never see it in person, but would like to have a "dream stadium plan" of 25,000 to look forward to for UND someday.

  4. If people are petty enough to boycott UND athletics because they don't like Grand Forks Red River High School athletics, then we don't need them. I am a Central alum (Class of 1993) and I couldn't care less about this. Like I have said before, if we start ruling out nicknames because someone else is using them, then we might as well stop brainstorming.

AMEN! My whole family and I went to Central and could care less about Central (or Red River). Our family lived in GF for 70+ years, owned businesses and identified then and now far more strongly and loyally to UND even though we only had 2 UND grads. Roughriders is a great option, there may be others. But, I would not worry about any repurcussions should that be the one that is chosen. HS was a small blip on my life's journey that pales in comparison to my experiences and loyalty to UND.

  5. Faison has done a great job for UND and this is welled deserved. I think we take for granted that he took over a department that was a complete mess by the previous AD and has turned it completely around UND is in spots that seperate us from the other Dakota schools. The guys has positioned UND very well in the short time he has been here.

I agree that in general he has done an excellent job in finding coaches, scheduling, gaining conference affiliations etc. I do not know if it is his job or not, but marketing the programs and selling the upgrading and additions of facilities etc. has not been adequate in my opinion. Other than the donated REA and Betty, UND's facilities are no better than a DII or DIII school. I know these things are very expensive, but if I had an issue to dwell on with him, and again it may not be his issue to deal with, it is the facilities and the program marketing that are not what I would expect to see at this level.

  6. Actually I know a lot about the world out there. The H1B visa is highly abused by corporate America. Engineers are the people who can not do simple math. Or design machines that are a nightmare to work on. Or build bridges (I-35) that fall down. Before you shoot off your mouth how about you research abuse of the H1B visa first.

Really? You sound like an unemployed, frustrated person who majored in an area that is unemployable in today's economy. I do not need to research anything. I lived the employment of STEM people for 40 years. You bring the tools, you get and keep the job. Amen. Americans for the most part are not interested in STEM. This will be the downfall of the country over the next 20 years. Go ahead, play your video games.man!

  7. Right on the mark there. Furthermore, corporations will hire foreigners for a lot less money than an American citizen. How the visa is abused in themedical profession is even more sickening.

You know very little about the world out there my friend. Corporations hire the best talent they can find at the same wages. Truth is Americans have gotten lazy and do not want to invest the time and effort to get a degree in STEM or Medicine and therefore the only options are to hire foreign nationals who have the appropriate education. After 40 years in corporate America as an engineering manager and as someone who has two family members who are doctors I can tell you this is the fact. American kids need to cut back on pop culture and sports and focus on a technical education and a career that will be productive or the good old US will continue to be in serious trouble competing in this world.

  8. I will buy this every year that Gene Taylor is at NDSU. I am sure he is still looking for his pen to sign that contract that Brain Faison sent a couple months ago.

I cannot resist posting anytime there is a reference to the egotist Taylor, Navy pride I guess. His biggest nightmare is UND, period. He can beat UM, SIU, UNI, CMU, KU etc. But, he cannot escape the fact that UND has over time been the thorn in NDSU's side. Avoiding playing in FB, the BIG sport at NDSU, has been his big carrot. Losing to UND would detract from all the success that NDSU has had since moving to D1. If I were he, I would not play UND either, little to gain and everything to lose. But, the Bison fans have moved on, you can just see that on this board!

  9. no excuse to pay a D-I women's hockey coach more than a D-I football coach.

Generally you would be correct, however, as you have said yourself, the jury is still out on Mussman. Barely a 500 record with some losses and close victories that are questionable. Showing lots of upside, but the next couple of years will tell. Idalski turned a program around, has only two staff members vs Mussman's 7-8, made the NCAA tourney, finished in 3rd place in the WCHA, and beat several of the top teams in the country. FB is a bigger sport, no doubt, but results need to be there too.

One more thing, don't you have anything else to do? You seem to spend your life on here.

  10. Big difference between characterized as a golden goose and a money pit.

And envy is the highest form of flattery. They and a lot of other schools wish they had a D1 program like our W Hockey program. I only wish our softball progam, track and field, golf, and others can emulate or surpass those at NDSU where they have had pretty solid success.

  11. Agree...Roughriders to me has always been the obvious and logical choice.

As unfortunate as it is for RR HS, I agree that this is the most natural name for UND teams. There may be some confusion initially among the local press etc., but Roughriders would be a good nationwide moniker. As a Central grad I do not have the attachment to RR HS and hence not the concern, but I think UND and RR can coexist with the same name.

