  1. With this in mind, what would be some cool restraunts and bars to place downtown? What is GF missing?

I for one think that GF needs an authentic Italian restraunt. There is that small place on South Washington but it is not a sit down and enjoy wine place. (Food is very good though).

    What do you think?

  2. i think he has won every siouxperswing golf tourney i have played in..good golfer ;)

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

If I remember right he won the Birchmont one year.

I am really going out on a limb but I think his brother may have won the Pine to Palm too. Could be wrong on that one though.

  3. That is going to start happening. The city council has been discussing it at their meetings for the last couple of months.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Has there been any articles about this in the Herald, or elsewhere?

  4. That probably isn't what the city wants though.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

You would think the city would want it. Almost any big city has a booming downtown area. Not saying GF is going to be the next Minneapolis, but city gov't would want a place where a lot of people can congregate, on the weekends especially, and have dinner, drinks, enjoy the nice summer months, etc. Look what happens when they have that Art Fair in downtown or the weekly markets. Brings tons of people. I think if GF invested some money into the downtown area, the people would follow. Bringing more money to business and to GF in general.

P.S. The going out to eat scene is brutal in GF because there is no atmosphere. Not talking the building itself, but everything around it. If anyone has been to Kansas City and been to the Plaza area, they will tell you how beautiful it is and how fun it is because there are tons of bars, restaraunts, and stores. Which produces tons of people. There is no reason why GF can't have a mini Plaza area.

  5. This is kind of old but do you think if the city of Grand Forks were to allow developers build condos, to own and rent, it would help pump life back into the downtown area? This was discussed in the city council last summer but did not hear anything further on it.

The reason why I bring this up now is because I saw that another business closed downtown. Granted it was a used bookstore but still another business.

My personal opinion is that it would be a great idea. More people downtown equals more money. Look at what EGF has done with their boardwalk area. Why can't Grand Forks do the same?

    Just a random Friday thought.

  6. It would be tough to count if you wanted to count all sports.  You would probably just look at scholarships.  Which school produced the most scholarship athletes.  Let's just start a little list here between RR and Central.  If someone is knowledgable about FSH they could help too.

I'll start with guys I know and only from Basketball, Hockey, football and baseball and only D-I.  There are more but these are the for sures.

    RR:

    Grant Potulny

    Tim Skarp

    Casavan

    Godfread

    Marsden

    Schneider

    Ziggy

    Ryan Potulny

    Irmen

    GFC:

    O'Connell

    Brooks

    Bina

Lamereaux  however the hell you spell it

And I'm drawing a blank  I know there are a bunch of hockey players from Central but I'm hungover and can't think right now.  Someone please help.  Just copy my list and add to it.  Can't really think of more non-hockey types from GFC though?  Help

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Add the Panzers, Gasparini to Central

    Shane McMenamy to RRHS

    Andy Doeden to Fargo South

  7. I have never said RR didn't have plenty of talented kids, but you are talking about a lot of hockey players which is a rich kid sport and gets a lot more focus and attention is Grand Forks.
  8. Well, responding to the use of Dakota, we'll just call our school the University of North.

Also, why don't we just charge the Big Sioux Truckstop $1 a year to place all those thousands of Sioux logo designs in the Ralph.  We'll just call it "advertising" for the Big Sioux Truck Stop!  ;)

I miss their biscuits and gravy at 3:00 am. I was never one for the gravy fries, although it was a fan favorite.

  9. Why is the use of American Indian people as mascots and symbols offensive?

The continued use of American Indian people as mascots, logos, and symbols is wrong. It denies a race of people the basic right of respect. By tolerating the use of demeaning stereotypes, we desensitize and objectify people. When using a race of people as nothing more than mascots and symbols, we are teaching the next generation of non-Indian children that it is okay to participate in culturally abusive behavior.

    GrahamKracker,

Where is the stereotype in UND using this name? How is your basic right of respect being denied? Please explain.

I believe that UND choosing to use the name "fighting sioux" goes far beyond using it "for nothing more than mascots and symbols" IMO, if our nickname was all about those things, why change the Flickertails name? Please explain.

Also, I could not find anything on that website that explaining the Sioux Falls, etc question I asked above. Could you please explain these things to me. Thanks.

Again, no disrespect. I am simply trying to see your viewpoint and that website does not answer my questions.

    Graham Kracker,

Since you haven't responded to any of my questions, and you have posted elsewhere in the forums, should I assume you don't have the answers to my questions? Or perhaps don't want to answer?

It makes it hard to find you credible when you do not respond to simple questions.

  11. Again.....I'm not going to answer that over and over and over....go check out www.UND.edu/org/bridges, it will clear things up for you, but thanks for asking. I don't agree with everything that is said there, but they do have many many valid points pertaining this issue. Thanks for asking though. It would be quicker to do it this way rather than typing for the next couple hours.

  12. Yeah, he was a really hard worker.  That other kid that worked out there though basically ran the show.  Not Ziggy, but that other kid.  Not sure what happened to him, but man did he do a great job!  He was a great athlete too.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Great Athlete? If you count playing basketball in his driveway an athletic event. I heard that guy is a loser and has no friends. Why else would he work at a dump like Kraft?

  13. GrahamKracker,

I would like to get a better perspective of this. Obviously you don't like the UND nickname being "Fighting Sioux". What about the state of North & South "Dakota." or "Sioux" City or "Sioux" Falls? Are you against the naming of those states/towns?

If so, what is it about the university's nickname (and the states/towns) that makes you think it should change? What disrespect does UND (& states/towns) having this nickname bring to you and your people?

If you are not against the states/towns having these names, why is it just the University that you have a problem with?

Before you answer, let me make this clear I am not trying to be a jerk about this and please don't take me asking the questions the wrong way. I am simple trying to understand your viewpoint.