  12. Mussmans seat was as hot as Bohls was after going 3-8 he was coaching for his job last year. If he does poorly this year I bet he'd get one more year

Personally so far, even as a UND supporter I have been more impressed with Bohl than Mussman. However, if Bohl was such a great coach he would be entertaining offers from FBS schools. The next 5 years, head to head, not necessarily on the field, will be interesting. If Bohl is truly a great coach he will repeat at least once as FCS champ and move on to bigger things. I understand he has a few skeletons, but so do a lot of FBS coaches. If Muss is a great coach UND will be at or near the top of FCS rankings and perhaps pull an upset or two ala NDSU. It is a great time for ND college football. I cannot wait to see how the next 5 years play out. It is gonna be FUN!!!

  13. Thats great for UND that they lead the nation in blocked FG's. Does that necessarily mean that they are going to do the same this upcoming season? Keep in mind, UND played USF, some Montana school, Drake, and another small school or two. Several games against significantly lesser competition.

To assume blocked field goals are going to happen is a terrible, terrible way of planning. Blocked FG's are a bonus. When going into a game, you do not say, "well, if the other team goes for a field goal, we will block it." No, a blocked field goal is a best case scenario. Not something to count on.

Teams like Virginia Tech like to brag about their special teams, and even they don't count on blocked field goals. If you think that blocked field goals are going to be something to count on, then more than likely, you are going to be sadly mistaken. Other teams pick up on stuff like that. Similar to how I do not expect Marcus Williams to pick off as many passes as he did last year, because teams figure out strengths, and will counter it. It does not take a genius to figure that out. Maybe UND will lead the nation in blocks, they could also very easily have 0 by the end of the year. NDSU blocked a few punts and field goals I believe in 2010. I think we maybe got a punt this year, and that I'm not even sure of.

Like I said, counting on your field goal blocking team to win games is just asking to get beat. If that is the Ace up UND's sleeve, I feel really bad for UND football this year. Now solid defense, and adequate offense can be counted on, special teams blocks can't. Feel free to count on blocked punts. If that is what you are counting on to win you games you are going to have a fun time watching UND have a very mediocre year.

I think you got sucked in on that one 7.

  14. I could see the WCHA holding their tournament in Green Bay.

Or perhaps Milwaukee, although that is not a hockey hotbed. Both are more central to the combined league members from Michigan and Minnesota. Just a note, Lucia says the U of M will continue to play the other Minnesota schools regularly and a yearly series with BC. With 20 Big 10 games, 2 with BC, and perhaps 8 or more against the Minnesota schools, there may not be much opportunity left for UND to play the Gophers. Is this planned?

  15. The Target Center isn't the best hockey arena by any means, but I think it makes sense to have it there over anywhere else (at least during the years the B10 is at the X). Omaha wouldn't be a bad place, but you can't tell me that you will draw more fans in Omaha than in Minneapolis.

Where will the remnants of the WCHA hold their postseason tourney? The twin cities is a natural place for them to hold a tourney too. Facilities may be too large, but it is a central location for them. Tech, Bemidji, Mankato, UAA, who else is in there now? Where will the CCHA go also, or will they combine with the WCHA. This may all have been discussed earlier, but I missed it. Can any one update me?

  16. There are more ways to "pay" for a decision than financial ones. From everything I heard about it, USD has athletic training-doctor issues that were brought about by having poor vision when signing the contract. Sanford did not provide the support they were supposed to and they did not allow any competitors to help out. UND knew of this and tried to take care of it in the negotiations but it must not have worked out. There were probably other issues, don't know.

The University of Minnesota backed out of a deal with Sanford when they built TCF stadium for some unpublished reason too. I forget the amount of money, but it was for naming rights on the stadium among other things and was substantial. Obviously they felt the best thing to do was not jump in bed with Mr. Sanford.

  17. One? Have to be the worst top 6 seniors in D1 BB in the country. Take all 6 schollies away and start over. If they have 5 or more schollies for next year they better find some new talent to support this years sophs. Not optimistic about this program long term.

Sorry, the management of this program is really really frustrating to me. Cannot understand Jones approach.

  18. It also doesn't help when we don't have any scholarships available unless we take away one of the seniors right? How about we go get that Tyus Jones? Haha he is going to be a stud though.

  19. I think Mussman's resume as OC proves that he prefers to chuck it around. The cupboard has just been a little bare talent-wise at some key skill positions since Freund and Trenbeath graduated.

Bamba was exciting, but by all accounts was a basket-case. Other than Hardin in 2010, there hasn't been real impressive play at the QB or WR position since 2008.

Speaking of Bamba, did he surface anywhere interesting and did he garner any serious Pro attention or is he washing dishes in Quebec somewhere?

  20. Way back in the day when Wayne Nelson used to post on his blog, he stated at the time of the announcement of the Sioux-Griz games that Montana's buyout was $100,000.

I'd say that under the right circumstances, UM could afford to pay that if they chose to, since any home game for them generates around $600,000 gross.

Depends on who they could get in to Missoula.

Right now the AD at Missoula has more problems than buying out the UND game.
